You can buy prints of her work or originals of her grand daughters oils and watercolors; they now continue to keep the business open. Judith Mackey captured the essence of the tall grass prairie that Chase County embodies and her grand daughters work does also. Originals of Jessica and Shawna Bell are remarkable priced around $100 and prints of Judith are half that price. The gallery is like walking into an old western hotel lobby. A great place to see or purchase some original art in a quaint small town on the prairie.

Wonderful options at reasonable prices. The Wrap It Up holiday event is always a delight. The atmosphere is nice but not stuffy. Ok, I'm biased on the theater part -- I've seen numerous shows, been in some productions, and my kiddo participated in youth theater for years. And, I've NEVER been disappointed. The MAC goes for both "traditional" theater as well as cutting-edge productions. The directors work with local talent to help them grow into the best artists they can be at that moment in time. I'm continually impressed by the high quality of performances. Especially when I remember that the cast and crews are volunteers! I'm saddened to read James M's experience and I hope he talked with the MAC management about what happened. I found from personal experience the staff to be inclusive and respectful, and to be very receptive when there's a problem. My two cents -- great community art center!

I was greeted at the door and given a personal tour of the gallery. The Prairie Print Makers exhibition was still going on when I visited. I think 200-some pieces from regional artists were hung in the main gallery, and there were hundreds more pieces in the side rooms. The staff were very friendly and informed about the artists and works in their collection. I enjoyed the tour, and I wish I had more time to look through the pieces in the back rooms. I recommend paying a visit to Mid-America Fine Arts to fans and collectors living near or visiting Wichita.

While I was there, I toured the rooms and was very impressed with the variety of mostly local artists. The surrounding art work adds to the beauty of this venue near one of the most popular streets in Lawrence, Mass St. Despite some post wedding drama, the manger was quick to act and competent in working to make the reception as memorable as possible. I would highly recommend this venue for business meetings, receptions, or just a casual day viewing some impressive art.

It feels welcoming the moment you walk in, and the artwork is presented in a way that lets you really appreciate it. I only give it three stars because there was a live band and the music was so loud that it completely drowned out any meaningful conversation. The artist was trying to talk to patrons about the work, but you could barely hear them over the noise. For an art reception, I think the volume should be low enough to actually enjoy the experience--not overpower it. The other problem was the purchasing experience. When I wanted to buy a piece (which was priced at the kind of level where you're spending thousands), the process was oddly inconvenient. I had to stand in line at the bar, and while the staff was multitasking making me feel rushed and an inconvenience. It felt like hospitality and customer care took a back seat to everything else. I'd love to come back because the gallery itself is fantastic--but I hope they reconsider the noise level and make the buying process more focused and respectful for serious collectors.
