Canceling Vivint was far more difficult than it should have been…read more A year ago, I was told I needed to pay off my equipment financing before I could cancel service. After paying off the equipment, I called to cancel and spent over an hour on the phone speaking with two different representatives. I was repeatedly placed on hold for 3-5 minutes while they returned with new offers to keep me from canceling, including discounted monitoring rates and replacement equipment through "loyalty points" that I had never heard of before despite being a customer for years. I was also charged an additional $35 for equipment-related costs that I was told were not included with my financing. Although my cancellation request was eventually approved, Vivint informed me that my account would not be processed for cancellation until 10 business days after notice was received. I was also told that monitoring charges would continue during the review/processing period. The representatives were polite, but the process felt focused on retention rather than providing a simple and transparent cancellation experience. Customers should not have to spend over an hour on the phone, endure multiple retention attempts, and wait additional business days just to end service.

I never answer the door for strangers but the Vivint salesman called me by name and said my…read moreneighbor sent him. Lies! With a 1.06 BBB rating, Vivint Smart Home is well-known for employing a large commission based door to door sales and high pressure, deceptive tactics. Monty, the marketing manager with an incredible offer, started off friendly enough. Then came the invasive questions. "What do you do? How many smart devices do you have? Who's your alarm company? How much do you pay? It's wireless? The WiFi could go down. It's wired? Someone could cut the phone line.. We have smart thermostats." I have 2. "Vivint is compatible!" Monty pulled out his fancy iPad which showed pics of him smiling with families, impressive flood lights that follow intruders, garage door openers, cameras, large HD screens. Everything but the cost. When I said I'd prefer to read the reviews first Monty pulled up the Forbes rating. All the while, he kept trying to come inside so we could "talk." After about 25 minutes of upsell attempts, he ball-parked an $80 monthly quote. I asked for a card. "It's virtual." Monty wouldn't email me or leave info so I could have time to decide. Finally, I gave him a fake phone # to get him to leave! Vivint has settled multiple lawsuits. Impersonating salespeople steal personal info from consumers to apply for fraudulent loans to increase their commission. Bad credit? Reps find someone with a similar name and run their credit or add a cosigner without consent. Then the cosigner is contacted by a Vivint debt collector! Vivint paid millions for tricking customers into signing high-priced, multi-year contracts that were impossible to cancel. Vivint charges more than the contract says, sells faulty equipment, won't produce receipts, renews contracts without consent, misinforms customers about their cancellation policy and charges customers after they cancel. If a Vivint rep comes knocking, do not answer or give out any information. Buyer beware!!!

BUYER BEWARE! We…read moresold our home in June 2021. Since then we have tried to cancel our Vivint system, which we left with the home. First we were told just to give 30 days notice. Then we were told we had to provide the new homeowners contact info (I'm not doing that!) Then we were told we could just defer for 12 months, and finally after getting ugly, we were told to send our "handwritten"request by fax or email. We did this in July of last year. (The equipment was financed and we have continued to pay the finance fee until paid off. The issue is the service/monitoring fee.) Today, over 15 months later, we were told we are delinquent on this (the service fee, not the equipment) and that our request to cancel was denied. Of course, we were not told it could even be denied, nor that it was denied until today. (Except the email indicates they did receive it, they were processing the cancellation and would be in contact if there were issues.) So today we get a call that we could finally cancel by paying the delinquent amount plus a $300 cancellation fee. Y'all don't know that I will die on this hill. These people are CROOKS! We do not own the home. We do not have access to the equipment. We have tried all the things to cancel. And if you do your research you will see that we are not alone. I wish these reviews were available almost 5 years ago when we decided to get the system. Do yourself a favor and get a different system. There are several good and comparable companies in the market.

I called Brandon to see why. He told me he will order me a backyard camera and it would be free. And it would take a month for me to get it. So I was iffy but ok with it. Oh well it's been 5 almost 6 months I been reaching out to Brandon no response so I called the company so they can reach out to him no response for 5 almost 6 months. I asked them if he still works for Vivint they said yes. I also asked them if he been reaching out to them when they called for me. They said he has not responded. So my thoughts was how is it that a sales representative not responding back to his employer. For 5-6 months and he still works for the company. This is not good COUSTOMER service and now I am going to have to pay for the camera I paid four months ago for my equipment. This is not a good company run do not believe nothing Brandon Morano say to yo if he rings your doorbell.

I must confess that I first became aware of Vivint through a cold call from them. I had looked into…read morepurchasing a home security system before but decided they were not worth the expense. I even looked into several more tekkie DIY systems, but while I love some of the technology out there, I frankly don't trust my own savvy to install it properly. I chose not to invest in a system. Sometime later, I received the call from Hayley, a charming and quite helpful sales rep for Vivint. As she thoroughly outlined the company's various options, I was, again, quite taken with the technology and possibilities for expansion. At several points I asked, quite pointedly, "what's the catch?" After each inquiry, time and again, Hayley patiently explained to me the different levels of service options and available equipment. After a verbal walk-through of my home and needs, I opted for the total automation package, though I would need additional equipment. Hayley's response was, "let me see what I can do for you." And so she did. At no extra charge, I was given an additional automatic deadbolt, an extra motion sensor, and a second key fob. These were NOT upsells; I paid nothing additional for them, and my monthly monitoring fees did not change despite the added benefits. In fact, as another bonus, the first two months of monitoring my system were waived without my even asking. Installation was scheduled, and the technician, Tyler, arrived a bit late, though not without calling me in plenty of time to let me know exactly when to expect him. He was spot on time then (early, in fact). Tyler, too, was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly (as seems to be the norm with Vivint personnel). Until I read offsite reviews, I had no idea that technicians work on commission. Tyler asked me if I'd like a sensor for my utility room door. As it's outside of the house, I really hadn't given it any thought. He was scrupulous enough to notice that I have lots of tools stored in there. Again, no extra charge, simply extra service. He left me with no unpleasant taste in my mouth from trying to upsell me from the equipment included for free. Perhaps that's because even Vivint's most basic products are cutting edge and will last a lifetime or be replaced. My only disappointment was the fact that one of my automated locks is brass while the other is nickel. Tyler assured me this wouldn't be a problem; I'd simply need to contact customer service, and they'd be happy to exchange it as he didn't have another nickel lockset in his van. All told, the installation and training (which included myself, my mother who is visiting from out of town, and my neighbor who is a keyholder) took about four hours. To me, this is NOT a drawback as many on other sites have indicated. Rather, it shows a committment to doing a job right; a job Vivint warrants for life. You can't get that level of support for a hit-and-miss DIY job. I'm certainly not going to back my own workmanship for life haha. Further, I don't trust the security and well-being of my loved ones and cherished possessions to a novice such as myself. I finally got around to contacting Vivint about changing out the brass deadbolt for nickel. This time I spoke to Danielle. True to Vivint form, Danielle was bright, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful and intuitive. As she was scheduling the return installation, I asked her about the possibility of adding an additional keyless lock to my outside utility room. I would certainly have understood if it couldn't have been done, since the contract had already been agreed on, and the outside lock was an afterthought. Danielle not only arranged to have the additional lockset installed and monitored, but she got it for me at 75% savings! Kudos! My customer service and technical experiences thus far have GROSSLY exceeded what I would expect from what I consider to be the preeminent companies. If having the option of doing it yourself is more important to you than having a highly-skilled professional perform a job he'll back for life, by all means, look elsewhere. Likewise, if that trained professional taking his time to do the job correctly to ensure the safety and security of your loved ones and cherished possessions is too inconvenient, I can certainly see the benefits of an out-of-the-box thirty-minute install DIY system. As for me and mine, we're going to stick to the state-of-the-art, cutting edge technology of Vivint. I'm very, very grateful for the peace of mind they've given me. I've already made several referrals, and will make many more. Don't overlook this outstanding technology and customer service for a couple of dollars a month. That could prove to be a much costlier mistake.

My wife called them to ask for a replacement and was told we would have to upgrade the entire system. I didn't have such issues with ADT so I decided to cancel the services with Vivint and get a system with ADT. I called Vivint several times to cancel my services. Each time I was interrogated regarding the reason I wanted to cancel and was subjected to attempts to get me to upgrade my system. When that didn't work, I was put on hold several times. When that didn't work, they simply hung up the phone. This went on for months and I didn't use their system. Instead of them canceling my services as I requested, they continued to bill me. I found this out when a collection agency sent me a letter. This was so unprofessional of Vivint. A person has the Right to cancel their services. I tend to believe that I am not the only one who has had this issue with them. Something is strange about this company. One customer service rep became panicky when I pressed him 10 straight times to cancel my service and proclaimed that he "didn't want to lose his job." That was not my problem. All I wanted was my service cancelled as requested. I will never use Vivint again and do not recommend them for your security needs. They do that adequately, but their equipment needs a lot of maintenance and getting a cancellation is frustrating, time consuming, and may require legal action.
