Everything was pretty good. Had to wait a while, but otherwise, all was ok., But the best part was the office manager, Renai. She actually cared about us in the waiting room trying to make it as painless as possible. Once in the exam room the nurse did all the usual tests and realized I was in need of urgent care. When she informed the office manager, Renai advised the doctor who came to the exam room immediately. After I was stabilized, they made sure I got my meds, got home safely and even made follow up phone calls the next day to check on me. It was a little scary, but the entire staff made everything much better. No need to look any further for urgent care in downtown. Gaslamp Medical is the place to go. No doubt about it. read more

If your looking for a new physician in the 92101 or surrounding areas give them a shot. I love the convenience and the ability to walk in without an appointment and usually be seen within the hour. They seem to accept all major insurance carriers and again I am a big fan because of the convenience. It's nice to have a local spot you can walk to and not have to worry about making an appointment and waiting 3 weeks to be seen! Sometimes they are a bit busy but that is expected. If you can go mid morning or later in the afternoon that seems to be the best time. Early morning Monday's always seem to be very busy! :) read more

To recap: There are two separate listings for Gaslamp Medical, one has bad reviews and the other seems to have better reviews. One way or the other, the negative reviews crack me up - the reviewers are outraged that they have to wait! Let me reiterate: This is a doc-in-the-box. What do you expect? Appointments? WELL - he takes those too, if your care isn't urgent. If it is - see above. Sorry to have such circular reasoning, but if you expect concierge care at an urgent care center, who's running who in circles around here? Dr. Quinones and his staff have always been as responsive as they can be given their business model. Personally, I would rather my physician spend a little more time on me and will wait as long as I need for his patient care. Super nice and knowledgable doc running a solo practice in Downtown San Diego for over 15 years - give him some props. The fact that he has a smile on his face EVER is admirable enough. Y'know that old George Carlin schtick, "Somewhere in the world is the world's worst doctor. And what's truly terrifying is that someone has an appointment with him tomorrow morning"? Yeah, it's true. I have been to some pretty spectacular doctors in my time, but Dr. Jose Quinonez did not seem particularly qualified nor interested in really meeting patient needs. Dr. Quinonez would accuse me of lying about my symptoms to his nurse, when in reality I'd been asked some questions that were not particularly helpful, and kept trying to convince me that a fever, not my chest pain, was my overriding symptom. It was uncomfortable. At the end of it all, I left undiagnosed with a referral for a specialist who couldn't see me for nearly 2 months. 2 days later at Kaiser, after my symptoms worsened, I had the whole thing cleared up in an evening. Doctor's offices scare the crap out of me. It's usually filled with crying kids, people coughing what I can only imagine is the second wave of the bubonic plague, unfriendly staff who are just waiting for the clock to hit the end of their 8 hour shift. My manager has frequented this location on almost a day to day basis so it wasn't much of a surprise that when I had needed to go to doctors for my procrastinated care on my UTI, I ran straight here. The waiting room is very small, maybe 9 seats total . The receptionist at the desk isn't overly friendly but she also doesn't look like she hates her job. The longest I have had to wait (yes I have been there more than once) was 30 minutes top. Once your name is called a friendly nurse takes your vitals, puts you in the room and it's only another 10 minutes before the doctor comes into the room and examines you. I have had two different doctors and both have been very nice. They prescribed me my medicine and advised drinking lots of water and cranberry juice to prevent this in the future. Super friendly, and seem to really care in what usually is a "turn and burn" enviroment. I'm not quite sure of the parking situation, I believe they have a garage but you have to have them open it up. I've usually always have found street parking in front of it. read more

He is really a great dr and very thorough. I make appointments because walk in time can be lengthy. The nurse is amazing and he always entertains my son. Great at blood drawing! I like him because he has a personality and cares. He is my new dr and worth driving downtown for. read more

Arrived 15 minutes early for my 9am appointment, it is now 9:30 and still waiting ...and it's not even busy. The waiting room is very hot and it appears they don't have or use an air co ditioning system for the comfort of the patients. Update: 10am and nothing yet, I have seen a lot of the girls laughing, conversating, setting up Christmas decorations...the waiting room is now full ! read more

Avoid this place. It took almost 3 hours to see the doctor. I had a chronic cough and he didn't even look down my throat. Then, he missed calling in a prescription and the wait time on hold is outrageous. I won't be going back. read more

The office staff was helpful and pleasant to work with. The doctor who runs the clinic has terrible bedside manor and did a poor job examining me. I felt rushed and was told that he could not help my problem (which was easily diagnosed by a different doctor who I saw after.) This is the absolute worst place, by far. The wait is ridiculous, the staff does not care. You could have a serious illness and they are rude. Wait time is no less than one hour. You need to wait about 2 hours to get a prescription refilled and once you are in they take no more than 5 min. The absolute worst service!! read more

Not recommended. Had appointment for 9am, Filled out forms and such by 920. Went to complain why it was taking so long to see Dr and why it was so hot in waiting area and the front desk nurse was surprised they hadn't seen me. Get called in at 10:15. As soon as I walk in I see 3 nurses with 0 patients chit chatting about their kids. That being said the nurse and the Dr. were pretty helpful and nice. YMMV but I'll ask my insurance to send me to a different location next time. read more

This place is down the street from me. I was having a tough week and needed to come in. Fortunately they take Cigna. There was no wait and the doc really helped me out. Went in for a couple things. It's an Urgent Care with one doctor so it takes a little time. It's an older place but it's clean and well-kept. The people at the front were nice, the assistants were nice and made sure to tell me about the wait once they brought me back so I wasn't stuck just wondering. I had a problem, they helped take care of it and with no run around or unpleasantness. For the kind of straightforward problems you might go to an Urgent Care for, I'd recommend it. read more

The wait here is never bad, and the doctor is quite friendly. Unfortunately the 2 times I went to see him he gave me weird, off brand versions of common drugs (such as Vicodin) that I had to go to multiple pharmacies to locate. I don't know if he has some sort of agreement with a certain pharmaceutical company, but it was a real pain in the ass. read more

If you don't have insurance this place is where you need to go. The Doctor has always been nice and knowledgeable without making you feel like you are wasting his time (I've experienced my share of doctors who make you feel like you are not worthy of their time). I had to knock a star because the wait times like any other urgent care sometimes can be frustrating and how crowded it can get. There is a training program for medical assistant students which once in a while requires a little patience as they are having to learn how to enter your info and perform certain tasks pertaining to working in a medical office in all fairness we all have to start somewhere. I'd recommend this doctor if you need to see a doctor sooner than later, if you want a doctor that takes same day appointments/walk-ins, has the ability to be versatile in treatment areas due to all the Urgent Care conditions that require treatment, just make sure your expectations are realistic of any Urgent Care. Like I said before if you do not have insurance and need a doctor that you can see on a monthly basis or as needed this is an affordable asset. Plus they always have candy at the front read more

I made an appointment for a simple physical and waited TWO HOURS after my appointment time to be seen!!! The doctor had no idea how to perform A PHYSICAL that the nurse had to explain to him what needed to be done. The kicker?? They took my insurance, said it didnt cover the cost and I had to pay out of pocket THEN ended up charging my insurance $350 anyway!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??! I have to admit, I was a bit suspect about going here but the doctor is great! He is a very nice man and was extremely caring and easy to talk to. The only reason I gave it a 4 star instead of 5 is because on his assistant Ron. Ron was very rude, dry and seemed like he really did not care. He has a HORRIBLE attitude. It is too bad because all the other employees were very nice. I could not believe the attitude Ron even gave to the doctor when asking him a simple question. Did he forget the doctor signs his paycheck?!?!? I would return back there but next time I will not be so polite to the rude assistant. Someone needs to make him aware that he is the ONLY reason this place is not top notch. He is a bad seed in the bunch!!! read more

I had serious scrapes and a gouge-type wound on my left knee due to a fall while hiking over some sand-covered rocks on a trail. The left knee wound was serious. Checked in and waited over an hour but figured that was expected, so no big deal. Wait staff and medical personnel very friendly; no complaints there, but the most serious of my wounds wasn't treated properly. The left knee wound should have been flushed out as there still was some grit in it. (My sister and I flushed out the wound as best we could with bottled water right after the fall.) The flap of skin hanging off the wound, with grit still attached, wasn't cut off but laid back over the wound. I was bandaged up and given a prescription for an antibiotic should I need it. That wound showed signs of infection the next day. I've been taking the antibiotic for a couple of days now; and while the other wounds seem to be doing better and are less painful, the left knee wound still oozes, is still painful and looks infected despite having scabbed over. Maybe if the rest of the grit had been thoroughly flushed out and the skin flap cut off, it would be doing much better. I'm seeing my regular doctor today to see if she can help the healing process. The inadequate treatment of that one wound is my only complaint, though, and this place was there when I needed them. read more
