This is my favourite Indian restaurant by far. It just ticks every box on the curry appraisal sheet.
Baba's don't try to pretend to be something they are not. No fancy décor, no ostentatious designs. This restaurant says what it does on the tin, and it exceeds those expectations by a long, long way. The tables have a hard plastic cover, easily wiped, ready for the next onslaught of addicted patrons. And believe me this restaurant is never empty.
Based on the famous Ladypool road, the closest place I could compare the area to is Brick Lane in London. It has that same kind of feel and if a more artistic element influences the area it could become internationally renowned in a decade at the most.
Ali Baba is the best restaurant in this exciting new area.
My favorite dish is the Rogan Josh, the sauce has a strong tomato and cumin flavour to it, suits my taste, maybe not others, but the choice is vast and the dishes are equally as good. I have had the same dish 10 times in my here, I need to widen my options in life apparently.
The sweet counter they offer is very cheap and they have a great selection of Barfi, Gulab Jaman and other intensely sweet varieties. Please don't pass this up. They will prepare it in a take out box for you.
The staff members are great here, laid back and friendly. They are used to dealing with a very busy restaurant and the more inebriated souls of our society.
You must bring you own alcohol, they ask for a minute corking charge, but it still beats over inflated drinks prices that all restaurants earn a great deal of revenue from.
Please come along here, it is a curry house institution. I'm going again this weekend. read more
