The booking process was easy and if we had any questions Matt came back with an answer straight away, the day of the BBQ there was plenty of delicious meats, salads and bread rolls and we could have fed another 20 people. Matt's attitude and customer service was second to none, really attentive and could not do enough for us, and would not accept any help when it came to clearing everything away. Regardless of the typical British BBQ weather (rain, hail, snow and sunshine) everyone really enjoyed their lunch. A massive thank you to Matt and his team @ Shropshire Hills Catering. What we do like to do, however, is order pizza, drink Prosecco and watch films. It's never a mental, crazy night; but it means we get to spend time with each other and enjoy fast food (which we hardly ever actually eat). For the last few years we have ordered from Dominos. I'm a sucker for online ordering (especially when you can pay with Paypal meaning you don't have to mess around with card details) and it's as simple as going online, selecting your address, choosing your food and paying. They even have a funky system which tells you 1) when the order has been received, 2) when the order is processed, 3) when the pizza is being prepared, 4) when it's in the oven and 5) when it's out for delivery. Imagine our delight when just 20 minutes after the order had been placed, our pizza was out for delivery! It may have been a cold and windy night, but we were all set for a lovely night of eating, drinking and chilling out. So we settled in and waited... and waited... and waited... After an hour had passed (that's right, one hour), we got a call from our delivery driver telling us the traffic was bad. Now... this doesn't exactly ring true. We live around the corner from this branch and the traffic is NEVER bad (especially to do the less than 5 minute drive to our house). Still... we waited... 15 minutes later, we get another call from the driver telling us he's outside. A simple glance out the window tells me he's NOT outside, he is halfway down the street. I even explained this to him (without avail). Queue my poor other half going out in the rain and cold to collect said pizza. He even asked the delivery driver the policy on late deliveries and got the answer "I don't know". Well, thanks for the well-trained staff Dominos! Once we finally had the pizza in our grasp (you guessed it), it was cold. So our valentines order consisted of late, cold pizza as collected by a cold, damp boyfriend. Very poor show. We walk by BBQ Village ALL THE TIME when exiting New Street toward South Side and finally made up our minds to give it a go. I'm so glad we did. The restaurant is decorated so nicely. The outside doesn't give a proper impression of just how pretty the restaurant is inside, with beautiful wallpaper, pottery koi, and beautiful paintings on the walls. We were seated at a hotpot table, which has a steam plate in the middle for sharing a big bowl of hotpot and heating pads at each seat for keeping your hotpot warm once served out. Next time, I am ordering hotpot because that seems to be the specialty of BBQ Village. I ordered Sichuan chicken and dim sum soup with chicken broth. The Sichuan sauce was properly spicy. SO good! It was practically swimming in chilis, but also balanced with vegetable oil and vinegar - just the way I like it. The soup was so flavorsome. I could swim in it. The seasoning was absolutely perfect. This will be a soup I crave and would imagine it would be the perfect remedy to a cold. I highly recommend the green tea, which is accented with the perfect floral notes. No sugar is needed for such a delicious tea. We shared a pot and it held plenty of tea to drink all throughout our meal. My goal for the next visit is to ask for the Mandarin menu, which in reading the Birmingham Mail, I understand has more menu items.
