    hummus, soooo good!
    Lily W.

We visited Ali Baba while in San Juan, and overall had a great experience! The hummus was absolutely delicious, super creamy and flavorful. And the pita bread was top-notch, probably some of the best we've had. We all loved it! My husband and I shared the lamb shish kebab, but unfortunately, it wasn't our favorite. The meat was a bit tough and not cooked quite the way we like it, which made it hard to chew. That said, the wait staff were incredibly friendly, and the atmosphere was so cute and cozy, making the whole experience still enjoyable. I would definitely come back to try a different dish next time. There's a lot on the menu that looked amazing!

My coworkers and family chose this place for lunch after arriving in the city. We were seated right way on arrival and the staff was attentive and friendly. It might have helped that I had a cute toddler with me. We got the naan and hummus to start and ordered some lamb since we figured it was a specialty for a place like this. I was too crazy about the lamb shish kebab but my coworkers lamb donor choice was tasty and came with some delicious rice on the side. I wouldn't mind coming back and trying other items on the menu.

Hidden directly across from the Condado Marriot. Very good Turkish spot. Humus was excellent. Falafel wrap and the lamp shawarma also very good. Service was fast and attentive.

Such huge portions. After landing in Puerto Rico a friend recommended this restaurant. Tucked a bit off the street go and find it! They have indoor and outdoor seating. A cool vibe and big portions of good food. I split a mixed platter with a friend and it was very filling. Samples of chicken, beef and lamb.

Found this place on Yelp and had to check it out. The place is quite charming with outdoor and indoor seating. There are Turkish lamps hanging from the ceiling that the owner brought over to PR 18 years ago. This was the first Middle Eastern restaurant in San Juan according to our server. We started with some strong Turkish coffee and a ginger martini. My partner is vegetarian, so we decided to try a variety of dishes on the menu. This place has a lot of vegetarian options. The tabbouleh was fresh and a solid pick. I like dolmas, but my partner can take them or leave them. These were pretty standard, and I enjoyed them. The spinach feta pide was amazing. Super well seasoned and baked to perfection. I enjoyed the lentil soup. The falafel plate was also tasty, and they had nice flavor. Bonus for the chili sauce they had here. Overall, this was probably a 4.7, but they don't let us rate like that. I would definitely come back.

My all time FAV Turkish restaurant in Puerto Rico! Always consistent. The quality of food is incredible. Authentic. The dishes you shouldn't miss: hummus. Tzatziki, Greek salad, sigara, Lamb chops or kebab, mix ottoman casserole all AMAZING! Also don't forget the baklava. Friendly staff. Quick service. They have inside and outside sitting. They also have parking.

We chose all vegetarian options, including the falafel, which was very good. Not the best falafel ever, compared to falafel in Israel, but very good. And the appetizers included the feta tomato & parsley salad, and the eggplant stew. They both were good, but the eggplant stew was outstanding. Served with the Turkish bread, which is tasty, puffed, sprinkled with sesame seeds and beautiful. A great place if you want tasty food and also to eat within a Mediterranean diet.

I finally got to try Ali Baba. The restaurant is located at 1214 Ashford Avenue, steps from the nearby Marriott hotel. They offer inside and outside seating. Servers are friendly, knowledgeable, and fast. The menu has a lot of things you don't find often in a restaurant in Puerto Rico. The hummus is great, especially with their Lavash. Don't be surprised if you crave more Lavash, but be careful because it will be freshly baked and very hot. I highly recommend the Lamacun (Turkish Pizza) and the Backlava for dessert. Will return.

Found this little restaurant as we walked along Ashford St, and figured we'd give it a try. They had a pretty nice Mediterranean menu at reasonable prices. We opted for the hummus appetizer, which came with the biggest, most delicious homemade naan bread I've had anywhere! We also opted to split a Greek salad, and some chicken shish-kebobs. Everything was great tasting!

So imagine everyone had to go down the line and say their orders twice 2) There were two loud speakers playing music right by us, the music was so loud it was vibrating the floor and hurting our ears. We asked to turn it down 3 times and were ignored and had to suffer through it. 3) the servers were pouring bottled water like their life depended on it and afterwards I knew why because we ended up paying over 100$ of bottled water. They did not ask us if we wanted more bottles but just kept filling our water nonstop 4) the food took sooo long to come out, we were there for 4 hours from first order to dessert. Everything was very small portions and average at best. It was also soo salty at times I couldn't taste anything besides salt on my tongue. So disappointing for how long the wait was and definitely not worth 79$ id rather have gone to McDonald's. This place did not care about its customers and food was mediocre, I would never come back and you should save your money.

The space is beautiful with chic interiors, trendy lighting, and a calmer atmosphere than most of the other spots around the plaza. I really wanted to like it. Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. The cocktail I ordered was extremely bitter and not enjoyable, but the real problem was the food. My cod came out rancid and my cousin's lamb was spoiled too. I asked the waitress to take a look and she immediately recoiled, admitted it was bad, and took it away. What upset me even more was that when I asked why it had been served at all, the explanation was that it "wasn't fully rancid, it had just started to ferment." That is no different and absolutely a food safety hazard. I ended up so sick that I vomited in the restaurant trying to get it out of my stomach, and everyone at the table has had horrendous food poisoning since. Two out of four dishes being rotten is unacceptable at any restaurant, let alone one presenting itself as high-end. The setting may be stylish, but none of that matters if the kitchen is serving food that is unsafe to eat. I left feeling disgusted and honestly concerned for anyone else who eats here.

My brother and I tried dishes from both menus, and found it to be quite good. As we were walking past, a small sign for 'Grandma's Kitchen' caught our eye. My brother had been encouraging me to try Puerto Rico's national dish: Mofongo - mashed fried plantains. Unfortunately, restaurants were just packed with long waits and I wasn't in the mood to wait outside in the sun for a long time. The door next to the sign stated that it was a restaurant called 'Istanbul'. We peaked inside, and was welcomed warmly by a host, who let us know that the restaurant was both Grandma's Kitchen/Istanbul. There was nobody else dining inside, which was weird considering how every other restaurant in the area was packed. The dishes are made to order, so took a bit of time for it to come out one at a time. Mixed Seafood Stuffed Mofongo ($25) - served in a wooden pilon, the tall and narrow neck was stuffed with the mashed plantains, topped with a seafood blend of clams, dense fish pieces, octopus, and squid. The sauce was really well done, not too rich, but buttery enough to accentuate the seafood. I have to believe the seafood was prepared from frozen, but it tasted really good: a definite notch up from the seafood I've been having on the cruise boats. It was the first time having mofongo, and I liked it. This version had fried plantain chips, mixed with the mash of more plantains. I don't think this version had pork skin rinds, and I didn't miss it. It's extremely dense, so ended up eating maybe a third of it while finishing the seafood. It's a solid alternative to rice, though definitely can't eat too much of it. Doner Kebab ($18) - from the Istanbul portion of the menu, this dish was tasty, though the meat was cooked on a flat top grill like a burger patty, instead of on a vertical rotisserie. The lamb/beef patty was loosely formed and well seasoned, with the accompanying tzatziki sauce being a good add-on. Both dishes were cooked very well, the back kitchen has some skills. Service was friendly throughout. Water is not offered, but guessing they will give to you if asked. Payment was provided after the meal, and they do stick on a mandatory 15% gratuity for all party sizes.
