Worthwhile to check this out for anyone visiting the area to get a snapshot glimpse, particularly if time is limited. Currently, the University of Wyoming Art Museum presents an exhibition to explore its place in the American West. I enjoyed the Oronzo Gasparo's (Italian-American, 1903-1969) art- people, places, and things. His drawings and paintings are bright, colorful, fascinating, and mysterious. "The next exhibition borrows its title from an iconic book of the same name. Micrographia, by Robert Hooke, was first published in 1665. It touched upon the many various interests of its author, including distant planets, the origin of fossils, the wave theory of light, and primarily focused on the visualizations of the microscopic-plant cell walls, insects, and others. This artistic approach to transdisciplinary science encapsulates the motivation of this exhibition. How does science benefit from art? How does art benefit from science? This was my first visit to Laramie, Wyoming and a homecoming football game at War Memorial Stadium…read morefeaturing the Wyoming Cowboys hosting the Air Force Academy Falcons. War Memorial Stadium has a capacity of 30,000 seats and...although entering this game Wyoming had an 0 - 4 record on the 2024 season, fans still came out in support. I'd say there were 25,000 people at the game. For a 6pm kickoff, they allow you inside War Memorial Stadium a full 2 hours ahead of time. This gives ample opportunities to walk around and explore what Wyoming's football venue has to offer. What was interesting about the layout here is that there are no stands or seating sections in either end zone. You either sit on the home side or visitor side. Right before entrance gates opened at 4pm, Wyoming had their pregame "Cowboy Walk" where cheerleaders and band members greeted the players arriving at the football facility. It was entertaining to watch this. Wyoming played and sang their fight songs while crowds looked on. I checked on Stubhub and TickPick for a single game ticket just for myself. Prices ranged around $50 at the cheapest. I was surprised by this considering Wyoming had gotten off to the poor 0 - 4 start. But then again...it was homecoming and it's the one game of the year that usually receives the most fan attention. Anyhow, I purchased my ticket at the University of Wyoming website for a $45 flat fee. It had me in the upper section behind Air Force's sidelines. And for a 30,000 seat stadium, pretty much anywhere you sat was a viable option. But once entering inside War Memorial Stadium, there's a cowboy statue located beside the athletic field house which presents a good photo chance. Plus, this area is where players enter and exit the field. I would assume in traditional fashion, every player touches this cowboy monument statue for good luck. What was disappointing about a late September kickoff at 6pm was the sun factor. On Wyoming's home side, fans were sitting and drenched in the heat of the sun. And from my perspective, it was impossible to take any pictures of the field with the shining light. Now...on the visiting Air Force side with the sun facing the backside of War Memorial Stadium, the stands here were completely covered in shadows. It was like a double whammy, virtually impossible to get in any quality pics, and for me being a photo enthusiast, this was a letdown. What I actually did to remedy this entirely awkward sun situation was that I returned the following day (Sunday) to the stadium around 10am and since they allow the general public to walk around at their own leisure without any locked gates, I was able to revisit the stands and capture those coveted photos I had come to the Wyoming game for. So...my results turned out to be a success, lol. Some highlights from the game.... - I liked how after the national anthem was sang, two military helicopters did a dramatic flyover War Memorial Stadium. There were also fireworks lighting off into the sky from above the athletic field house. Whenever the Cowboys scored a touchdown, the fireworks blasted off again and again. - Wyoming's band did terrific pregame introductions along with conducting the halftime events as well. - As the game wore on into the evening on the last Saturday of September, it got incredibly cold, especially once the sun went down. And with the wind howling...it felt practically freezing. - I give Wyoming's fans credit. They really showed their spirit throughout the game. Here it was, the Cowboys hadn't won a game yet on the 2024 campaign, and still, no one gave up. Air Force led 13 - 7 at halftime but Wyoming got their act together in the 2nd half and scored three touchdowns to win 31 - 19. Best of all....at the end of the game, fans rushed the field and they allowed anyone to come on down and celebrate. Of course I had to step onto the 50 yard line and touch the famous Cowboy logo. That was memorable. In the end, I know Wyoming isn't a Power 5 conference school and won't play in college football's biggest games, but a fun Mountain West clash against their rival Air Force was definitely worthy of coming to Laramie, WY for the first time. WRONG for two reasons: (1) there are many other buildings besides the actual prison, and some have stuff to see inside; (2) there is a lot of history - especially outlaw history, duh - presented by many poster-sized photos of inmates with their individual stories, plus maps and some historic items. Oh yeah, there's also a guided tour you can take; I recommend it. And finally, there's a gift shop; my wife bought a book of old WANTED posters and has really been enjoying the colorful way outlaws used to be described! Pro Tip: bug spray. Mosquitos made us miserable until we used it.

We found mixed reviews about camping at the Albany County Fairgrounds, but filtered the comments based on our needs. We only really needed a safe place to park, with full hookups, and a level surface. This location fit the bill. We lucked out and arrived after a recent event had ended that utilized the camping area, and kept everyone else locked out. We were the second RV to pick a spot so we chose the north end where there are three 50 amp hookups, all the others were 30 amp or less for power. The most RV's at one time was 8, but they cycled through most every night. We stayed two nights so we witnessed the turnover. Our spot was near a neighboring business that was cutting up scrap wood, etc. It was a bit noisy early in the day, but the evenings were quiet. There was some livestock in the rodeo grounds area, and some horse trailers came and went based on events going on. There was an indoor shooting range building near the campground, but we did not hear any noise from it while we were there. None of the animals buildings seemed to be in use since the county fair was not happening while we were there. I was able to walk my dog around the grounds without incident, and enjoyed the exercise. There is a railroad track nearby and we could hear the trains running when outside of the RV. There were negative reviews about the smell, but we didn't really mind, since it was the fairgrounds and we expected to encounter that type of aroma. I would definitely stay here again when passing through. It was quiet, the price was good, and we were able feel comfortable staying there.

If it wasn't for the fact that there are every bit of 278 people in this little hamlet, you could…read morebe forgiven if you completely by-passed this Historical Museum on the outskirts of the burgeoning metropolis known as Centennial, Wyoming. The roar of the dense traffic (an average of about 5-7 cars per hour) could lead you to worry as to whether crossing the oncoming lane of traffic on a narrow country lane is a safe bet. Well, worry no longer even though there are no actual plans to add a traffic light, additional stop sign, or even a blinking yellow crosswalk to this picturesque town. After an approximate 25 mile drive from Laramie, the mountains start getting bigger in your windshield - well, because they are getting closer. As you come down into the entrance of the valley, you begin to get the idea that you could actually live and retire here. Before you decide to do that, you really need to stop at this museum located at the entrance to the town just wear the signs warn the deer, elk, and occasional tourist to slow down to about 30. Warning: Not slowing down will cause you to miss the museum, the ice cream shop, the coffee drive-thru, the steak houses, the tavern, the little store, and might even get you a ticket from the lone policeman who sits in his patrol car just past the steak restaurant on the left. Be warned as it is definitely a speed trap and Barney Fife will stop you and throw you in the clink for trying to destroy this pristine haven with your Co2 emissions. It does not matter that it probably emits less than the flatulent cow herds scattered around town. Back to the museum that is on the left hand side of the road, DON'T MISS IT! It is run by volunteers who also recommend that you don't miss it. The people of the town don't want you to miss it. In fact, if Centennial had a mayor, they would probably campaign on the promise to bring more traffic to the Nici Self Historical Museum. So, DON'T MISS IT! Seriously, the museum is free but does accept donations to help keep the doors open, so contribute as much as you feel you can. The museum continues to add quaint exhibitions that show you things like the history of the town, the history of the mine which is now closed, and the ranching heritage of past generations. There are several very large ranches in the area that are still in operation. The exhibits also include items like a clawfoot metal bathtub, uniforms and outfits from over 100 years ago, an old train caboose, old fire engines, horse-drawn wagons, a nice wood-working shop exhibit, and even a distant relative of Mater of "Cars" fame sits ready to take on the next winter with his skis and tracks. Having been a funeral director in the past, it was also of interest that there is only one grave in this entire area and it is located at the museum. The grass is fairly well kept and it is fenced off, but no other cemeteries. The caretakers did not even seem to know why this is because many old towns even have some semblance of a Boot Hill. While you can probably see everything in less than an hour, you could easily spend closer to 2 hours reading all the interesting pieces of trivia and the history of the hardy generations who came to live where very few were willing to live at the entrance to some of the most beautiful country in the world.
