WRONG for two reasons: (1) there are many other buildings besides the actual prison, and some have stuff to see inside; (2) there is a lot of history - especially outlaw history, duh - presented by many poster-sized photos of inmates with their individual stories, plus maps and some historic items. Oh yeah, there's also a guided tour you can take; I recommend it. And finally, there's a gift shop; my wife bought a book of old WANTED posters and has really been enjoying the colorful way outlaws used to be described! Pro Tip: bug spray. Mosquitos made us miserable until we used it.

We learned about the forgotten history of some extraordinary women, early feminists such as Martha Symons Boies, Louisa Swain, Eliza Stewart, and others, who's amazing stories must be told and remembered. We learned lots of important and fascinating facts. For example, Wyoming (Territory) was the first government in the world to guarantee women the right to vote. We also enjoyed chatting with the volunteers and checking out the fun gifts and souvenirs. If you happen to visit Laramie (or you live there) do yourself a favor and visit the Women's History House!

I bet it would be c ool to see though, especially if you're a fan of outlaws, in particularly Butch Cassidy. Wyoming Territorial Prison was built in 1872 and restored and renovated in the 1990s by the efforts of the citizens of Laramie. There were 12 women housed here and more than 1,000 men, the most famous of which was Robert LeRoy Parker "Butch Cassidy". With territorial status, there came a need in Wyoming for a facility to house convicted felons. In 1869, the territorial legislature approved the construction of a prison. The federal government approved funding the following year and two years later the 42 cell facility opened with Deputy United States Marshal Nathaniel. K. Boswell as first warden. Until then convicted felons were housed at the Detroit House of Corrections. Unfortunately, the opening of the new prison did not solve the problem, since the expense of the Laramie facility was greater than shipping the inmates out of the Territory. The Prison charged as much as a $1.00 per day for each prisoner, while after 1878 Nebraska agreed to house inmates in its State Penitentiary for only forty cents. During the period 1882 to 1887 Illinois agreed to house the prisoners for free. Thus, during the period from 1882 to 1887 most inmates went off to Joliet. Indeed, a federal inspection of the Laramie facility in 1884 found only 10 inmates, some of whom were permitted to go into town on Saturday night. Behind the prison on the right is the broom factory. In addition to brooms, the inmates constructed furniture, some of which is on display in the Laramie Plains Museum. To the left of the prison is the horse barn. The barn is now used for a dinner theatre and a museum devoted to the Federal Marshals Service. The small building on the left, is the warden's residence. After 1887, the Penitentiary was overcrowded even with the construction of a new wing. The new wing housed three cells for women inmates and medical facilities. Rules for inmates were strict. They were required, among other things, to bath in the summertime twice a week. In the winter they might be required to bathe only once a week. They laundered and made their own clothes. Among the inmates was Butch Cassidy. Although construction of a new prison at Rawlins was proposed as early as 1886, it was not until 1903 that a new facility was opened. It is an old saw (but not true) that in the distribution of the capitol to Cheyenne, the prison to Rawlins, the lunatic asylum to Evanston, and the University to Laramie, that Laramie had last choice. With the opening of the new facility at Rawlins, the old prison was converted to the Agriculture Experiment Station under Bert C. Buffum as director. The area has now been converted back to a park and museum and includes the United States Marshals' Museum and exhibits as to early ranch life. While at the prison, visitors can check out other sites on the grounds, including the historically furnished Frontier Town, the Warden's House, a Union Pacific boxcar and the Horse Barn Exhibit Hall.

I brought a friend here today, in the person at the cash register was kind of rude. Chalk it up to Covid. If you are in LARAMIE... And this place isn't packed... With lines of people trying to get through... I do recommend checking it out!

Please do not send your child here. It seems that they cannot keep teachers and we have seen…read moreinconsistency with care. Some teacher seem to lack experience. I once came to pick up with a child hitting another child and the teacher doing nothing to stop it. I had to ask her to intervene. The owner and directors have poor communication and we aren't given emails to the owner or director, just one general email. I wish we could leave, but don't want to just pull out because of friendships established in the class (and no space in other centers anyways). Frankly, I am devastated that I choose abundance over another center when we were choosing daycare/preschool options-- family friends at other centers seem more pleased with the care and education their child is receiving elsewhere. Please see through the smoke and mirrors that they present to prospective families. This center appears very poorly run.

On the surface level, Abundance seems like an amazing option for childcare. They tout a curriculum…read morethat combines Reggio Emelia, Waldorf and many other education styles that are hard to find in Laramie. In the year that our children attended, the school management attracted some of the best daycare and preschool teachers we've ever experienced. However, our happiness with the center was short-lived. The truly talented teachers seldom stay longer than a few months. In the year that our toddler was in the toddler classroom, he had 4 main teachers. The management make frequent changes to policy that are not communicated clearly to parents including making parents agree to a school year contract and a non-compete (parents are not allowed to open their own daycare - um, what?). The management of the school is disorganized and lacks administrative experience. They seem to rely on their "vision" more than actually running the school. The school is one of the most expensive in town, but does not provide lunch or snacks (a policy that was changed with very little notice), the building is old and the teachers have to leave classroom windows open to avoid a gas smell that fills the classrooms, and the summer program is an absolute nightmare. Last year they hired one, college-aged young woman who clearly had no experience with kids and then gave her a group of 20, which she frequently took on walking trips all around town. The teachers who are still at the school seem defeated and are subjected to the same unpredictable changes and behavior that we saw. They are also required to sign non-competes and one teacher that I know of was fired for babysitting for a center family after hours. It's truly a shame because some of the teachers are so, so good. If they were in a supportive environment, there's no doubt they could be one of the most competitive daycares here. If you're looking for childcare in Laramie, proceed with caution before choosing Abundance.
