The crew said to wait for the next boat for 15 min. The next boat came in half an hour and again admitted only 5 passengers, the rest of us left waiting and we're going to be late for the plane. A little confusing to navigate. We got on the wrong water taxi by accident! It took us the wrong way we needed to go. Asking for directions was hard too since we don't speak Italian. The employees don't really care if you are on the right water taxi. They will just say "yes" if you ask them where it's going. That's how we got lost. Finally, someone who speaks English (tourist) told us we needed to get off this taxi, and get on another taxi going the other direction. Thank you! Great and affordable service. They have a lot of stops so is easy to get around. Basically, this is a taxi service but is a boat instead of a car. They also sell a lot of tours to the other islands around Venice like Murano, burnout, and others. I took a tour and we visited 3 islands. When you land in Marco Polo Airport, go downstairs to Alilaguna, follow the signs for water taxi. It was like 18.oo euros for one way to Venice or 32.oo for a round trip. Do not buy a return and consider booking the cheaper bus which is more reliable. Very poor customer service. read more

Your 15 Euro ticket doesn't reserve you a seat nor assure you'll be able to get on the shuttle in a timely way. We waited 1.5 hours and four shuttles came and went that were at capacity before we had to bail for a private water taxi. Splitting one of those with another family would have been the same cost with none of the hassle. Alilaguna staff seemed indifferent to the fact that dozens of irate travelers were left on the platform and missing flights thanks to them. I'm pretty sure in 2024 they could figure out how to assure reserved seats online. At the very least, they could refund those who couldn't stand to waste their day and miss their flight waiting for a shuttle. Rode the orange line from Venice airport to Rialto station. When we boarded, the Alilaguna employee took our 5 luggage and placed it with all other luggage at back of boat then moved us to seats downstairs at front of boat. When we got off boat in Rialto, only 3 of our 5 luggage were there. The employees at boat exit just shrugged at us and said "sorry". Either those employees stole our luggage or they gave it to other passengers at exit for two other stops. We have contacted Alilaguna 5x and they are totally not helpful, don't care, and said no reimbursement. This was the first day of our 12 day Italy trip and two of us have no clothes, toiletries, etc. We now spend our 3 days in Italy having to buy clothes, toiletries, makeup, curling iron. They're magicians and masters of no solutions. You get on the water bus at the airport with 5 suitcases and when you get off at the Rialto stop they hand you only 3 suitcases. Lots of confusion and no answers or solutions. Basically they tell you "this has never happened.". Had to prompt them to even get their phone number to check in later if someone turned it in. The "office number" they gave us said in the past the luggage is usually turned in later. Funny because the boat employees said this never happens. Multiple calls and emails later leads to nothing. I bought the tickets online ahead of time for a 1 Euro discount. That got me a voucher that still required me to wait in line to get the actual ticket. Once we got in line, it was a little unclear which boat to take, and we initially ended up on the wrong one. That got me yelled at by the guy managing the line. I pushed back and I think he actually appreciated the effort. Once you get on one of these boat-ferry's, all is well and you are on your way. The problem is that there is a mass of humanity waiting ahead of you...and I mean a mass of humanity...and you probably are jet lagged, hungry, and needing a bed to crawl into and pass out from flying into Europe all night. Plan on an hour wait to get into a boat to Venice...or longer. Then plan for the boat ride..maybe 30 minutes or more? UGH! The water taxi from the airport is definitely packed with passengers as others have mentioned; however, the operators do a good job managing space so you don't feel over crowded on the boat with your luggage. My biggest complaint with this service is that the first water taxi in the morning arrives to the airport at 5:10am. The last taxi to the airport on the blue line at night arrives at 12:10am. Venice is already an expensive city with the hotels (at least if you stay in Venice proper), restaurants and your gondola ride. If you're coming from VCE and use water taxis it's gonna be at the very least €100 to the island itself. If you have the time take the Alilaguna instead. Going rate is MUCH more affordable. €15 one-way, €1 discount if you buy online. Purchase your ticket either at the machine or the counter just outside the airport. Cash and credit card accepted. There are two lines that go about the island. Linea Blu (Blue Line) connects to the Cruise Terminals via San Marco. This is also the route used to get to Piazza San Marco as it passes right through it. Linea Arancio (Orange Line) goes towards the Rialto. The boats are simple and the commute is somewhat long. As a comparison from the airport to the San Marco stop it took a bit more than 1.5 hours. The stop for my hotel located in Dorsoduro took about 1 hour 45 minutes. The water can be rough especially when docking, but if you're prone to seasickness then Venice may not be the destination for you as you'll pretty much spend a good portion of your time on a boat. Ali laguna are thieves. Do not use them! At around noon on April 19th, 2016 my father and I took the Orange Line from Venice Airport to the Rialto "C" stop near San Marco in Venice. Jet lagged from 24 hours of flights and layovers from the States, My dad set down a backpack with €10k in camera equipment in it. As a long-time hobbyist photographer, this represented a majority of his collection. We got off the boat and, unfortunately, the bag was left behind. A couple that remained on the boat saw the backpack and turned it into the captain. That was the last time that the backpack would be seen. Several followup calls to Ali laguna (including their corporate offices) that afternoon went ignored. Over the course of numerous visits to their main ticket booth in San Marco, we were treated first with apathy and then open hostility including the threat of physical harm. After reporting the incident to police, it was discovered that this was not only routine, but was organized. They'd done this before and will continue to do it again and again. It probably helped I was going off season so the boat wasn't very full. Unlike some other reviewers I did not see any big problems, most of the trip wasn't very exciting only the end was there great views of Venice as the sun was setting. People tried taking pictures out the winow but the ride was to rough to take good ones. If i ever make it back I'd probably opt for the bus. This travel agency had seriously destroyed our days in Venice. It is near the train station, so when we get off the train, the first thing we noticed was this company. Without hesitation, we came inside and bought a packet of a private boat for 7 people with the price as 90euro.(the woman selling the ticket clearly wrote that it was for 7 people) However, when we arrived at the boat station, they didnt let our family get in since the maximum number for one boat is 6. There was no choice so One member of our family had to stay back on the land and waited for us. As the seller, she must have to understand the law clearly, i dont even know why their staff could sell the ticket for 7 people. On the second day at Venice, we came back the company to let the staff know about the yesterday problem. She felt very bad and said sorry to us many time since it was her carelessness. We trusted her one more time and decided to buy a tour wandering 3 islands in Venice (Murano, Burano, Torcello) for four people, which cost 20euro for each person. The staff couldn't speak English well enough to tell us direction where to get the boat. We ran around for 40 minutes, from dock to dock, to show our ticket but nobody of ACTV accepted our tickets. Finally, we missed our trip and our refund is pending. (But i don't even know if they will solve for us) We already announced our situation to the manager, he is good and willing to help us, however the way his staff works is so unprofessional and lousy. Just because of putting trust on her, we couldnt make our vacation together and many crazy stuffs happended. If you have time and don't have a lot of luggage to haul around then Alilaguna is fine but don't use it to get a sightseeing tour going into Venice, that's not what it's for, seriously. It's a commuter ferry, not a fancy tourist boat. Venice's Vaporetti are notoriously overcrowded and understandably locals get angry when tourists are blocking the boat's entrances with there monstrous trunks. Imagine you have to share your commuter bus/subway/train every morning with plenty of ignorant foreigners and all their gear, even the most friendly locals will over time eventually lose their patience. If you need to get from/to the airport to/from the cruise terminal, most definitely go with the ATVO bus. This morning I arrived at Marco Polo and there was a huge line to get tickets for Alilaguna, right next to the Alilaguna ticket machine was the ATVO ticket machine and absolutely no line. So I got the ticket for 8 Euros, hauled all my stuff for less than a minute to the bus station, loaded all luggage with ease into the bus, hopped on the bus and in less than 30 minutes I was at Piazzale Roma. Total time from touch down at the airport to being at the cruise terminal was less than an hour. Obviously, if you have to get to your local hotel, you will have to transfer to regular Vaporetti or to a water taxi. But if at least all the cruise passengers would use the bus and stay away from Alilaguna, Alilaguna might become a bit more comfortable for the people who actually have to take it regularly. read more

The staff of this "public bus" on the dock did a dump suggestion that we pay on the boat. He did not tell us the whole story that they only accept cash. Upon coming on board, the guy told us to pay cash only & would not help us get to the ticket machine to purchase. They told us to get off the boat on the next stop to purchase the ticket without offering us how or where the machine were located. It could have taken them less than a minute to do so. We ended up waiting for another boat for an hour. Luckily we left early in anticipation of problems & still have some time left for our flights. Taking the water bus to the airport is the most cost effective option in Venice. We were staying in s. Samuele and took the water bus to rialto where we bought tickets (€15 each) for a 45 minute ride to marco polo (venezia) airport. There is plenty of luggage storage and it is covered so you're not freezing in the water bus. You basically arrive at the airport and there are clear signs to the check in counter and area you need to go to for your departure. read more

I found this company through the VCE airport website under their list of transportation options. They have a website in English which is fairly easy to navigate, and their routes are color coded which is very helpful both in reading their maps and making sure you get on the right boat. I purchased tickets through their website, which offered a discount of €1 off the list price of €15, and was instructed to print out a voucher to be exchanged for tickets at the dock ticketbooth. At the Venice airport, there is a water transportation counter which sells tickets for Alilaguna and other boats, but you do not need to go to this. Instead, you must go outside the terminal to the left, where there is a walkway covered by a translucent plastic awning. Continue down this walkway until you reach the docks. At the ticket booth there, exchange your voucher for the tickets, then proceed to the correct dock (we were on the Orange Rialto route. There isn't a clear queue, and since the incoming ferries also unload there, it can be pretty hectic! Once on board, you will be crammed like sardines into the seating areas, so be prepared to be friendly with your neighbor. The bigger bags were kept up on the deck of the boat, since there was barely room for all the passengers in the holds. When the boats unload, it's a bit like watching the clowns climb out of the tiny car. The ride itself was pretty choppy, if you are prone to seasickness, you will probably want to consider another mode of transportation. Some of the windows were open in our area as well, and people did get a bit splashed until they figured out how to close the window. The exit docks are clearly marked with their names, so it is pretty easy to see when you are at your stop. It took about an hour to get from the airport to the Rialto Bridge stop. I saw a couple of other Alilaguna ferries that looked much more comfortable than the one we were on, as well as some other companies who seemed to have more modern boats where you sit on deck, not in holds below deck, so I would probably check those out next time. read more

This is a great affordable way to travel around Venice. We took several times during our time there. First of all, book online if you can! We booked our roundtrip transport from the airport to San Marco Square and it was $25 - if you purchase it in person, it's $27 roundtrip or $15 each way. Next, if you're traveling in the summer (May - October) and are trying to get from the VCE airport to San Marco square, take the red/rosa line. Seriously, take it. The orange line got my sisters there in about 35 minutes. I took the blue line and 2 hours later, I finally arrived at San Marcos square. However, going to and from the San Marcos stop to the Cruise terminal was easy and convenient. However, going from the Rialto bridge back to VCE airport, it was a tiny boat for the orange line. Super tiny. Capacity is supposed to be at 36 or something like that, but instead, we crammed 42 people in there. We definitely passed up some stops with people waiting because there was no more space for them. read more

Pros: Likely the best time+cost value for getting from the airport to Venice. Cons: Figuring out which line to stand in for which boat for your stop takes some figuring out (the guys at the dock can help). Some ferries seemed to run more often, so you might be standing in the sun for a bit. People get very pushy to get into the waiting area, and then another mad crush when the boat begins to board. And yes, in June, it was a cheek-to-cheek affair onboard the boat. Unfortunately, there's not much of a better option from the airport. Private water taxi is very expensive; bus or train from the airport takes a longer route and requires at least one transfer and more time. If you are coming from Rome or Florence - consider taking a train - there are a couple high speed routes directly to/from the Santa Lucia station (ie: the one in the center of Venice). We left via train and that was MUCH better - just be sure to book 2nd class or better so you know you have a seat. Perhaps Alilaguna could offer assigned seating, I'd pay a few extra euros for that ;-)... read more

Be aware of this company's online scam. They let you buy a voucher online, which needs to be converted to a ticket. I bought mine for an early morning departure. With their office closed and ticket vending machine broken, I was unable to convert my voucher. The staff refused my voucher and forced me to buy tickets again. I was unable to get reimbursed for the voucher and ended up paying double for the same ride. Furthermore the on-site staff was very patronizing explaining me how "online shopping works" and that I should have read the Terms and Conditions. Venice is a city of excess. No one HAS to visit Venice, it is a dream vacation spot and not that easily accessible. So if you have spent the money to get airline tickets and hotel rooms in Venice, please do yourself a favor and not put yourself into what's basically a trash barge turned into a passenger boat. I suffered for 1.5 hours to get to San Marcos square from the airport. The boat stops EVERYWHERE else first and then San Marcos square last. It has no AC to speak off, it is cramped, the seating is all on the low deck and you can't see anything from the windows. The boat was chewing metal in its transaxle the whole time and vibrated like the propeller was about to come off any minute. There was nowhere to put our luggage and it was definitely not handicap accessible nor was there a toilet / restroom on the boat. Furthermore someone had a small child that got thirsty, there was no water to drink -- nothing. This is the most miserable way you could start any vacation unless you are an inmate going to your brand new sentence on the reopened Alcatraz prison -- wait I am sure even those prisoners would get AC. Yes it was 30 euros per passenger as opposed to the 150 euros for the sea taxi. Don't be a fool, don't be crazy, just pay the 150 Euros and take a water taxi -- you came here to enjoy yourself so be whisked away to your hotel instead of carried into the city in what seems like a two hour creeping trash truck. read more

Their boats start at around 6:30 am, despite the ticket desk telling me it started at 3:30 am. Also, the boat driver would not let us get on saying it's completely full, and we had to insist we try because the next boat comes in 30 minutes and we had to get to the airport. When we got on, there were at least 5 open seats inside...The driver was really rude and pushed me into the boat, and yelled at us. This is my second time using this service, and I would not do so again. I wish I got his name so I could file a formal complaint. Just be wary if you use this company-make sure you arrive well ahead of time for your flight in case they run out of room and don't pick you up! read more
