This daycare is wonderful. The owner is very loving and the assistant seems so caring. I'm super surprised about the previous reviews. As a parent, putting your son in daycare for the first time... he will cry and my son did. I pick him up early on my own first couple of days until he got use to it!! We have used Alisa Day Care for years first with our older daughter and now with our son. The service has always been great and my kids thoroughly enjoyed their time there. I often have to wait to pick up my son because he doesn't want to leave as soon as I arrive. The lunches are all home made and my kids have always said they are delicious. Alisa brings in outside teachers and music teachers so the kids get exposed to a variety of topics and experiences. They also work on arts and crafts. The facility is clean and the outdoor area allows the kids to safely run around on nice weather days. Alisa treats my kids like they are her own grandchildren, I don't think you could ask for more from a day care provider. read more

I had the worst experience with Alisa daycare, and my advise to anyone reading this is to avoid her services. My brother in law tracked Alisa down online, and we went to see them in person. They seemed warm, and were happy to take my daughter and nephew the following week. We fully briefed them on both kids, and sorted out the money too. On day 1, we drop off both kids. Upon arrival Alisa was shocked to see my nephew. She knew he was 8 months old, but she profusely refused to take him. In the end, we all waited around until she was comfortable enough to handle him, and left. this meant I missed a day at work as she wanted us close enough to pick him up in case of problems. Come 12pm, we were told to come pick him up as she did not want such a young baby. This put us in a horrible situation as we had no day care for him, and had wasted so much time with them. On day 2 I take in just my daughter. Alisa frowned upon me that I still give her bottled milk, but I decided to ignore her comments - judging a parent is not very professional at all. During the day I got a text saying Sophia was crying too much, and if I can come pick her up earlier. Well seeing as I was in the city and at work, I was not able to do that so I had to sit there and stress knowing my daughter was upset and I could not help her. On day 3 I take my daughter in again, hoping that today would be a better day. Alisa texts me to tell me she was restless, running around too much etc. Again, I am at work so what does this lady expect me to do?? And if she knew anything about children, she would know that it takes time for children to adjust. Plus its why I'm paying her for! At the end of day 3 I get some pictures sent to me - it was of my daughter with a huge scratch on her face. Apparently she was trying to get through their flimsy baby gate and scratched her face. If they were pay due attention, she would not be hurt and that upset me so much. She was not with people who care. Just greedy, money hungry people. The next day I get a text saying they do not want to take Sophia in anymore. No explanation, no reason, no care. I have three children, all of whom went to Alisa Daycare. Before choosing Alisa, I had tried two different daycares, which I am not going to mention. The bottom line, they where feeding junk food in plastic containers with plastic utensils and had way too many kids to watch after. My 24 months old daughter was hysterical going there because she felt abandoned in the crowd of kids. Then Sandy happened, which caused the daycare in question to close. So, I had to look for another one on the island. The minute I walked in to Alisa's daycare I knew that was it. Alisa is a extremely tidy and her house always feels like a team of housekeepers just finished deep cleaning. Because it is a house daycare, she is limited to 12 kids, another plus. And now, most important, she cooks organic homemade food and asks parents to bring silverware so that children feel they are eating home food. Not a single daycare I went to had this option, much less would agree to wash plates and silverware after each child. Yes, the place is not big, but it surely feels like home, which is very important for a child who is transitioning from home to daycare. My daughter never cried. She ate healthy, she left cared for and loved. Alisa made my children love eating soups, fruits and vegetables. When I ask my youngest son, who still attends Alisa Day Care, what he had for lunch he says: "Prov and Soup". Alisa, employs only kind and caring employees, she helps me find help when I go on vacations. I am truly thankful for everything she has done me and my children. Regarding the review of a mother, who was distressed and took her time to write a negative review because Alisa couldn't "handle" her children, I want to say that is not about money. If your children are so distressed about your absence (who cares that you are at work) and take away attention from other children (who pay the same amount as you are) you arrange a transitional period and don't complain. Needles to say, a nanny at home is a more suitable solution for the eight months old. I also tried to leave my youngest when he was just 9 months, because I wanted to go to work and not deal with him. The same way Alisa asked me to wait couple of months because he was taking attention from other kids. I agreed, waited and it all played out very well and in the best interest of my and other children. If anything, it shows that Alisa cares about every child equally and if the balance of attention is disturbed she doesn't care about money and kindly asks the parent to wait. I had a terrible experience with alisa's daycare. I had looked at many daycares when I thought about putting my 12 mth old in daycare, alisa's daycare seemed like it would be the best fit since its so small and alisa kept saying 'it's like taking your child to grandmas house.' We found the daycare in June/July and agreed on a sept start date. I was a bit worried because my daughter would be the youngest child they had (everyone else was 2-4) but alisa assured me it wouldn't be a big deal during our many touch points b/w July and September. I had brought up to her several times that I think my daughter will have a tough transition since she's never been in that sort of environment and that I expect her to cry all day at first. Alisa assured me over and over that they will take care of her and it won't be a problem. She started on a Tuesday after Labor Day and I dropped her off around 9:30 and told alisa I'll pick her up at 12. Alisa told me not to, that she just needs to be thrown into it and do full days. I said call me and let me know how the day goes. She called me at 10 and told me to come at 12, fine. When I picked her up @ 12 she asked me to pick her up @ 12 the rest of the week. Again, fine. She then told me what a tough day it was, she cried the entire day (9:30a-12p) and how hard it was on alisa and the other teacher. The next morning I drop my daughter off at 8:45 (they open at 8) and she greets us with, 'oh! The crier is here early! Why is the Crier here so early? What are we going to do with you for so many hours?!' Needless to say I was a bit shocked but chose to ignore it and gave her the benefit of the doubt. When I called @ 10 to check in alisa proceeded to tell me that, 'this is awful. It's hell. We don't know how to calm her down'. I asked exactly what was going on and she just said that she won't eat, won't drink just cries and distractions don't help. I said, 'this is only day 2, I fully anticipated this, I told you this would happen and anything else would surprise me. My daughter is very strong willed and if she's upset she'll cry. You can't distract her with something shiny, she just has to get used to her environment.' Alisa was like, 'are you sure it's going to get better? Let's hope.' When is it the norm for the parent to comfort the daycare owner instead of it being the other way around? Once again she reminded me to come at 12, I parked by the daycare @ 12:01 and got a call from alisa at 12:00 asking where I was. When I arrived I listened at the door for a min before ringing the bell and could hear my daughter crying on and off. By no means was it a tantrum or anything outside of what you would expect from a baby transitioning to a new place. When I went inside my daughter was immediately excited and was smiling and giving me kisses. At which point alisa says to her. 'Oh wow! You know how to not cry you crier? You can't be with anyone but your mom! Hmm you do know how to smile and not cry.' I was so appalled I was just standing there cringing absolutely speechless as to how you can possibly make a baby feel so unwelcome and make a parent so uncomfortable. Alisa then asks me if my daughter was born at a normal birthweight, if there were any complications and if she was 'normal'? I told her that she was asking me if my 1yr old daughter who was very aware of her environment and was in a different place with strangers for a total of 5 hours (5 hrs in 2 days) and was upset and crying until her mom came to pick her up- because I needed to make sure I was understanding her correctly, she said, 'yes'. I thought the only thing not normal here was her asking that unbelievable question. Alisa then said that her and the other teachers were shaking because they were so stressed out by my daughter and that they'll give it till the end of the week and see how it goes, but that 'this is hell'. Needless to say at that point I knew I wasn't taking her back there. Keep in mind during the 2 days there were only 3 other kids there (all older) every time I came the kids were sitting at a table doing NOTHING, I haven't seen a smile on a single kids face over the 2 days when I was in an and out. In addition they couldn't pronounce my daughters name (she has a very simple 5 letter name that's not Russian ) but they couldnt get it right. After I told them 5x how to pronounce it. At pick up on day 2 I heard the teacher refer to my daughter by a completely different Russian name. I was like, 'that's not her name!' To which the response was, you call her by her name and we'll call her by this nickname. This was a horrendous experience and I wouldn't wish this on any parent or child. We are now left nanny-less and daycare-less and trying to figure out what to do for childcare for our precious, perfect, 'completely normal' 1yo.
