However all beauty and history aside, there are a few drawbacks that hold this parish back a bit. My primary criticism is the Liturgy. Despite all the beautiful walls within the church, the mass within the church is a bit... hollow. Why have a gorgeous high altar when you don't even bother to use it? Why instead is the altar that is used look like a little table that barely fits anything? This parish should use the tools that God has given them, not some renovations from the 60's. This is also reflected in the atmosphere of the parish overall. People talking before and after Mass, dressing in jeans or shorts, and just an overall lack of reverance. It's far from the worst offender in the area, but it's just another in a line of irreverent Masses. This church deserves so much more! As for the staff, they seem friendly enough. Fr. Anthony seems nice enough, but he seems like a priest going through the motions. Overall I will always be at awe over the art in this Church and likely will visit again for that reason, however improvements can be made. I've seen much worse here in rural Texas, but this church needs to embrace its traditions. The future of The Catholic Church is in tradition. Younger generations yearn for tradition!

Today we just finished our first time at St. Mary's Annual Bizarre (2019 was their 125th annual bizarre). This bizarre was amazing with a great, large turnout (huge). We loved experiencing the community, the country and homemade BBQ and deserts; live auction so fun; great silent auction and the kids loved the games. We really appreciated how the bizarre is a great gathering feast to Montgomery, Plantersville and around. If visiting the area, St. Mary's would be a nice place to visit followed by Sunday late afternoon fun at Bernhardt Winery in Plantersville.

I stood there for a while until I could make out an empty chair. Nobody greeted me, not even the person sitting next to me. I couldn't stay; I felt uncomfortable and had to leave immediately.

I went to the pastor (Dale) about something, a major life event that devastated me, took me two years to work through it. I begged to speak with him, nothing. He didn't talk to me, he didn't advise me, he ignored me. I even wrote him an email a month ago telling him how he hurt me and he ignored it. He didn't acknowledge how he hurt me--he just ignored me more!! The pastor of a church cared nothing because I wasn't in the cool kids group!!
