With my bestie having packed up and left London for leafy Epping, it was clear that Essex in general, would become a regular haunt; and it has. The George and Dragon has a nice local feel. All ages roll up for drinks, food and banter. I have been here several times, even had my new years' eve drinks there which was nice. Finally on a Saturday afternoon we wanted to recover from the night before with a hearty lunch! You should definitely note that from Monday to Friday until 6pm, they have a great fixed price lunch with £12.50 for two courses or £15.50 for three courses. Well worth it. Unfortunately it being the weekend, we missed out on this saving (sad face). The restaurant is not expensive though, it is reasonably priced. In terms of space, it is very cosy and warm. To the rear, they have outside seating for the warmer months. We opted for two courses to help us recover from our La Sala shenanigans. Delicately fried salt and pepper squid with aioli was my starting off point, gorgeous. I followed up with sticky chicken marinated in lemon, honey and chilli sauce, roquito peppers (which I love) and French fries. The chicken was a little bit dry, but generally it was ok. My Essex champion had deep friend Somerset brie with an apricot and cumin chutney. Unfortunately, her cheese had not been cooked enough and could have been a bit more gooey. For mains, it was the beer-battered cod fish finger sandwich with tartare sauce. This brought a smile to her face, as it was good. The service was prompt. The place had a good buzz with a half full restaurant of dining folks. They say it is the people that make the place. Every time we have been here, the bar team have been suitably cordial. We never need over the top in your face service, but the odd smile and attentiveness is welcomed. On this occasion, our waiter was miserable. He acted like he wished he was somewhere else, as did we, as this put a dark cloud over my first dining experience here. Having heard friends rave about how amazing the food was, I only saw glimpses of it on this occasion. Maybe this was an isolated day or perhaps we were psychologically affected by our bored waiter. Regardless, this is not the last you will see of me. I will be back to get me some of that outstanding food and service my local friends have been promising me.

I didn't have any off the champagne menu but apparently they do a happy hour (2 for 1) on the sparkling options from 5-8pm. The place came across as a bit seedy, with strange neon lighting, cheap looking decor consisting of awkward red, white, and black compositions, and showroom-eque drapery making it feel like a failed strip club's back room. Just didn't come across as very thought through with aspects seemingly shoehorned into it. Unsurprisingly, it was completely empty for the first 2 hours we were there. I hear they are redecorating which is probably a bonus-deserving move for someone in management. It's an otherwise good space in a great location. Also, it's too close to work for me not to give this wheel another spin.

The usual food, in fact pretty much the same menu as at all of them I think. The quality has been a bit hit and miss for me, though their burgers are decent. The puddings have been a bit of a let down specifically the rhubarb crumble which is more just rhubarb and custard and only a smidgen of crumble. Still, it is pretty good value as they do a two course menu for £10.

This particular breakfast was good, but the tomatoes and mushrooms were way overdone. All in all, good but not great sums up the whole experience and the pub itself. Its not really that exciting, the foods decent, the beer is not over priced, but not cheap either. It's not a place that I would go out of my way to find, but its convenient location will definitely draw me in for a pint every now and again.

It have plenty of outdoor seating for the warmer months. However, I like how expansive the place is. Though it looks 'old English' from the outside, the more towards the back you go once inside the more glassy and modern it becomes which is nice. The couple times I've been here, I have found it not busy and I always manage to find seats (which is such a weighty criteria in my book). The staff is great and always friendly though the beer is a little on the pricy side. I hear the food is pretty great here but have yet to try it!

You know what - despite my entire preconception I liked it. It is not a place were locals go out as it is so central in London, but lots of people start their night there for some after work drinks. This is also more the clientele - people in suits and skirts. I ordered a red wine and some olives - but I guess this is more of a cocktail bar. I also did the toilet test - very clean and styled, another factor, which seemed exceptional. If you walk around the corner there will be a different area waiting for you which has even more the glamorous and oriental look - jewels all over!
