I went here for a first date and was a little wary when it was suggested as every time I had walked past it seemed a little 'un-chic'. I have to say though I was proved wrong and on entering from the manic crowds of Piccadilly, it is actually a gorgeous place. The lighting is dim and there is loads of seating - we had no problem at all finding a table on a Saturday evening. The area around the back is the best as it is a little less crowded. The decor is extremely glamorous - lots of velvet, draped curtains and chandeliers - almost tacky but not quite. Jewel is actually quite sophisticated and a great place for a date! Piccadilly is a no go for me - touristy, no soul and only considered in emergency. Now where would I go if I meet someone who does not know London that well: Jewel bar - it is central, piccadilly - easy to find - a good start! Entering the bar, I first was asked if I was over 21, any lady takes that as a compliment. Inside mystic atmosphere welcomed me: candles, chill out music and chandeliers hanging from the sealing. You know what - despite my entire preconception I liked it. It is not a place were locals go out as it is so central in London, but lots of people start their night there for some after work drinks. This is also more the clientele - people in suits and skirts. I ordered a red wine and some olives - but I guess this is more of a cocktail bar. I also did the toilet test - very clean and styled, another factor, which seemed exceptional. If you walk around the corner there will be a different area waiting for you which has even more the glamorous and oriental look - jewels all over! read more

Definately worth a visit, even if only on special occasions or a date etc.. it's so easy to find (right outside the tube station) and I absolutely love the decor (so much so that I actually have used the venue a couple of times as a backdrop for shooting some of my shop stock!) I love the cocktails in this place and would definately recommend it! I've now moved my boutique away from the Soho area so will have to another after-work hang out! Godverdomme... ... 信じられない。。。。 As you can see, I'm trying to start this review out by alerting people around the world who might fall prey to what is deceptively called "Jewel" Picadilly and most likely should be called "Coal" Picadilly. So what happened??? Grab a seat, some mulled wine and let me tell you a Christmas story about a boy and a lump of coal... Twas the night before Christmas, where two happy chaps Walked out of the tube, not suspecting mishap! A fine Christmas dinner, at Jewel was booked The two chaps could not wait, to see what has been cooked Images of meat, and puddings galore Drooling at the mouth, to see what was in store Arriving at Jewel, the two chaps were perturbed To find out there was no meal, so they became disturbed... How could this be???? They confirmed on the phone!! Even with confirmation e-mail, they could not atone. 25 hefty pounds, were paid as deposit Could the chaps get it back?? Jewel did not give a shit The two hungry chaps, had to use up the pounds They thought might as well, drink up some rounds But to their dismay, not even the bar Could offer good service, making the chaps think... "AAAAARRRR!!" No smile, no care, they could not be bothered To the poor hungry chaps, this was uber absurd! Twas the night before Christmas, where two fellows now thinned Walked out of the Jewel, with their night ruined Christmas poem aside... I'm new to London and trying to look for a new years eve place was quite exhausting! After going through some "best of" lists, I came across Jewel and their website looked promising with an even more promising price! They didn't accept online reservations for Christmas eve, so I spoke with their booking department, explained two London virgins wanted the Christmas meal, and all was settled. Imagine our surprise to walk into a bar with no one having a clue what we were talking about!! Since I paid the £25 reservation deposit over the phone, I was almost sure it was a scam website! But after showing my e-mail confirmation, they realized this was a real booking. There was only bar food, but we were like HEEEEEEEEEELL NO! So we ordered a bottle of champagne from the rude bar man, who seemed angry we ordered a drink, to drown our shock away and because I could only use up the £25 deposit at the bar. We spent that time yelping things nearby and thank jebus we found something that wasn't full! It was quite expensive, but turned out to be great and saved our Christmas Eve disaster at Jewel. As a patient and forgiving chap, I can forgive a possible mistake done by Jewel's booking department. But how we were just parked at a table and told to order some bar food instead of a Christmas meal and also that they couldn't even refund the £25 and I had to order drinks from a rude person at the bar... definite one star. read more

Eh... Was in London on holiday with a friend and wanted to go out for a night on the town! Found this place in her guidebook and we were intrigued after finding out it was owned by J. Lo, haha. There was a cover, which was annoying, and it was only £5 or something, but the American dollar was weak at that time, so it was expensive in our opinion. Drinks were expensive (which was to be expected) and seating was limited. We walked back and forth a bunch of times through the narrow club, only to find every seat occupied. There was way too much floor space, considering no one was dancing, and the tables were all squished together. We eventually found a spot to sit. The interior was nice, huge chandeliers and whatnot, furs, and girly boudoir-looking decorations. We did notice that there were a lot of gay men (a few came to "harass" us about why we didn't try and be more social and we had to explain we were just trying to have our own girls' night). It was okay night, but it was v. basic and I wish there had been more dancing. read more

One of my favourite places to come in London! I've been here a few times for happy hour, 2-4-1 Cocktails, HELL YES! And it has always been a great atmosphere. I've only eaten here once, we had the sliders... I have one word for you, Delicious!! We chose to come here for New Years 2014 Black and White party, from what I remember.... It was a fantastic night. As there were only 3 of us, we didn't see the point in booking a table, but as we arrived early (for the free champagne fountain, obviously) there was a free table right by the bar!! As we had bagged, what I believe to have been the best seat in the house, it was so easy to get served, so the drinks were flowing all night (Hence my memory being a little... Lost) If you've been shopping along Oxford Street, or been to see a show, this place is perfectly placed! It's great to pop in for a couple of cheeky ones and some nibbles, great to finish the night off before heading home, and of course, great to spend the whole night partying! Who knows how to make a Classic Champagne Cocktail? Nobody here apparently. I've been coming here for over a decade. During that time the aforementioned drink has gone from a must have... To a "who gives a monkeys". Sad stuff. The spot on service and staff used to be the selling point of the place. I am not tempted to stay for further drinks... You know - I returned here the other day to give them another chance before I posted what I had written above. I am sad to say that the calibre of the staff and the ability of their drink making did not improve. I ordered a classic martini, the bartender did not have a clue how to make one! Now, you tell me, is that worth a tip? He fussed for over 15 minutes with a drink that only contains 2 ingredients. I'm sorry. That was the theme of the night. However, I'll start with the good. The staff, once you can identify them and get their attention, are super nice and helpful. This was worth the second star because they were really great. The not so good. It wasn't easy to find out exactly who to speak with about a booking. It turned out to be the fur-coated door-woman who very kindly showed me to the bar upstairs (I'm sorry, but let's walk outside since it's quicker) and left me to find the cocktail waitress who could tell me where I was to sit. I'm sorry, but who/where is she?? After a second list check, I was showed to a corner of a sofa where another party had moved in on our 'reserved' section. I'm sorry, I'll try to get more seats (cushions, as it turned out....sorry). Once the group started to arrive more "I'm sorry, but it's just me and one bartender" as an excuse for why it took way too long to get drinks. When the drinks arrived, there were set on the tiny tin table. I'm sorry, but it seems to be wobbly. I'm sorry, I can't fix it. Lots of slightly embarrassed smiles and I'm sorrys all night long! I liked the dark room with Crystal droplights, candles everywhere. The music they play need some improving. It is located in the center of all actions of Piccadilly, perfect stop for a drink if you around this area. Im not too fond of the title Jewel, as it to me it just suggests a slightly tacky place. But it's not at all. This particular Jewel, unlike the other one nearer to Covent Garden, is right near the hub of the always over crowded Piccadilly Circus. As you enter you are immersed into a dark room, with a soft glow of light here and there. Quite the romantic place to be when it's not so crowded. Try get a seat in the room around the corner, away from the main entrance as it's slightly more laid back round there. They have a simple selection os wines, which are ok. But I would say to stick with the cocktails. I got stuck into the Mojitos, made from fresh mint and Bacardi 8yr rum, and found myself ordering one after the other. A good place to go for a few drinks before heading out out. read more

It's a fun place to hang out, sort of half bar, half club with a definite theme to its decor. It's dark, looks sexy in a sort of 90s gothic way, and is pretty relaxed. I too prefer this one to the Covent Garden version, mainly because this one gets busy and has a decent atmosphere. I have never had to pay a cover to get in - either I get there early or I manage to blag my way out if it (if there aren't many people inside and you go to walk away, they waive the cover. I just don't get why people like this place. I can't stand it, but some of my friends like it, so I end up here nonetheless for birthdays and get-togethers. If you reserve a table for a large group, you may end up around a low coffee table sitting on stools. I find these really uncomfortable and have an aching back by the end of the evening. The quality of the drinks is pants. The wine is practically undrinkable I don't know where they find it, but they still charge a big fat mark-up on it even though it tastes like old vinegar. I thought I'd avoid the wine next time I went and switched to spirits, but the tonic they put in my gin was so cheap and nasty it left an unpleasant after-taste and gave me indigestion. The new Jewel in Maiden Lane is much better: better decor, better service and better wine (and comfier seats too!). read more

Being that this was my first time in London and it was a Monday night, I was pleased with the atmosphere at Jewel. A couple people I know that had lived in London or visited previously had suggested to go out in Picadilly at night. The other bars in the area were too crowded and were intimidating due to the large amount of drunken males and lack of females in them. Had we gone out in PIcadilly on a Friday or Saturday, I think the male to female ratio would have been a bit more equal??? The scenery inside the bar was nice - a fireplace, fancy schmancy furniture, and some good cocktails and wine. I opted for wine all night whereas my friend stuck with the Au Pear cocktails which she thought were amazing. We ordered a plate of the calamari which was sub par. Would I go here again the next time I visit London? Probably only as a starting point for the night but definitely not to commit to for the whole night. read more

I love the Gothic decor of this place and I'm pretty sure that's what draws people in a lot of the time. Well, partly that but probably also because they heard Elton John likes to throw the occasional party at Jewel. I'd say you are best to pop in Jewel for an early evening drink. Wouldn't stay for more than a couple as it's quite pricey and the little stools can be a little uncomfortable. You'll also be fighting for space with tourists on a weekend and suits on a week night. Definitely worth a visit once if you've never been though. read more

I want to like this place, but I don't think I do very much. It's very dark in here. Annoyingly so when it's only just past four outside it shouldn't be pitch black in here. It's strange. The decor is very overdone. If it was a fancy place, it could carry it off, but honestly, it's just like On Anon with a better paint job. There's not really much of an atmosphere. The upstairs room is nice though. The Brandy Alexander is my favourite winter cocktail and I could tell whilst they made it that it wasn't going to be great - it took them all of 40 seconds to make. I was right, watery, with pointless bits of ice in. I wasn't impressed, but I was when the bill came. Two cocktails, for £7.50! I think happy hour goes on until 8. I'd like to think I'd come here to make the most of the happy hour, and then go somewhere a little nicer, but this end of town is a bit of nomansland. Can't see it happening too often. read more

I've been here twice. The place is so massive (and with two different entrances, each on a different level) that on my second visit I didn't even realize I was in the same place until a friend pointed it out to me. It's a pretty cool bar in a great location and a good place for meeting up with friends coming from wherever, for first dates and for ending a night out. It's in a very crowded area next to a Burger King, but actually for being amidst all the craziness, Jewel was very serene and a nice place to enjoy some Kir Royales with some friends at the bar. We went fairly early to hook up with some friends, but noticed as we were leaving they were charging cover. Don't know if I'd pay cover to go there or buy bottle service, because as I said, didn't stay late enough... but to grab a few drinks, socialize, and met up with friends, I think it's great. read more

My feelings about Jewel are somewhat mixed. It is an extremely pretty bar, particularly if you go in for lavish, vaguely Gothic decor. Like most places in the general West End area it is a little bit up itself and the drinks are so ridiculously overpriced I occasionally found myself tittering (I find financial excess amusing, don't ask me why). On the other hand, the cocktails are very good and it's ideally located for the beginning of a girl's night out during the week or a few post show drinks. Slightly older gentlemen in suits will attempt to buy you drinks, however, so beware. Unless you like slightly older gentlemen in suits - in which case, Jewel is your Promised Land. read more

This is a great place venue for most occasions it's a fantastic to place to catch up after work, go on a date or have a or hire an area for a party with a large group of friends. Being as it's right by Piccadilly tube station it's also a very handy place to meet people who don't know London well. It's a darkly lit cavern of a bar that is a lot bigger than you first assume. It's fitted out in a very boutiquey fashion with lots of ornate decorations and stylish furniture. The entrance area is a good place to hang out in a crowd and the back room is a nice place to grab yourself a table and catch up with friends or have a romantic drink. Cocktails are the highlight here but the spirits and mixers are also served nicely. They also serve some typical but tasty bar snacks for when you get the munchies. The music is also fantastic with some great DJ's taking over at the weekends. Overall, this is one of my top places in London for a guaranteed good night in a great atmosphere. read more

Jewel is a decent bar ... it clears all the basic requirements (there aren't that many ... it serves alcohol, and it has some variety to offer). Having said that, its not a bar that i would like to return to very often. Yes, it has a very convenient location, bang on Piccadilly Circus. However this implies that its over-crowded almost all the time. This makes it easier for them to charge higher prices than they otherwise would have ... the tourists will pay anyway. But i could have overlooked all these. But the last time i visited and asked for a cocktail at the bar, the bartender didn't recognize the drink. "What's that ?" ... she asked me. Isn't that your job my dear ? You really shouldn't be taking lessons in mixing cocktails from your customers, should you ? But Jewel serves nice drinks, both spirits and cocktails, and has a pretty good ambience. The spacious layout, coupled with the candle-lit tables could have been a nice place for a quite romantic evening if not for the noise being made by the tourists around. If you want to meet someone for a drink who is new to London and you don't want to give directions, then Jewel might be the place to go ... but otherwise, its pretty average. read more

Extremely Unproffessional! DO NOT GO HERE. Tourist Trap Attempted to make a booking for a large party happy hour. I went back and forth with their events coordinator, Ruby, the day before. After I made some decisions on what to preorder for the team and asked for the credit card authorization form I never heard back from her. I sent a follow up email the day of and still nothing. My group begins to arrive only to find out that Ruby failed to make a reservation for them. After only being there for a short amount of time my group left because it was lame tourist trap vibe. Great value for happy hour, cocktails tend to be brightly coloured and sweet but for half price who's complaining!? Music is too loud for early evening - at 7pm it was like a nightclub. Though I was concerned the location would have made this place 'tourist central', this is, in fact, a fine place with a relatively upmarket clientèle. Lovely look - dark & lit only by chandeliers and those Moroccan table lanterns - and suitably posey barmen who launched themselves in to a 'tried and tested' cocktail dance routine just like in the movie, er, Cocktail. Have to disagree with some previous reviews! Despite the decor being a good to high standard (Gothic in style) I would not bring a first or second date here! And its not exactly hidden away, its got a hugh neon sign outside! The crowd is mixed, just finished work suited and booted lot, 20 somethings with some cash, and west end party crowd (not the top end lot!) oh and the men that should know better and be at home with the wife! Getting seat can be somewhat difficult (not good on that date) service is mixed, cocktails are at best 5.5/10 as the bar staff dont stike me as mixologist! Would come with group of friends to meet up and head on as its central but thats about it. You wont hate it but you also wont go telling all your friends about it! read more

The very first place I visited when I moved down South to London was Jewel. It is not what you would see on a regular basis in Manchester, that's for sure. The Chandelliers are gorgeous and the low lighting against the plush burgundy walls is stunning. I have a friend who believes it's more like something from an old horror film but I like the fact it looks a bit like the Beauty and the Beast castle. Jewell on Glasshouse St is a great first date venue. Located in the heart of Picadilly right next to the tube station is it the perfect bar for cocktails with the girls or first date drinks. During the week it is quiet with a sprinkling of people and on a fri and sat it gets busier especially post 9pm. The interior is lavish with big chandaliers and a long bar. The seating area towards the back of the bar offers small tables and intimate corners in low lighting. the selection of food is also good and perfect for post work nibbles. read more

I booked a VIP Party Package for my sister's birthday and it all seemed to go through fine with the man on the phone when it came to taking my money at the beginning but then I received a phone call from a lady a few days later saying that they had no booking so I told them I booked it and the lady said she would check and get back to me. She tried charging me again for my booking and I told her I'd already paid. The next day I received another phone call from a different lady who said that they needed payment and she knew nothing of the previous lady's phone call. I told her I'd paid and about the package that I'd booked and when she was running through the list of things that would be provided she said cupcakes instead of a cake and when I pointed this out she said they don't do cakes anymore, despite it still saying so on the website and when I spoke to the man on the phone he clearly said cake NOT cupcakes or I wouldn't have bothered booking it. The main reason I booked it was so that I wouldn't have to cut a cake at home before we went out or take one all that way. When I pointed that out she said she would ask her manager to sort that out and after having said that it was fine and they would provide a cake, they called back to say that they couldn't do so again!! That was only the beginning, when I finally got to the venue the customer service was appalling. I arrived there and the staff didn't bother to ask me anything, I had to chase them up to ask them about our VIP table, which I could see opposite to where they told me to sit but I thought that maybe it wasn't ready. Then they told me my table was ready and they didn't know why I wasn't sitting at my table no apologies. When we all sat down they didn't bring anything over for a long time and I had to go up to the bar and asked and again they shrugged their shoulders no clue what I was talking about. After another long wait they brought over some cupcakes, (most of which were still frozen) and some drinks with sparklers. My package also included a bottle of champagne, 2 food platters and some fruit and again I had to ask them each time for each one that they didn't rush to bring out! They said they had no idea about the fresh fruit I'm guessing something else they didn't do but didn't care to mention since they just wanted my money and didn't care what I got out of it. Also, when a glass was dropped on the floor and accidentally smashed, I asked for it to be cleaned up but again they took far too long to do so a terrible health and safety hazard!! Will never be going back and it made me doubt booking any sort of package like this again in a club. read more

"Appalling service, Deception, Disgusting customer service" My partner and I booked engagement drinks at Jewel Bar to celebrate our big day. I booked through a third party company called Late Night London. On booking I had made sure my partner and I wouldn't be entirely responsible for the tab and we were told all the guests spendings would go towards our minimum spend for the night and hence everyone would be essentially paying for their own drinks. On arrival at the bar my partners card was taken as security and the waitress for the night specifically said don't worry this is just a precaution but you won't be charged a penny. Through the night we started to hear a lot of our gusts saying we are buying drinks at the bar and not being charged and they apparently keep telling us there is a tab at the bar already which definitely wasn't the case and so my partner went back to the waitress and had a work with her and she said he would need to pay under £800 and because it was our night and we didn't want our party disrupted he paid it and we said we would query this later on with them. On querying this I was basically told that the waitress of the night did not say what I said she did and that if we has an issue paying we shouldn't have and they would have asked our guests to pay which would have essentially disrupted our party. This response was given to me by Dion who was extremely rude and didn't see our side at all. I have thereafter been speaking to a lady called Katrina who has admitted that the information we were given on booking was incorrect. She listened to phone calls and looked at CCTV footage for the night however all they are willing to do is give us complimentary drinks worth £100 which doesn't help the matter at all. I have now stopped getting responses from her and I am really frustrated with everything they have put us through. read more
