They were fast, provided a receipt without even asking, and after looking into their history and the impact they've had as a workplace for ex-offenders I'm proud to have supported them! There is a small fee for TVs, monitors, and HVAC/refrigerant products. It was $25 to recycle my TV but the price of mind that it wasn't simply headed for a landfill was worth it.

But if you have one of those items that have been deemed necessary for recycling, this place will take care of it properly for you for only $20 per item. I recently tried taking my old, defective large screen to a Best Buy, but was told it was too large for them. No explanation other than that. So, after trying to contact several other waste management/recyclers in the metro area and not getting any return phone calls, I found this place on Indy's east side that opened at 9 a.m. on Monday. I called ahead to make sure they were open and that the large screen wasn't too large. They said to come on over. When I got there, I went inside and paid my $20 fee and went to the dock they said to use. We pulled our vehicle up to the dock and one of their workers hopped down and unloaded the large television by himself and carried it to the dock for us. No sweat or effort needed by me. They even disposed of an old dvd player for free! Note that this place isn't the easiest to spot. If you are familiar with the east side, there is a large lake for a business that was called "Just Add Water" that used to have a lighthouse and let you try out different small boats before purchase. It is easily visible from I-465 just south of Washington Street. Franklin is the first street east of 465 on Washington. Just drive south 3 blocks on Franklin and when you see the lake on your west side of the road, look over to the east side. The sign out by the street says "Tradition Warehouse & Logistics". Pull into the parking lot on the south side of the building and head east. You will see some loading docks and a sign that is with a "TR" and Technology Recyclers. That is the office where you climb a few stairs and tell them what you want to have recycled. Once you pay, they tell you which dock to go to and send one of their gentlemen to unload your equipment. We just had the television, so we paid $20. Any additional tv's, laptops, or monitors would also be charged the same disposal rate. I am not sure if they have any restrictions on electronics or not and how much lead time you need to give when ordering pickup, but if those run as smoothly as the drop off, they might earn that 5th star! There is also a place to recycle old batteries, electronics, paint and old flags. Closed on Mondays and Sundays. Along the sidewalk there is a free shelf where anyone can take or leave items that can still be used. You can even request items on the bulletin board. Mary is very nice and always there. She also runs the Recycling Center for the Arts. This room inside of the building has a ton of free resources and materials for teachers at non-profit schools to take back to their classroom for use. I've been "shopping" there for two years and have stocked my room with many wonderful materials! Businesses can donate to this project as well as individuals.

First off, they have a pretty neat website with the Dos and don'ts of trash and recycling and then there's a registration form to pick a slot for drop off. I registered and was promptly available at the given time. I am not sure how the registration works cause the staff at the facility didn't validate or even check if I had a slot till I proactively let them know. Either ways, I dropped my items off and head out in less than 5 minutes. There were carts and each drop off box was clearly marked so to ensure no confusion. The facility was pretty barren and no cars in the parking lot so it took me a minute to figure if I was at the right place. But in general my work was done and I was definitely satisfied.

I've been doing some cleanup work at my house and at a relatives house in Michigan. So let me just say, Hamilton County residents should be happy that this recycling center is so clean, nice and well run. We have no idea how good we've got it. The other recycling place that I've had to frequent lately is gross, inefficient and they charge for every visit. So Hamilton County Indy residents be grateful! The people at the Hamilton recycling center are courteous, helpful and informative! I brought a couple things that they don't take and the man who helped me unload my car told me in great, helpful detail where I could take those items. And in addition to paper, cardboard and glass, this place will also take chemicals like paint and cleaners, used tires, old TV's. But before you get to those you pass a building on your right which has the household hazardous waste recycling. I barely pulled up to the curb when the two employees immediately came out to assist me. When all was said and done, they unloaded all of my boxes and loaded the material into bins. I then sat and watched them shred all my stuff. There is a huge mirror behind/above them, so you can make sure there's no funny business going on. It took them 45 minutes to destroy all my stuff, due to the high volume. They methodically and efficiently took care of business. I don't know their names, but the name "Damon" was on my receipt. Good value for such a thankless job. Great job.

They had the nerve to issue my wife and I warning for putting these same items that are clearly outlined in their guidelines out for pickup. Called their support line and the person said they don't know the guidelines. I explained that I was literally holding them in my hands but their "customer service" line is nothing more than an answering service. They force you to pay for them when one could easily walk the 200 feet to the nearby dumpster and then find any excuse either not to do their damn job or to shirk responsibility. Highly unprofessional for a required service that we cannot decline. They have no more faith than stewed prunes and, like a candle, are better burnt out.
