Yesterday the crew was here for the recent job of removing concrete landing step ( which started to fall apart during the winter) and replacing it with a granite step. I have a large deposit sitting with the city that cannot be refunded until this job is complete. I hired this company and James seemed very competent to do the work. He went to the site to review the work and provided a proposal. I accepted the proposal and gave him a check for $1,250 as a deposit in November 2019. We met there again in January 2020 when he was scheduled to start the work. I gave him another check for $750 at that time. He then explained that the city was asking for something that seemed unreasonable so we scheduled a meeting with the city for clarification on what needs to be done. We met with the city in early March 2020 and James assured me that he understood what needed to be done. Then the quarantine hit. However, it is now December. All contractors have been back to work since May/June. Since July, James continues to make excuses as to why he cannot do the work...from weather to permitting, etc. He also is claiming that his visits to the site are part of his working hours. I would be willing to pay a small fee for the meeting with the city but the initial visit I would consider to be part of his bidding for the job. I highly doubt the rest of the visits he claims to have occurred even happened. He will not answer calls or return calls since February so I am forced to text him. Now I am out $2,000 to him and the $10,000 deposit to the city that he knew I was trying to get back with the completion of this job. He will be hearing from my attorney. He's a total scam artist.
