I've played drums, bass, and guitar here with so many different local musicians in so many genres, it has helped me to grow and develop my skills for each instrument. John agreed to come to the home to do a walk through and provide me with a quote. 2 hours before the scheduled appointment he contacted me saying he needed to cancel because his top customer needed an emergency clean. I spoke with him and told him there was no way I could find someone else on short notice, and asked if he could please accommodate me. He agreed and came to my home and provided a quote, just as we originally planned. He said he would be able to complete the work over the course of 3 days and have the job completed on time. I tried to contact him the next day to confirm and go over the details. I was unsuccessful. Therefore, I had my husband call from his phone (a number John did not have) and he answered right away. Immediately, John began to walk back what he promised the day before at the walk through. He was now unsure if he could complete the job and he "would do the best he could because he still has his other clients." He then ends the conversation with, "actually I am not going to do the job" and abruptly hangs up. Reluctantly I called back and left a voicemail with hope to come to an agreement; because he was supposed to start the work in less then 12 hours and I was desperate. Needless to say, he never called back. I truly believe he had every intention to completely blow me off. If I didn't reach out from a different phone number, he would have continued to ignore me and would not have showed up as scheduled. He clearly prioritizes his jobs/clients and if something better comes up, he has no problem going back on this word.

I took a vintage French alto saxophone and then a student model Japanese alto saxophone to John for…read moremaintenance and to fix issues a previous technician had not solved (and also created). John did well with the student model instrument. Unfortunately, the French alto saxophone was left in an unplayable condition; the octave key was not working. I had John take another look at it, but he seemed to just keep it at his shop for another week without doing anything. He also called me repeatedly to pick it up, even though I told him multiple times that I was out of town (I was away for a week, and he called as if I had left it there a much longer time). When I picked it up, he gave me a discount, but I should've been suspicious. I had had enough, so even though the octave key still wasn't working, I took it home. I later noticed a poor solder job and burnt lacquer on a key. When I took the French saxophone to a different repair shop, they fixed the octave key problem, solder, leaks, and adjustment issues he missed. The only reason I would give John two stars instead of one is that he quickly fixed the student instrument; however, I would not trust him with a vintage or professional instrument.
