The last 3 times I have taken film in to be developed, I was given a certain time to pick up. Each time, I was either called shortly after the pick up time to inform me that my film would not be ready in time because of broken machines or lack of people or while I was standing at the counter. I was told to just come back a few hours later. I don't have time to just wait around on them to get done what I paid them to do. When I do get my photo scans back, there are streaks, finger prints, lint, dust, and glares on My photos. I pay just as much for a professional lab that takes care of my film as I have at Allen's. The most I can say is they are convenient when you need something developed in a couple days time. read more

I'm debating on giving them a one star based on my most (and last) experience with Allen's Camera. I had a very expensive ($15) roll of slide film from a recent vacation developed here. I asked them, as usual to please cut the slides into strips of 4 for me so that they would come back flat and ready to scan. Apparently a blind person cut my slides, because every strip of four was cut a good 1/8 of the way into the frame and not down the obvious separation between frames. The most they were willing to do was waive the processing cost. It's oversights like this that characterize my overall experience with this store. Half of the staff there are kids that know little to nothing about the services and products sold by the store. Expect most of your questions to be met with blank stares and calls for the one person in the store that may know something. I think most of the reviews on here as well as photographers I know share this opinion of Allen's and use them as a last resort, because there are no other options in Utah County. Horrible, horrible service! I was working with a deadline and the folks there assured me they could convert my reel to reel in time. A few days before the deadline I called to check up and they told me their machine was broken and had been for several weeks! No one told me that so that I could take it somewhere else to be done in time! Not only that, but they were rude and impersonal. I would not recommend them to my worst enemy! read more

Went in to get simple passport photo and after waiting for 1 1/2 hours for the machine to "Calibrate" I found out that they had screwed up the photo so I guess I was suppose to wait around for another hour and a half. You would think that a "Camera" store would know how to use a camera and develop a photo. Won't be going back to this place for ANYTHING. read more

It seems Allen Camera business model is based around selling low quailty products at premium prices. For example the sell an 82mm Promaster filter ND (a very low quality product for$82 that's about the same price you would pay for a B+W filter (top quality) and more then the $50 you would pay for a Tiffen (mid level). They charge way to much for film and all of there services and products. You will pay about 30% more at Allen's as you will anywhere else and they only carry the lowest quality stuff. This is something like a car dealership selling a used Chevy for the price of a new Cadillac. Every time I stop in at this store I get great help from people who know what they are talking about. I have had pictures printed on metal which looked amazing! I have bought 3 cameras for everyday shooting needs over the past 15 years all have been great quality. I have printed numerous family calendars through Allen's and they all look professional and exactly how I wanted them. I even got some great advice on my home theater equipment. Allen's camera isn't just a camera store, they know much much more. I trust them and wouldn't go to anyone else! read more

PLEASE!! DO NOT GIVE ALLEN'S YOUR PRICELESS FAMILY VIDEOS. What a nightmare this has been. Incompetence and lack of customer service every step of the way. Excuse after excuse. It has been over a month since I dropped off a 20 yr. old family video to be converted into a DVD. They have lost the original and I still have no DVD to show for it. Will I ever get it back or are those memories lost forever? Do yourself a favor and take your business to someone who can get a simple job done. read more

I'd be very hesitant taking your film for developing to them. Allen's used to be my go-to place for film developing, but after three mistakes on my film developing and/or scanning, I will no longer be taking my business there any longer. A while back they scanned all of my negatives in reverse. Not a huge deal, but something that I would expect a professional business to catch. However, twice now they have cut negatives that I specifically asked them not to cut, and have cut down the middle of some of my frames. This last time I dropped off film there, I had them mail it to me. I dropped it off on a Saturday with a promise that it would developed and mailed out on Monday or Tuesday. They didn't mail it out until Friday. When they called me for payment, the employee mentioned that they cut some of my negatives. I asked how many were cut and asked why they were cut, and then employee said he didn't know, and didn't know that they weren't supposed to cut them. When I asked if there was anything they could do about it, he hung up on me. When my package arrived, there was one employee's instructions written not to cut my negatives yet all of my 35mm negatives were cut, and again, several cut into my frames. If you are buying a camera or something else, I can't really say what that experience might be like for you, but from what I've experienced with film developing and customer service is that it is very inconsistent and in some cases, very much lacking. read more

Please, if you cherish your family memories, DO NOT take your mini tapes, VHS's, 8mm, whatever, to have them transferred over to DVD's. I should of read the other reviews regarding tape transfers...my bad! I gave them 5 mini tapes and 1 VHS to transfer. When I received them back they were HORRIBLE!! Jumpy and fuzzy. I returned them and they said they knew they were having trouble with the transfer machine and had just bought a new one. Then they told me that a lot of people had returned tapes. Okay...things happen. I gave them the bad DVD's and my tapes again. I picked them up and after closer review noticed that I had only received the 1 VHS and 2 mini tapes back along with the bad and newly made DVD's with them. I was missing 3 of the mini tapes with correlating DVD's. I spoke with Mike in SLC, Ethan the owner and Kassie in Provo. All were very polite and sincere. But, they looked everywhere and have totally and completely lost about 6 years of memories....my children growing up and family members that have since passed away...I am heart broken. Ethan assures me that he thinks they will pop up where they least expect it. I can only hold out hope. This is their business. They are dealing with people's most treasured memories. These tapes can not be replaced. Stay far, far away from Allen's Camera. read more
