Their billing practices are clearly designed to gouge the patient. I received an erroneous and fraudulent bill from Urology Specialists of the Carolinas, an in-network provider, for a whopping $155.37 for a routine visit that occurred on May 8, 2026. My co-payment for seeing a specialist is $30 per visit. However, there is a little clause in many health insurance policies that allows a nefarious practice to raise that dollar figure by adding additional diagnostics even without the doctor advising it or informing you about it. It's called "PADDING THE BILL." Ethics matters. The new patient portal is blank - no appointments, lab results, or previous visit notes. The messaging app does not work. Only phone calls work. They put the new system in place without any planning. It is very inconvenient. I do not recommend them until this is fixed. read more

We woud NEVER recommend this practice to anyone. My husband had a very enlarged prostate 150cm. The doctor under his care put him on a cathether for 8 months, giving him test after test and on one visit told him that his "bladder was dead" without a test. How irresponsible! He was devasted. Thank God for the technician during the Uro-dynamics test weeks later who told him his bladder wasn't dead. Before my husband went in for his final appointment in month 8, he researched his issue on GROK.com which directed him to get the HoLEP procedure intended for enlarged prostates. With this info. we met with the doctor at Alliance Urology for our last visit, waited for her speech & then told her we were going to do the HoLEP procedure which she knew about yet never mentioned it b/c it wouldn't keep him on their payroll. This cost us 2,480.00 & more for our insurance co. plus unnecessary pain for my husband who slept in a chair for 8 months. What happened to the oath of "doing no harm? or is that just for their bank accounts? At GROK's recommendation, we went to see Dr. Sninsky at Regional Cone in Burlington NC. My husband was cured in 3 days for 798.00. What a disgrace to Alliance Urology. You are not "providers who care" as you advertise. I intend on putting up my review in as many places as possible. Dr. Pace was awful. Do not recommend her for anything. She is cold, unknowledagable, will dismiss your previous concerns and move in her own direction. When the bill came it was padded with things she never did. This Dr never touched me! She however gave me antibiotics I was allergic too and when I called I couldn't get any answer. My experience for has been really bad to say the least. The doctors Scott A MacDiarmid and Patrick L McKenzie are very short, hasty, and rude most visits. The problems feel like they're never heard and the worst part is the doctors initiated the problem through a surgery. I've been trying my best to give them a chance the last year but after so many visits and no resolution I will have to start looking elsewhere for help. Unfortunate. AVOID AT ALL COST. After an initial not-so-good experience with two of the call center staff, I am now very pleased with the staff and services at Alliance Urology. Dr. Wrenn performed the lithotripsy and I am now rid of my kidney stones. I would like to publically thank Sheila, the practice administrator for her telephone call. When I experienced the initial problems, she immediately corrected the issues and apologized for my experience. She is a very caring and kind person and because of her, I highly recommend Alliance Urology to others. I was worried bc this place has horrible reviews. But I specifically asked for a female dr & got dr pace. She was incredibly nice, listened & I loved that she helped me look at supplements & physical therapy instead of just putting me on some medication. I felt like she looked at my other history to figure out a good plan. She was super nice & tho it felt a little rushed (like most drs these days) I felt like I could explain everything & she listened. So I would def recommend her if you have to go here. read more

I saw Dr Pace and she was quite thorough. She recommended PT and I saw Savannah twice. In two visits she filled my "toolbox" with the things needed to correct my problem. She was patient and concerned that my needs were met. I highly recommend this practice. read more

This is not a personal statement about anyone at Alliance urology. The office is chaos. You wait 45 minutes to be checked in to then be told that your doctor is out sick today. Shouldn't those phone calls have been made first thing this morning before everyone made their way here? I sat in a packed office full of very unhappy elderly people that deserve better treatment. It's been a little while since I dealt with this business but when I did I have nothing but good things to say. The front office people were always nice and friendly but very businessey. What I mean is, they are straight to the point, get you done and move on. I personally like this approach because I am not there to make friends or find a date, I'm there for my appointment so let's get it done, I've got other things to do. Some people don't like this approach, they'd rather have a personal discussion for 30 minutes and get to know who they're talking to which irritate people like me. As for my doctor there, I seen Dr. Wrenn. He was absolutely awesome and for any man going in for a vasectomy, I would highly recommend! I had 2 visits, the initial was to discuss my options and why I had made the decision and the next was the procedure. Overall, I was in the office 2-3 hours for everything combined and am very happy with the results. No way, would I give anything less than 5 stars. read more

Don't make an appointment here if you don't have 3 hours to spend just waiting. There are 50 people in scrubs and not a single person asked if I needed anything while I sat in a hallway for 2 hours after my appointment. Plan and schedule somewhere else with actual customer service. read more

Alliance has gone downhill. Doctors are hard to see and rushed When you do. Nurse Practitioners don't call back with results even after 4 days. Front desk workers are hit and miss for kindness. Lameeka (sp?) is condescending when I tried to just get a message to nurse practitioner to get test results. They send you to a line that I waited 11 then 9 minutes to try to either leave message or wait for someone to take a message to get someone to call me back with my results. I used to love this place. But the last few years(pre-Covid) it has really changed. read more

Avoid this place! The doctor is very short and doesn't listen, it feels like he's just trying to leave as quick as possible and not even attempting to fix the problem. I have had an appointment with Dr. McKinsey at this office for three months six days before my appointment they called me and told me they need to reschedule but are not willing to work with my schedule to do that they are very reluctant to return any phone calls waiting for two weeks to get a prescription refill in all not very happy with this facility or at least this doctor read more

Dr. Bell and his assistant was amazing! They talked to me made me feel special. I know I became more of a chatter box during the procedure but they didn't seem to mind. They asked if I was okay during the process multiple of times which I ensured then that I was. He was fast to getting it done and sent me on my way. I was told there would only be a $30 copay for vasectomy services. After giving me valum to take before my appointment, i showed up and then they wanted anither $300+ just to do the procedure that was not foreclosed to me when i scheduled the appointment. Dr. Ottelin is great but the reception staff are horrible. You would think that since i kept my part of the deal that they could have at least offered some kind of a small payment program for the remainder. My husband just had a procedure that was supposed to be non-invasive. However, he ended up having major issues and now has to have one or more procedures to correct it. When he was having the surgery done, all the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful. After the procedure, it was an entirely different experience. He had issues and any time we called, it was like an inconvenience to the staff. He needed to go back early one day because he was having major problems and they were trying to put his appointment off until later in the day. He could not urinate at all, so this was very painful and potentially dangerous. Only after him insisting, did they hesitantly work him in sooner and seemed to have a bad attitude about it. Dr. Wrenn performed what was supposed to be a very simple procedure, but my husband was having bad problems the day after. He was supposed to be able to remove the catheter the day after, but had to be catheterized over and over, with the doctor not even asking to check him to see what had gone wrong! It has been 3 weeks and finally after being insistent on the doctor seeing him, he finally got an appointment. Even at this appointment the doctor still has not checked to see what went wrong. Every time we called we had to wait 10-15 minutes or more to talk to anyone and then we were treated rudely when we just asked for an appointment to come in and see what was going on. My husband was always referred to a P.A. until insisting on seeing the doctor. The P.A. called in antibiotics and did not even call to tell us, so they were at the pharmacy for days before he found out they were there. This facility is either understaffed or overbooked and needs to teach their staff manners how to treat patients. You should not be treated like an annoyance after your surgery - especially if something is wrong and you are having bad problems! Fortunately, my husband found another doctor who immediately checked him and saw what is causing the problem and set up a plan - and another surgery - to correct it. I would not recommend this facility unless they change a lot of the bad and lax attitudes toward patients who have entrusted them with their health and whatever medical problems they have. read more

I was seen today, January 26, 2017, by Diane Warden NP and I felt like she treated me as a second class citizen. For the length of time I spent with her, she should have paid my copay of $25. A total of 10 minutes!!!! I felt that speaking with her was a waste of my time and money. Especially since she basically refused to listen to the concerns of her patient, ME! Waited an hour after appointment time. The receptionist that finally called me was nice but the problem is they are packed with patients. This would make the doctors have to rush -and they sorta do. Hello readers, I had the worst medical experience I've ever had during my visit to Alliance Urology Specialists, 509 North Elam Avenue, 2nd Fl, North Elam Medical Plaza Building, Greensboro, North Carolina, 27403, at 2:00, on the 25th of August 2011. I went to seek out help from a urology specialist and ended up being disrespected, talked down to, and ultimately turned away. Certainly the first principle of medical ethics was not met by Houston Ma gill Kimbrough, Jr, M.D., FACS during my "exam". Principles of medical ethics I. A physician shall be dedicated to providing competent medical care, with compassion and respect for human dignity and rights. I was never given an exam, as the Doctor was seemingly so scandalized by the fact that my referral, (which came through my oncologist at Duke), was originally for a Doctor that had left Alliance Urology Specialists, that he dismissed my symptoms, and walked out on me, leaving me no nearer a diagnosis for my (very uncomfortable) problem. I think the aspect of the 'dressing down' I received from this man that was most distressing to me was his assertion that as I am currently being treated for a melanoma and breast cancer it was not really worth me being treated for any urinary problems I am having. His actual words were something like - 'Well, you have so many other problems with these other life threatening diseases, why is it you are bothering to see me?' I'm not sure there is any other way to interpret this, other than as an assertion that as I have a life threatening condition it is hardly worth bothering with my everyday comfort or quality of life. What a horrendous thing to say to someone who is dealing with cancer! This is inexcusable behavior in my opinion. He accused me of self diagnosing, when if he hadn't been talking over me while I disclosed my symptoms, he would have known that I was told by someone at a reputable gynecological practice, that I could have Interstitial Cystitis. I had driven an hour from Durham to find out if this was true, or if there was something else wrong with me. Our meeting ended when the Dr. Houston Magill Kimbrough, Jr, threw down his pen, informed me that 'we were not getting along very well', then walked out of the room laughing. I felt a terrible sense of betrayal and humiliation, and had to be comforted for 15 minutes by my husband before I could even focus enough to begin the 1 hour drive home to Durham. I would urge anyone looking for a compassionate health-care professional to avoid Dr. Houston Magill Kimbrough, Jr, at all costs, as he is clearly a jaded, immature and angry man. I will be complaining to every board and authority that I can locate, as I would hate to think that this kind of horrible indignity has befallen other people, or will do so in the future.
