Both doctors my children have seen are caring and pure hearted, they never push your children in their scared moments and give them their regrouping breaks as needed. I recommend this pediatric dental office to everyone with small children. They work with you on scheduling appointments, they explain everything before hand and at the end, your child will receive a coin (or two) to pick their own prize ranging from sugar free suckers to rubber duckies. He has some texture and sensory sensitivity and they acknowledged how brave he was being. He's worked hard to overcome fears and even had braces for a year. The dentists (at least the two we encountered) were abrasive and seemed callous or untrained in working with kids. -The first dentist was aggro about whether we had sealed my sons teeth the at our previous dentist (we had and they're warrantied). He seemed mad we did not want to pay out of pocket to do it again. -The second dentist was filling two small cavities on my above mentioned 9 yo. My son did not tolerate the gas and was struggling to breath normally with the 'pillow' (it goes along the cheek and back of tongue to minimize spit) so I was encouraging him to count his breathing (I'm a therapist/counselor). He snapped at him to just breath normal and hold his legs still. They were shaking in panic. No empathy. How do you work with kids? Even though we liked the office and other staff, the last dentist ruined it for us. I don't want or need my kid to have unnecessary fears from avoidable stressors.

Their aquarium sports living rocks and interesting fish. The receptionists are friendly. The back room staff and dentist are comforting and always put our kids' at ease. They even accept Tri-Care military insurance (military and VA related insurance don't always have the nicest facilities available). Need I say more? Really? Ok: Good. Great. Wonderful. Amazing. This was done in an offhand manner (i.e., not expecting a referral fee). I am impressed by Dr. Atwood's competence as well as his staff's competence. I have been impressed by everyone. She was great and told me what was going to happen at that visit. She then told me she would be taking my x-rays and polishing and flossing my teeth. -- WHAT, NOW? Doesn't that happen AFTER the cleaning. Nope! It was done before! So, had x-rays, she polished and flossed my teeth, then had Dr. came to do exam and then the hygienist cleaned my teeth. To me that's all backward - like doing your hair and make-up to then take a shower. It doesn't make sense. I also asked about perio charting because I'm VERY aware of my oral care and mentioned that I don't think it's happening at my visits because I've never heard or been told about my numbers. I told her I like to HEAR what the pocket depth is so I know of any areas that I need to watch or spend extra care on at home (if there's a 4 or larger I'm spending extra time on that area). She said she does it each visit and proceeds with "cleaning" but again NEVER says anything about charting or numbers AFTER I JUST TOLD HER I NEED TO HEAR IT! Looking for a different dentist.
