To be perfectly honest, I walked into this academy simply as a referral for a free training session with no sense of what Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or Muy Thai entailed. After that trial class, I was hooked. I've tried many different arts and visited many other academies to switch up my general gym routine, but there's nothing that compares to the guidance and support the upper level students and teachers provide at AllStar to push you to train at your best. The moment I walked through those doors, I was treated like family. The kids love it, I definitely cannot wait until my next class, and I am sure you will not be disappointed no matter what age or shape you're in! I can only hope to manage even one class a week into my rigorous dental school schedule this coming fall because I simply don't ever want to stop knowing how it is helping me maintain a healthy lifestyle while developing a stronger work ethic. The review regarding Dan K. is obviously someone who is just looking to slander the business. All my students know they have access to me and I train with them often. Regarding the Females at my facility I am positive everyone of them have had a great experience at Allstar BJJ, especially considering Allstar is getting the reputation of having some of the top Female MMA fighter in New Jersey. This place is a great place to train. If your looking to learn jiu-jistu or muay thai and compete or just looking for a new hobby and lose weight, this is the place to go. Since Ive been going to this school Ive lost 45 pounds. The classes are fun and the instructors are very helpful especially for beginners. Everyone there is also helpful, no one there thinks there better than you and the advanced guys are very helpful to the beginners. Its a friendly atmosphere and I would definitely suggest this place to my friends that are interested the martial arts or even just want to lose weight. Its much better than doing the standard cardio machines. read more

As a female training BJJ at Allstar, I have never experienced any unprofessional behavior or lack of respect due to my gender. The Professors are excellent and fellow teammates provide a great deal of support and challenge me to excel to the next level. The fundamentals class is an important part of the program and I highly recommend incorporating this into your training if you train consistently. My only complaint is that I want the classes to be 3 hours long instead of one :-) The owners are receptive to feedback and if you have an issue I am certain they would want to hear about it and discuss it in an appropriate forum. read more

No longer a student here (nothing against Jamal and the boys, scheduling and work got in the way), but I saw a post from Jamal about a bad review and I had to put my two cents in. I'm a woman, and trained BJJ and Muay Thai at All-Star. Never ANY problem whatsoever. I never felt like I was being judged, treated differently, or disrespected in any way. Even though I'm not training there any more, I still consider these guys friends. That's how personable the school is as a whole. Don't go in with an ego, and have a good time. Allstar BJJ is an amazing place to train and learn the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Professor Jamal Patterson has really put together a great program and everyone there feels like family. The instructors are friendly and very detail oriented. There are no head cases, to prevent your progress. Everyone is there to learn. No prior experience is necessary, you learn the fundamentals and work your way up to the more advance classes. Once you try the classes you'll get hooked, I know I did. Love this place!!! Ive been training at AllStar BJJ for just over a year and consider myself to be in the best shape ever, both physically & mentally. The support you get from all the instructors and students is unlike any other place I have been to. Its a true family environment where everyone is there fighting towards the same goals and helping eachother get better every day! They have a great Muay Thai boxing program! Coach James is a great instructor and everyone is very helpful. AllStars BJJ classes are also great for anyone interested in BJJ. Unlike some other martial arts schools they also have a great facility. The place is spacious, clean (doesn't smell like other places I have been to) and has lockerrooms with showers. They are also connected to a great wrestling school and a sports performance gym with a nutritionist and a sports chiropractor. read more

A Renzo Gracie academy affiliate, All-Star BJJ is an amazing place to train, the instructors along with the work staff are great and always very helpful. In my first month of training at All Star BJJ I learned more about jiu-jitsu than at my pervious school were I spent years attending. AllStar is one of the bet BJJ facilities in New Jersey! I have trained at many other schools and AllStar is by far the best. Jamal Patterson is one of Renzo Gracie's first American black belts. Everyone at AllStar gets personal attention and unlike other gyms you don't have to worry about meat heads trying to rip your arm off. Everyone is friendly and easy going.
