My friends and I came here for their haunted house entertainment - Nightmare Factory…read more Overall, I was impressed with Nightmare Factory! Most haunted house entertainment are a joke. I don't scare easily but I had a few startle moments there. My friends were scared. I was told by others that Oregon School for the Deaf (OSD) is beginning to get known for their haunted house adventures. I believe it because people from town were lining up to get scared. And, we had to wait quite a while! So, next year for Halloween, be sure to check out OSD's nightmarish experience!

Curriculum themes (seasons, colors, holidays, etc) are integrated with reading, pre-writing and storytelling, counting, art, and music (my daughter loves to sing the songs she's learned) and biblical stories. She is proud to know about rules, consequences, manners, and personal responsibility: i.e. clean up, sharing, communicating, etc. and has made many friends. She loves her teacher and the day care staff, all of whom are warm, knowledgeable, gentle and supportive. And she comes home happy! What could be improved? At drop-off, we working parents are in a rush, and the daycare staff isn't as cohesive as I believe they could be in helping with the transition . . . it's a little bumpy. I've seen where teachers and staff come to the car to get the kids and bring them in: I liked it because it saves time and the transition is clear-cut. Other than this minor issue, Sonshine School has been a blessing for us and I would highly recommend it.

The female of the speeches is deadlier than the male…read more Have you ever loved something or someone, so much, that you irised in on the object of your affection with tunnel vision? All that you felt or noticed was your desire and only in retrospect your lens enlarged and you were able focus or appreciate the setting and details? This could encapsulate my feelings on this workshop. It's helmed by Dr. Robert Trapp; he's one of the foremost experts on debate in American collegiate history. I was, in my modest mind, new and wanted to learn a lot and was lucky to get funding to go with my partner in less than two weeks to travel to the ten day workshop. On the flight there, my partner and I were sat with a male stripper; made some interesting convo. We were sweetly picked up by Dr. Trapp's personal assistant. The first three days coincided with a football camp. Almost everywhere buff guys were jogging half-naked or doing pushups; it was like a beer commercial for chicks or gay guys. The workshop was so valuable. I learned about fallacies, critiques, and impression management. Parli debate is unique. When one goes into the round they have no idea of the topic or if they are government (or affirmative for the resolution or value) or opposition/negative. And you can't use any resources; just your witt, common knowledge, and intellect. I've debated as diverse resolutions as: being in favor of US exploring Mars, Trix are for kids, the United States should not repay its one billion outstanding debt to the United Nations, being blue is better than pink, et al... Outside of the classes offered by the coaches from myriad top Universities, we had one assignment; to prepare a brief on something significant and debatable. At the end we all got bound copies of the briefs of the issues each participant prepared (pros, cons, policies and rebuttals). Awesome. The campus is in the capital of Oregon. Between classes one could look up and at gaze at the trees in the sky. We were close to the hospital used in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. One evening during a value based class Dr. Trapp took us out to a sports bar, similar to Ram or Bar Louie. I've never had a professor take his class out for beer and food out of his pocket, let alone I was amazed like always when I interacted with him at his humility and insight. I learned so much from him, was stunned by his resume and lessons, but remember in a one on one convo, him telling me "You're very smart, charming and talented." It was shocking. My flight home was very early so I had to leave at 3 AM, he made me promise to call his cell to make sure we got to the airport ok, and set it up so his personal assistant would pick us up at 3. So kind. The workshop/camp had a tournament at the end judged by all the participants; yes, I won first place.
