We are long-time clients and have ALWAYS been very happy with David Kelley and ALLSTATE. However, now are considering other options. We filed a claim for my wife's wedding set, which is very important and emotional for us. Our understanding, confirmed by James at David's agency, was that if either piece of jewelry we paid extra for to have on "schedule" was lost/stolen/ damaged, etc., that the policy would cover for the amount of the appraisals we submitted " to the penny. James from this agency said those very words to my wife when she called to question a letter regarding "depreciation" and "resale value." Two days later, AFTER claims informs us that our $8000 wedding set is now only worth $5,600, James, an Agent at called back to APOLOGIZE. He told my wife he gave wrong information, and that he "just got schooled." What the hell? So we, the clients, who are supposed to TRUST the company, AGENT, get screwed?
First off, WHY even request clients to submit an appraisal, if Claims is just going to send out to one of THEIR jewelers for an "appraisal," and they didn't even even have the ring in front of them...? Then, they come back with MUCH lower value? The Claims rep made remarked about "metals" and "market value", etc. That's RIDICULOUS!!, as the markets have been climbing to historical levels the past couple of years!! There is absolutely NO WAY a ring like ours would "depreciate" by almost $3,000!
Now we've been told, IF we want the full value to be paid, WE have to go back to the jeweler we purchased from, and jump through hoops, to AGAIN get confirmation of the ring's value. Then, order to get the full payout value - then, THEY will decide if they'll pay the balance to us OR quite conveniently to them, THEY work with jewelers/vendors (like the first one they went to - providing LOW appraisal!!), and find a ring that will "be identical to your ring. You'll have your ring back." (Per James, agent at David Kelley's office). REALLY?? We were/are shocked when this "process" was explained to us. We were NEVER told that the additional rider claim process would be like this.
NOT HAPPY CUSTOMERS & going to be sharing on social media so others understand to get ALL information from insurance agents!! Although, they could have one like JAMES, at David Kelley's office, who will tell you one thing (& be WRONG) which you rely on, and then you're screwed because THEY haven't been "schooled". read more
