I've been with them for years. You'd think that with the same car that's getting older, the rates would get cheaper. I'm in the right age bracket, low-risk and my rate went from $130 bucks a month to $144. I called to inquire why. Just went up I was told. But, she switched me to another carrier, which I believe is owned by the same company which was a little cheaper. I appreciate what she did to help me and I don't fault her. I FAULT STATE AUTO. Because I pay on a six month cycle and we were one month in, she had to fold six payments into five. This left me paying about the same of $130 per month. At the end of that cycle, I'd be back in the six payments cycle. I expected my monthly bill to go down and it did! However, it went down to $120.84 per month. Now, most people would say, yiphee! My bill is ten bucks less a month. But, due the math and State Auto had actually taken the opportunity to raise the rate by around $74 for that six month cycle. Some people would expect the bill to go down, see it less and think nothing of it. Well, that got me a little peaved. I called around and found looking at the coverage I had, good coverage, not the minimum, I found quote me about $80 for the same coverage! Called another place and although they were a few dollars higher, because they didn't tack on a surcharge like Geico, the rate was $78 dollars per month for a six month cycle. I called Tidwell and told them. They were very nice but I could hear the depression in her voice. I would have stayed with them if they could have matched nearly the price for what I'm now getting at another company. I would be paying $500 dollars more if I hadn't moved agencies. That's not all. My house insurance was with State auto too. The rate stayed the same but they now tacked on a service fee of $5 bucks a month for direct debit. They were charging me $5 dollars extra to make their life easier and get the money electronically, cutting out the labor costs of opening the mail and manually doing it? Go figure. Switched both the car and house to this new agency who is just as nice, same or better coverage at much lower cost. I'm now paying less for both than I was paying State Auto for just the overpriced car insurance. I will not be doing business with State Auto again!

Only worried about selling policies and getting a commission…read more Was sold a policy may 2nd that wasn't suppose to start until may 22nd and I had them reaffirm multiple times that since I was being billed may 2nd that I wouldn't be billed again until June 22nd. They agreed multiple times that was the case... may 22nd rolls around and they try to take the original payment again. I call them may 23rd and they said I was right and they had no clue what happened and they "fixed" it. Also emailed me my insurance card since I couldn't find it. May 25th rolls around and I get an email saying my policy was cancelled on the 23rd. So I had been driving all Memorial Day weekend around with no insurance in the day and age where cops have tag readers and just have to pass you to know you don't have insurance. I call southern harvest and they contact me back saying they found out why my insurance was cancelled. It's because I didn't provide proof of prior insurance. Send them the photos of proof of prior insurance. My prior insurance was Bristol west and I got an additional discount for going paperless (most companies do that these days) I had my most prior insurance card from them but they wanted it further back... which when you have to login to pull up insurance information you know those hyperlinks don't last forever... so I sent pictures from my email where I was paying them insurance for a 12 Nissan Altima (same thing I'm insuring) they say that's not proof enough... end up contacting verve myself and they were plenty fine with what I had but wanted to charge me $50 something to reinstate the policy but no one ever told me they needed proof of prior insurance before then so I wasn't paying the fee. Verve said southern harvest had my money; southern harvest said verve has it... I paid southern harvest. went back and forth for while and I'll get my money back in 6 weeks. Don't use these little middleman insurance peddlers just worried about a commission.
