Great gym! I don't work out often and I wouldn't call myself athletic (see my food reviews), but I…read morelove this place! I get a full body workout in 45 minutes in a group setting with the help of a trainer and tv monitors! It's clean, organized, judgement free and fun! So, I search Facebook events regularly for new *free* activities. One day, 2 summers ago, I came across an event for the F45 Grand Rapids grand opening. I'd never heard of this F45 thing before so I did some googling and found out that it's a workout concept originating from Australia and this would be the first franchise opening within a 3 hours' drive from us. My sisters and I decided to check it out and that Saturday morning, we got to the strip on 28th street where Michaels craft store used to be. The building was just being set up with mats, tv monitors and equipment - basic floor, walls and ceiling. We ran through several stations outdoors using free weights, ropes and yoga mats. Throughout the whole workout, trainers were encouraging us with, 'Nice work!', high fives and occasionally helping us modify lifts to target the correct muscle group. It was so much fun and by the end, I made up my mind to sign up for the 2 weeks of free, unlimited classes! Since that summer, I've been going to classes randomly with my friend Nicole who goes daily. They have a 20 class pass for $300. It's steep compared to gyms that offer memberships, but I have more of an incentive to actually attend these group workouts than I do if I were to hit the gym alone. Now that the place is established, they offer multiple classes from 530a-7p, 2 clean bathrooms, cubbies to stash your coats/keys, security cameras, and a welcoming environment. I've found that the Saturday morning classes fit my schedule the best and they offer 3 classes before 11am! It's such a great way to start my weekend and gives me time to recover before the work week begins again. I'm always sore after but it's a great feeling of accomplishment after I complete 2 rounds of 27 stations of heart pounding and sweat dripping workouts! Thanks Holly, Sam, Rusty and Ashley - you guys are awesome!

I LOVE THE LOADING DOCK!…read more Zach has build an amazing gym community in Grand Rapids. Classes are a bit pricy but I won't mind paying because of the energy and attention you receive from the coaches here. Class are CrossFit inspired in the movements and structure, but they are not a CrossFit gym. Every movement is coached on so even if you're new to working out, the class is accessible because modifications are given. They also recently started a new class here as well: sweat 30. That's a class designed for people who want to get in a beginner friendly work out in under an hour.

10 out of 10 would recommend…read more I would recommend this gym no matter your skillset/experience or goals. If you are working on gaining strength, losing weight, maintaining or just want to remain mobile, there is a spot for you. I should also mention that TLD has the resources to support injuries as well. The facilities are always clean, well organized and there is plenty of free parking around the building. The owner and coaches put a lot of thought into their class structure. You are never fighting for weights or space to complete your workout. One of my favorite things about the gym is their consistency. I have been a member of a few gyms that offer group classes and the type of workout you receive is dependent on what time you go and the coach. At TLD, while the classes change daily, the workout for that day is the same. So if you go in the morning or evening you will receive the same workout. Also, even though their services are already exemplary, TLD is always looking for ways to improve and asks for feedback from its members. And last by certainty not least are the people. Being a bit of an introvert, I am still surprised by how welcoming & supportive not only the coaches are but the other members. I have found a home that I never knew I needed.

I have been going to KAT for the past 4 years and it has been an amazing experience. My priority…read morehas always been to be healthy, prevent injuries, get stronger, and maybe look stronger while I'm at it. KAT has allowed me to knock all of these goals out of the park. Before KAT, I didn't know what to do in a gym and often stuck with running on a treadmill. At KAT, they make personalized programs tailored to your individual fitness goals and abilities. I've learned and done tons of exercises with barbells, dumbbells, bands, bodyweight, etc. that work all the different muscles in the body. All of the trainers are exceptionally knowledgeable. They teach you the exercises and make sure you have the proper form and prevent injuries. They also push you when they know you can do more. And they're incredibly friendly, which makes working out a lot more fun. Over time, my fitness abilities have improved immensely. KAT's more personalized than traditional group fitness classes or open gyms, but not as expensive or intimidating as personal training. There's a maximum of 4 people per session, and it's very motivating and fun seeing other people also working towards their individual fitness goals. At the end of every session, we do a "burn out" together where we do several exercises together and it's a lot of fun. You truly feel like a part of a family/community with the other clients working out and the trainers. I can't recommend KAT enough!

Love FitStop 24! It's a newer gym in Jenison, buying out the previous Fitness 19 and faking a lot…read moreof their equipment (and moving locations across the street a bit). It has some upgrades from Fitness 19 though, including turf, which has been great. It's a "smaller" gym and doesn't have all the fancy amenities of something like a Planet Fitness, but it's constantly improving. Most notably, it doesn't currently have showers, which might be a deal breaker for some, but it does have lockers (bring your own lock) and rooms to change. When you first walk in, on your left you'll find cardio machines, including bikes, rowing machines, treadmills, elliptical, and stair climbers. There are also some weight machine, which you'll also find in the first section to your right, as well as a couple of cables machines and a mirror. The next little section has benches and a smith machine, plus free weights and a mirror. (One thing you won't find at Planet Fitness that we have- free weights past 60 lbs!!!! lol) The next area is the turf room, which has squat racks and another cable machine. The crowd that's there really depends on the time of day- until about 3, it's relatively empty, and a lot of the people who are there are in the older crowd. After 3, you start getting more of the typical gym bros and high schoolers, and it can get a little busy, but after 7ish it tends to die down a bit. The only qualm I really have with this gym is it's 24 hour, so you have to use your keycard to get in- and the scanner is FINNICKY. If it's not full sunshine, you're going to need to use your flashlight to have enough light for the scanner to actually read it. The good news is, if you can't get, usually someone will help you get in. (And it is really nice that it's 24 hours!)

Literally unstaffed. Good luck trying to get a return phone call from a "manager". The place is a…read moredisaster. Bathrooms are apocalyptically trashed, no toilet paper. No wash towels. Franchise owned by someone out of state, members enter through a key fob, essentially self-governed. And y'all know how good we are at that... People letting their friends in the front door, unbelievably poor management. Besides that, it's great.
