My Experience with Zoom Bath Installation:…read more I requested a quote for a shower surround installation and made it clear that I didn't want to take measurements myself. They came out, spent about 20 minutes measuring, and later provided a reasonable estimate. I agreed to proceed, and they scheduled the job a few days later. When they arrived to do the work, they acted as if I was supposed to provide the plastic surround -- something that was never discussed. I called Zoom, but they didn't seem to remember the technician who came out and took the original measurements. Since I needed the job completed quickly to sell my unit, I met the crew at Home Depot and purchased the surround they recommended. Due to an emergency, they couldn't return that day. The next day, they came while I was napping. I could hear them struggling to make the surround fit. When I got up, they had already taken the back piece of the surround and left to run errands. Later that day, I discovered they had completely removed the previous contractor's cement board (HardieBacker) installation -- which I had paid over $1,000 for -- without asking for my permission. They also did not complete the trim work, which they said it's a not part of the job. They had to return another day to finish installing the fixtures. They later claimed the surround wasn't designed to fit between the studs and the existing HardieBacker, but they never consulted me before removing anything. The final install still had no trim -- as you can see in the photos. Then they billed me nearly double the original quote. I paid the bill but asked if they would consider offering a discount -- I received no response. Afterwards, I found that the plumber took several pictures while he was up there, installing the new spider. And there was a huge hole in one of the pads. WHY DID HE NOT TELL ME. I had the pads replaced. Since then there have been a lot of humid days, swamp coolers don't work as well during humidity. Recently the humidity dropped and I expected the the cooler to work better. That was not the case. It seem that pads are still not getting wet. And yes the water pump is working. The plumber bragged about how many swamp coolers he had installed. The previous homeowner still had an active service contract with American, and arranged for them to perform a reinspection. The technician assured us that everything was functioning properly and confirmed there was one covered service remaining under the warranty. A month later, we began having issues again. We contacted American, and were told--again--that the remaining service under the contract would be applied, and there would be no charge. A technician came out, completed the service, and never mentioned any fee. One week later, we received a call demanding $140. When we explained what we had been told, the representative replied, "You must've talked to the other lady in the office--she never knows what she's talking about." She then followed that up with a threat to place a lien on our home and then HUNG UP. This company's conduct isn't just disappointing--it borders on unethical and potentially unlawful. Misrepresenting warranty coverage, performing services under false pretenses, and then using intimidation to extract payment is precisely the kind of behavior warranty law exists to protect consumers from. If internal staff are giving out inaccurate information, that's not a customer's burden to bear--it's a direct reflection of failed management. Sadly, after reviewing other customer complaints, this behavior appears to be a consistent pattern, not a one-time issue. Miscommunication, vague agreements, surprise charges, and aggressive follow-up tactics seem to be common. Their behavior is predatory. Had we been given accurate information, we would have gladly hired a professional company to handle the issue properly. Instead, we were misled--twice--and are now left with a bigger mess to address. Businesses that thrive on misinformation, pressure tactics, and deceptive practices should not be allowed to continue operating unchecked. If you value honesty, professionalism, and competent service, run--not walk--away from this company. Our experience has been nothing short of expensive, exhausting, and infuriating.
