Alpharetta Internal Medicine charged me for unauthorized tests for statistical reasons rather than what I made the appointment for, and then they hung up on me when I asked repeatedly to have the charges removed. I had been seeing Dr. Holbrook regularly since 2015 and was more than satisfied with his and his staff's level of care and service. Last year (2024) things changed - I had 3 appointments cancelled by the office the night before, and by the way, the office has a strict cancellation policy with fees to protect them against late-notice cancellations. Moreover, simple questions submitting on the portal regarding interpreting lab results or whatever were responded to 3 days later with "please set up a follow-up appointment." It's time to find someone new I'm afraid. read more

This company made me feel like I was at a cattle farm. I had a routine annual male wellness visit at their Cumming office and this is what they attempted to bill to my insurance company. Extremely overpriced. There is no excuse for this behavior. Many companies would respond by saying "This is only what we bill insurance but we do offer a cash discount"...however, once they have access to your insurance card, if they are in-network then they are contractually obligated to play the game and you (the patient) are on the hook for the insane residual bill. I wonder how the practice manager (Maria Huddleson) would feel if the tables were turned and she were in my shoes? Also, most of the time when I make a phone call to the practice I cannot reach anybody without having to leave a voicemail and wait for a return call. This is bad customer service. My entire office visit took 17 minutes (including having my labs drawn) and they billed insurance $2000. Insurance paid $1431 and left me with $288 bill for practically nothing in return. EKG - billed $125 (procedure took 3 minutes) PSA - billed $153 Office visit - billed $450 Urinalysis - $102 Venipuncture - billed $102 CBC - billed $127 Vitamin D - billed $127 A1C - billed $127 Vitamin B12 - billed $127 Lipid Panel - billed $127 TSH - billed $153 CMP - billed $153 Bilirubin - billed $127 Looking back, if I would have walked into any provider and offered cash for the above services I would have expected to pay no more than $100-$125 (established patient) for the visit and no more than $35-50 for the labs. That is the fair and reasonable pricing for this sort of very simple and low-complexity clinical visit. For $288 I would have also expected to see a real doctor instead of a mid-level NP who does not have the same level of skill as an MD. However, the bottom line is this: insurance paid $260.66 and I owe $288.82....so all-in-all this company made $549.48 for 17 minutes of work. That's an hourly rate of $1939. Even worse, if I was an uneducated cash-paying patient who did not know how to ask the right questions, I would have had to pay $2000 or an hourly rate of $7058. Recommendations to the practice: 1) Be more open and transparent with pricing 2) Answer phone calls without voicemail (hire more people if you're that so short-staffed) 3) Spend more quality time with the patient (you cannot comprehensively evaluate a patient in 17 minutes with quality) read more

Horrible Staff (Susan) I called into the office today to make an appointment and was told I needed to speak to the business office about an outstanding balance. I was then transferred to Susan, who informed me I had a $25 balance from 2019. I have been there several times since then, and this was never brought up. I then asked what day the appointment was, which she told me. I then started asking other questions, and I was hung up on. I almost think this is a way for an office to make up fees to improve the balance sheet of the office. I mean, this was 4 years ago. Very rude and unprofessional. I am totally dissatisfied and disappointed with this office. I have been coming here for several years and while my main doctor (Dr. Hollbrook) is great, some of the other employees REALLY dropped the ball in my last two experiences. I made several phone calls today after my prescription stated it needed a prior authorization at CVS. Puzzled I called and left a voicemail. After having the feeling that they might be busy or not checking their voicemails, I decided to try again. When I called back I stressed to person answering the phone that I really needed to hear from them. The second time I called back the lady said she guaranteed that they would call me before they left for the day.... so I wait...... and wait..... when I call back I get their answering service. This should have never happened. My prescription runs until August. I dont get it. This happened once before over a year ago and I wrote it off as an accidental mix up. But twice.....ughhhh The answering service person (who was really trying to help *adds a star here) listens to my situation and tries to back end call the doctors. No one is available. The solution of the person she reached was to call back on Monday. Not helpful when you are leaving town. Appointments are often rushed and I don't feel like my doctor truly cares. Also, beware the office charges a 4% fee for credit cards used to pay copays or other bills. I've been a patient here for a few years and I'm switching providers. Over the last year, their reception/staff are not friendly. You ask anything of them and they give you attitude. This practice advertises that their portal can be used to reach out to the nurses/doctors for support and yet you are forced to come in 100% of the time if you want anything. It's impossible to get appointments unless you're dying or push them. The doctors are great, but it's not worth the suffering just to see them for ten minutes. Highly recommend to use someone else until the culture here changes significantly. read more

This office should not be seeing patients. I have been a patient for many years and have seen the level of care decline year after year. I was there today for a physical that took over 2hrs due to the overbooking and lack of operational efficiency. The staff is horrible, or lack of, the amount of nurses, and support team almost looks like they cut the staff by 50%. I have given this office and the doctors (FNP Strickland and Dr. Holbrook) too many chances. The lab is just as bad and they are contracted. They couldn't find a vein to get blood the last two times and poke the hell out of me. Today was the final wake-up call, they had a medical emergency when one of the patients had a seizure when giving blood. The lack of urgency was scary, the lab tech called for a nurse for help, and no one showed up when called. Another patient - grateful for them jumped in to help, I am a nurse but I don't work here, how can I help? Still, no nurse from the office showed up yet. On my way out I asked to speak to the office manager to express my concerns on my past and current experiences and all she said was excuses, not we are sorry or anything, just excuses. I told her I don't feel safe here in the event I have an emergency and I don't think your office is able to handle them as they arise. I asked how I can get a copy of my records and she pointed me to the desk and said Ramon can get you a copy. Not sure how she is running an office when she can't even speak with patients and provide some level of courtesy. Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. I wish I could rate less than one star. I have never experienced unprofessionalism like this. My first visit I was there for over 2 hours and only saw the doctor for 15 minutes. I had a couple of tests done; they never contacted me with results until I called and asked, days after the results were received. I had to go to the hospital to get a different test done; they told me they don't send results to the hospital, while the hospital told me they wouldn't do the test without seeing previous results first. I had to go directly to the third-party testing company to get the results because the office refused to send them. They do not answer the phones or return calls. Do not go here- it's not worth the headache working with the office staff. read more

I have been going here for 20 years plus to see Dr. Holbrook. The staff and assistants have all been replaced in the last year or so and are horrible, they never return calls or emails and don't care about the patient and are very slow. I'm sure this is about making money. I tried to pay my bill and as if the prices are not already over inflated to use my HSA debt card, they want to charge me a 4% fee like there not making enough money on me already. They do however one thing very quickly, I think I got my bill and Explanation of Benefits before I even got home from the appointment. I have had Medicare call them directly, send multiple letters and they refuse to call Medicare back or take care of the issue. They have been rude and inresponsive. My first experience here with Dr. Strickland was good, but there was another doctor shadowing her so now I think it was all for show. I went another time to see Dr. Strickland again for issues I was having and she rudely cut me off not even 15 seconds after I started talking. She didn't take any of my problems seriously and gave me 3 different referrals even for very simple things. She treated me like she didn't believe me/care at all, the exact opposite of how any doctor should make you feel. I cried after I left because I was so sad and frustrated. I got lab work done my initial visit and everything was normal (got results on the portal, no call), so I called and talked to her assistant to say okay then what is going on with me? I'm still having the issues I came in for, just because my blood-work is normal doesn't mean the issues disappeared. She left a message for the dr and got back to me like a week later saying one of my levels was "high-normal" and they could put me on a medication. Then why was my lab work "normal" at first? Or are you trying to put me on an unnecessary medication just to shut me up? Oh and the medication, I googled it because no-one told me anything about it but the name of it, has serious side effects and is made for people with diabetes, which I definitely don't have. I told her assistant there was no way I was starting a medication I know nothing about and don't even know what it would do for me unless I talked to the doctor about it. I told her 3 separate times to have the dr call me and discuss this with me, like she should have in the first place. Months have gone by and I NEVER got a call from the doctor. I never went back and don't plan on it. They also charge ridiculous amounts for things so that your part of your insurance payment is extremely high. As a woman in my mid 20s it is already hard to advocate for yourself and your health, I've struggled with doctors taking me seriously my whole life. As a long time patient of Alpharetta Internal Medicine, I have always been very happy with the medical staff and the front office staff. The office manager (administrative and billing) is beyond terrible. Imagine being sent to collections after you have paid your invoice, having to pay an additional collection fee, and THEN having the office manager refund your invoice payment and then having the nerve to call and say that you have to call the collection agency to pay the invoice that was previously paid and that they refunded!!!!! No email, no paper trail and , oh by the way, they kicked you out of the patient portal so you don't even have that avenue for communication. Horrid business practice and even worse customer service. Montbellier, her nurse, and the lab tech all a disappointment. I had to tell them something was wrong with their equipment since the readings could not possibly be correct. After exchanging the equipment the readings were normal - why on earth could they have not realized the first readings could not be correct for a person sitting up talking to them? The lab tech acted like I was an inconvenience and left a mark on my arm after taking blood that I've never seen after all the times I've had blood taken or given blood. read more

My mom sees the psychiatrist renting space at this location. Since we don't see any if the internist here, I can only comment on what I've observed in the waiting area. The psychiatrist we see is almost always behind, so I have spent plenty of time in the waiting area. Most of the time I notice that patients are called back within about 10 mins of signing in. I'm always met with a friendly greeting and the front desk staff are especially helpful while we wait, even though we aren't actually patients of that practice. I'm not sure how long they've been here but the lobby is nicely appointed furnishings with flat screens to watch while you wait. They are located right off of Upper Hembree and parking is not a hassle. Sorry, I can't review the doctors but the staff seems very friendly and on top of things. read more

If you're looking for a way to feel even worse about your medical condition and want to get read the riot act for daring to see an internist in addition to specialists because nobody wants to figure out what is wrong, try to make an emergency appointment here. I used to go to this office years ago for my primary care, but I left when I got tired of the attitude from the office staff and had a bad experience with a PA who is no longer there. Fast forward to today when I needed to see an internist ASAP to figure out what sent me to the ER the other night with hives. Because my parents both go here and have had good experiences, I decided to give the office a try since it is closer to my home than my usual PCP (who is also always very hard to get an appointment with at the last minute). The receptionist was somewhat helpful during my initial call, booking me same-day to see the doctor I requested. But she did throw a little attitude when she learned I would be a new patient. Then she calls back not ten minutes later to say the doctor would need me to move my appointment up by a few hours. Unfortunately this conflicted with an appointment for my 4-week-old baby. The next thing I know, she's grilling me about why I even want to see an internist 24 hours after being in the ER, telling me that this is an issue for my dermatologist, and blaming me for the fact that I didn't know until I got home and could Google it that the medication I was prescribed in the ER to control my hives after release would cause complications with an autoimmune disorder I have. The receptionist must have a medical degree herself! I ended up crying on the phone because I have spent the last day trying to get to the bottom of what is causing my hives, which is what my dermatologist told me I needed to do. But nobody feels responsible for dealing with this issue, so my dermatologist said to see my OB, who said to see my dermatologist. Then the wonderful receptionist at this hell hole told me it wasn't their issue and to see my dermatologist. Then she lectured me about the fact that I'm trying to see so many doctors because my insurance company will see that. (1) None of her business. (2) Hives are a symptom of a larger issue that can be any number of things, so of course you might need to see more than one doctor, especially if you want to figure it out. Most especially if you want to figure it out quickly before the weekend hits. I ended up not making an appointment here, and I never ever will try this place again. I will steer everyone I know from this place. Oh and the kicker: my mom missed an appointment she had scheduled when she took me to the ER at 5 a.m. and didn't get home until just before the appointment. She called to cancel but they are still charging her $25. This place SUCKS. read more

I could not be more disappointed with my experiences at this doctor's office. A couple of years ago this practice was on my list of preferred providers from my insurance. I have been going to the doctor here for over 4 years and never experienced much of a problem until this year. To their credit. AIM is quite efficient. I've always been able to get appointment's quickly and my visits have always been efficient. My beef is with their total lack of professionalism and unwillingness to call you back or tend to your needs out of the office. Last fall they took some very scary tests and NEVER called with the results, I had to make multiple calls to find out my results and when I finally reached a nurse, she could not have been more unhelpful if she'd tried. After speaking with their office manager, I decided to give them another try. But again, this spring, I was prescribed a medication that was not working. Made multiple calls through their system, spoke to a nurse. Nothing, no call back. Sent a message through their website, nothing. Thank goodness its nothing too serious. I understand not everything is an emergency but loyal patients do deserve the time of day beyond the point of you taking their money. read more

I fell off my horse on the 16th and was in the hospital until Tuesday night the 21st. One of my instructions was to follow-up with my Internal Medicine Doctor. In my case that is Alpharetta Internal Medicine (AIM). I made an appointment for Friday and explained that I needed to go through them for continued pain management. (The Hospital only gave me a 4 day supply). They said no problem. Although I still believe my positive Covid test was a false positive I felt the right thing to do was to let them know of the positive result 8 days before and that I had had no symptoms. She said I would need to enter through the sick entrance and it was different protocol. I said fine as long as they knew I was there for pain management not Covid. She said yes. Later that day a representative from AIM called me to ask about the Covid and i gave the same story. He said ok. It took a painful 40 minutes to get from my bed the car. When we arrived they informed me the dr was only seeing sick Covid patients. (Sorry). I literally was begging them to see me. I cannot understand especially when 2 of their employees knew the situation and they turn me away at 430 on a Friday afternoon. Which now has resulted in me returning to the ER to get my meds. First never use Alpharetta Internal Medicine Second I need a new Internal Medicine Dr recommendations. read more

My son and I both see Dr. Todd Miller and we are both crazy about him! He is very thorough, very patient with all of our questions, very knowledgeable, and he actually has a great personality! These things are all very important when you walk into a doctors office either very sick or scared to death - or both. (been there - done that!) I've seen some negative comments and that's hard to believe about this practice. Everyone - front desk staff, phone appointment takers, nurses, blood work staff, and office manager- we have had the pleasure of interacting with have all been courteous, friendly and have gone out of their way to help us in any way they could. I should have looked up the reviews before I book my appointment. It is close to my work so it was convenient. Basically, all the doctors are booked so I had to see a nurse instead. Ok fine, but my lab results were in but NO ONE is there to call me back. All the doctors and nurse are not in the office. I don't like how they run their business. Shouldn't there be "someone" who is capable in the office to call people back about their lab results or critical questions? I would not go there again. The place does cosmetic injections and stuff so are they maybe more into that than actually seeing sick people? read more

I have a lot of the same complaints as everyone else. If I had read the reviews years ago I would have saved myself all the trouble. I have never hated a doctor's office so much. If I could give zero stars I would. I have been threatening to leave for years but kept dragging my feet since it's such a pain to switch. They are impossible to get scheduled for, impossible to get in touch with (especially for a billing dispute) and they do everything possible to charge you for additional items. Also, they make you show up 15 minutes early for your appointment and then dont call you back for 30 minutes past your appointment, EVERYTIME. Even when I'm the first appointment of the day. And then once you get called back, you wait another 30 minutes. The final straw for me was my last visit when I went a for an annual checkup. She noticed I had a little congestion in my chest and I said, ya actually, I've had that for over a year. I even came and paid for a visit about 6 months ago when I had had it for 6 months (I had been waiting for spring to pass.) They gave me a zpack and it didnt help. She said maybe it was a different allergy that is still present in my house (i.e. dog dander). She gave me a printed sheet of allergist I could call. Because she gave me a "referral" , she can legally charge me for an office visit becuase it was "not related to my well checkup." That was the last straw for me, I'm done. This place has degraded in quality. For my last physical, the facilities were dirty and the staff a bit rude. I went in for bloodwork for a specific test and they forgot to do the specific test and just did routine blood work. My most recent visit, they are going against CDC guidelines for medical facilities and not requiring masks. Sitting in a crowded, maskless waiting room as the final straw. read more

This doctor's office used to be reliable and decent; I was seeing Dr. Miller for years before moving to another nearby suburb. It was important for me to keep a rapport with the same doctor, so I made the drive. Over the past two years, Dr. Miller has gone through 4 nurse assistants, all of whom have been more rude than the next. I let that go as they are not the doctor, but they are responsible for calling in prescriptions and they consistently fail to do so. This leaves me scrambling on the phone, driving to their office to the pharmacy to get my prescriptions filled in a semi-timely fashion. The last time I went to pick up my paper prescriptions, which I was told would be waiting at the front desk, and the prescriptions were not there, neither was the doctor, and the nurse assistants raised their voices at me in the waiting room to let me know that they were not responsible for this and were simply the messengers. It's gotten to a point, in this Covid-19 climate, that I will be switching doctors for good; there is enough to stress about already. Nowadays it's easy to see which businesses truly care about their clientele; this doctor's office is not one of them. This place simply doesn't care about the well-being of their patients, they care about making money. Anywhere is better than here. read more

Well, I have a confession to make...Before I set up my appointment for Alpharetta Internal Medicine I looked at these reviews. Being the optimist I decided to try them, (this disposition has work for me most times), this was not one of them. I figured, how bad can this be, and I asked my co-worker if she could refer me to a Doctor and she actually recommended this office because her first visit went well. What I find amazing though is that you remain on this "List" to get a physical but most other Practices are able to schedule one no later than two months out. It's a never ending wait list at this office. Which makes me think that they are trying to ramp up the billing by forcing you to come in as a regular appointment because most Insurance Companies give you a free physical per year. Setting up the appointment was my first indication that I should have just hung up the phone and find another Doctor. They were rude, discourteous and hurried, (like, I have things to do so please get off the phone - poor customer service way). My appointment was with Dr. Still, and she was genuinely pleasant and the only reason why I would give (2) stars. I had questions about my insurance/billing coverage and needed to follow up with "The Billing Staff"; to put it simply... it was horrible. My mouth was open in pure amazement at the level of inefficiency and callousness. I literally just called the office to finally get some closure to this billing issue and they have a message stating that they are unable to answer the phone at 02:10pm in the afternoon. I have been trying for (1) one hour. So, to all of the folks who still want to give this poor excuse of a business 'a try' don't do it. read more

STAY AWAY.....Dr. Holbrook will say one thing to you while in the exam room, and do the complete opposite after you leave. I have been on Gout medication for at least 3 years consistently. My lab work came back elevated uric acid. Dr. Holbrook states "have patient take medication consistently for 3 months and repeat test." Hello, I have been on this medication consistently for years, and we had a conversation concerning this while in the exam room. This is just another excuse to bring the patient back in to collect another co-pay and bill the insurance company. Dr. Holbrook also decided to deny my RX refill on 3 RX.....leaving me with 4 tablets. He is a very unethical Doctor that I would not recommend to anyone. I have been going to this practice for 8 years and won't be back. In my recent physical I was asked if I had any concerns and I said I may have gluten intolerance. So Dr Caldwell ran a celiac test. Imagine my surprise when I got billed for the annual exam AND an office visit at the same time (total appt time less than 20 min) because I discussed a concern during the appt. I wasted 30 seconds of the Dr's time having the nerve to ask if she would run a blood test as a part of my annual blood work. This place is just churning and burning for dollars. DO NOT waste your time or money at this practice. We have Blue Cross Blue Shield. After my husband's routine check in with the doc, we were billed $300 for lab work (in addition to our $60 copay). Our insurance company was billed almost $700. When I called BCBS, they said this practice charges almost 50% more than most providers in our network. I have already switched practices and paid less than $50 for the same tests through my new doctor. My husband will also switch doctors, effective today. Additionally, this practice treats people like cattle. During COVID lockdown, the practice would not fill my perscriptions unless I went in for a visit. I have taken the same perscriptions for years with no problems. Obviously, this practice is more concerned with their bottom line than the health of their patients. Stay away. read more
