He came by, and I gave him an overview of what my condo was looking to achieve. Our front garden was a mess with weeds growing as tall as me. We also had weeds growing along our back yard fence line and a garden where my previous neighbors were planting flowers. The rear garden bed was filled with rocks too. Aroldo advised that his team can remove all of the weeds in the 3 locations, put down fertilizer and mulch and even a cloth to prevent weeds from coming back. He also indicated that he can use the rocks to create a barrier of the garden beds in the front and back. He provided some options, but we ultimately decided on the basic package. He even agreed to transfer flowers over from the back to the front, and promised to remove some branches on the side of the house that was blocking the pathway. His team came and did a fantastic job. My condo neighbors, my wife, and I are so happy with the job that Aroldo's team has done. We have nothing but great praises. We look forward to hiring him again in the future.

However, there were many projects to be completed at my deceased mother's house. Because I am disabled and not able to get to the property, I couldn't see how badly I was taken advantage of. Not only did I pay for a job they did not do, I also paid for another job that is unfinished, plus a french drain that is causing a sink hole, and the buried equipment is now above ground. All 3 of these projects pose safety risks. The french drain collapse is only 6 months after installation. After bringing these issues to the owners attention (the unfinished project I'd requested be completed for months), the owner began ignoring me. When I mentioned that litigation was going to move forward, the owner said he'd look at the work that week then blew me off again. When they actually do work, Golden Hill's quality of work is atrocious and will need to be fixed. They broke the house vinyl siding when cutting down a tree branch and refused to fix it. I hired a contractor to fix that. They will overcharge (snowplowing is expensive), take advantage of you if you are a senior or disabled, and will try to get paid without working. They should not be in business and allowed to take advantage. I now have to pay someone else to fix their work, finish their work, and do a $375 job they never did. They've been paid over $10,000, with more work to be done at multiple properties. They agreed to do a quote at a second property, then never showed up. One would figure, with that kind if business, a company would want to perform quality work and respond to a dedicated customer. Aroldo at Golden Hill Landscaping & Construction will do a poor job or not at all, blow off appointments, ignore requests, and refuse to fix problems. He will, however, not hesitate to pick up a check. You should not ever hire them. If you do, be prepared to throw money away.

While discussing the job with Renato he noted that the original builder had also installed one paver that was a different color than the others and offered to fix it while they re-did the edging (great!). Towards the end of the job I went out to take a look and noticed that the crew had incorrectly installed the edging pavers in an intermediate section of the walkway. Once informed they remediated the issue (again, great!). However, it appears as though when they did so, they accidentally reinstalled the mis-colored paver. Unfortunately I didn't notice it until the next day because they had to soak the entire walkway with water in order for the crushed stone to set, and so all of the pavers were wet and dark. Mistakes happen, I get it. But the reason for the 2 star review isn't that the mistake was made - it was how it was how Renato handled it (or didn't). Over the ensuing three weeks I texted Renato on three different occasions about the issue, asking him to have a crew return and resolve it. He didn't respond to any of my messages. Unfortunately my experience was similar to one of the other reviewers - the quality of the work was good, but the service provided when confronted with a quality issue was nonexistent.

Less than a week later, without explanation, we were contacted and told they would not be doing the job and our annual lawn service would be discontinued. Despite several attempts, no further communication or explanation was provided. We don't know if the business is now defunct or if they simply decided they no longer wanted our business. We would have been ok with any reasonable explanation, but the lack of communication is highly unprofessional and frustrating as we now need to find an alternative service provider mid-way through the lawncare season. Contract this company at your own risk.

We have seen their previous project at the Old Oak Dojo and really liked the idea of a functional landscape that meet aesthetic purpose, yield edibles as well as fitting in the native eco system. Noah is very knowledgeable of different plants and flowers so conversation with him has always been very educational for us amateur gardeners. He has also been very accommodating from the consultation. He listened to our needs and concerns before coming up with a customized plan that fits our property and budget. The project includes a low dry-stack retaining wall, plants that would help stabilizing the soils since we live on a hill, perennial flowers/plants that support each other and blooms at different time, and irrigation etc. The installation was under a short deadline so that we can have our wish of throwing a post-wedding party in our yard. Noah, Cheryl, and Karen moved very efficiently and accomplished the project before the deadline and within budget. The project also includes post-installation maintenance as the first year is crucial for the garden to survive. Most larger firms were already booked for spring, and when a couple of firms came out in June, they indicated that our job was too small for them to consider. Our realtor recommended Restoring Roots. From the first visit Karen was enthusiastic about the possibilities for our little space. She listened to our concerns and needs--one of the biggest concerns being that as new home owners facing a lot of projects, we wanted to consider a design plan that we could implement in stages. Karen came back to us with a detailed and comprehensive plan for our little space. After multiple negotiations with our condo association, we decided to move ahead with the patio construction in the fall and put the planting and construction of a sitting wall on hold until Spring. Jose came out and gave us an estimate that included burying the downspouts to avoid water dumping on the new patio. He was prompt, communicative, and gave us an estimate in a few days. We scheduled them to come the following week. He and his brother showed up right on time, and promptly began digging things out. I was impressed with what they were able to do in a single day. Because rain was in the forecast, they were flexible on coming back a second day to screed the final paver base. It rained particularly hard and it became clear that there was an issue somewhere. When they came back a few days later, I pointed it out to Jose and he promptly dug out the spot and ensured it was properly filled in and compacted. They finished the job and cleaned up. After the first day, they left the site relatively clean (considering they knew they'd be back). Overall, I would 100% recommend these guys and would love to have them back to do additional projects at our home. They were responsible, competitively priced, and wanted to ensure things were done right.

Couldn't be happier really…read more I had a handful of previous estimates but never pulled the trigger to get the work done because I didn't trust the companies that came out. They would arrive late, skip appointments or take two weeks to send the estimate. If I can't trust them to write out an estimate, how can I trust them with the actual project. When I called Westwood Masonry, I was immediately confirmed with an appointment. Roy, the owner, was a pleasure to work with. He gave me the estimate immediately after measuring and scoping out the project and discussing my needs. We agreed upon a start date and he told me the project would take roughly three weeks. Roy and his crew arrived a day early (of course after he asked if this was OK). I love it when contractors start their projects as scheduled and don't "ghost". He communicated continuously throughout the job and his entire crew could not have been more professional and with exemplary workmanship. You could tell they all took pride in their work and were true craftsmen. Roy finished in two weeks and a couple of days... finishing the project QUICKER than what he told me. I can't recall the last time this has happened with a contractor. Another thing I like is that Westwood Masonry did not require a hefty deposit to start the work. Frankly, they didn't require any deposit. I often feel that contractors grab a deposit and then you don't see them for several weeks. This job started and they worked every day until it was complete. The finished patio, staircases, walls and firepit came out EXACTLY as envisioned and it all looks fantastic. He did a couple of additional touches as an added bonus. I can tell this patio is going to last for a generation. The quality of work was outstanding.
