Rainbows!! Sorry just had to say that. This hotel is super colourful and modern. There are so many different amenities including a restaurant,a pool, a pool table, fitness room, and super convenient walkway to the air port. Usually my family stay at like homewood suites, so this hotel was so much more businesslike with its funky furniture and minimalistic style. Our room was the wheel chair room so it was extremely spacious and we greatly appreciated the concierge giving us the larger room. Each room does have an espresso machine which was nice. We flew in really late into Halifax and flew out really early in the morning, so this hotel was perfect place to sleep on arrival and before departure. There's also food court and Starbucks very accessible from the hotel. The staff are friendly and the rooms were very clean. My fiancee stayed at Alt recently when we had a 6am flight to the States. Rather than get up at 2:00 in the morning I chose to shell out for a room at Alt and get at least a little more sleep. Being right across the street and connected to the airport via a pedway, Alt is very convenient. It was my first time staying here and it was a sight to see. The cool, modern lobby was a sign of things to come, with it's hanging chairs, and trendy design. There's a 24 hour grab-and-go area that has snacks and prepared sandwiches, the bar is open until a generous 2am, and there's even a small pool table around the corner. There's a gym and pool on the ground floor, although the pool can't be much more than 15' long. Our room was up on the 11th floor, with a via on the terminal and parking lots, but more importantly the landing strips. It was fun just to sit in the evil mastermind-esque chair and watch the planes land and take off. The room was compact, but very nice. Everything still had a feeling a being new, and the modern design flare continued with a very efficient use of the space for storage and general utility. The queen-sized bed was comfy, although only being in it for four hours was a bit painful. Wifi worked wonderfully despite the compact, concrete-encased corner room that we had. Having booked the room on Expedia well in advance, check in and out was smooth and efficient. It wasn't cheap at ~$160 after taxes and fees, but considering I would have had to pay $65 for a cab and gotten even less sleep if we had stayed at home that night, I considered it more than worth it. It's a great hotel and and definitely raises the bar in quality for airport hotels in Halifax. read more

Totally sucky hotel. Very convenient for air travel. BUT -- Because they have a captive audience they charge eye-watering prices: $320+ C$ for what is after all a pretty ordinary nice but nothing special room. -- Too hip for signage? NO HELP finding the walkway to the hotel on their website. The website just says "connected by a walkway." OK, where? When I called for directions it was something like "take the escalator from the food court and you'll see a walkway." Wrong, wrong wrong. Taking the escalator from the food court puts you in the US departures area, which is often empty most of thye day and dead empty at night. Absolutely no obvious "walkway." Come one, this is an easy fix. Change your website. Show pics/ give a map/ dance a little dance to help weary travellers find you.. and work with the airport to get LOTS of signs pointing the way -- too hip for help in the room? the coffee machine was tucked into a dead-end corner of the room behind the bed wall -- where no sane person would ever look! -- what's wrong with a hip litt;e sign and an arrow that says "coffee here!" -- where's the tea? Isn't this Canada? -- the nespresso machine is at a height that only someone about 6'6" could actually see. There's lots of actions that have to happen at the top of the machine, that's where the buttons are. But literally not visible to anyone who's not a giant. Did you not have a focus group? did you not have a soft openeing? You won't be seeing me back again. read more

Faced with the prospect of kicking off vacation time with a 5am cab pick-up, I channeled my inner Roger Murtaugh circa Legal Weapon 1-4 ("I'm too old for this shit") and booked a night at the ALT Hotel within early morning stumbling distance. Originally just meant to be a place to crash, we were far from prepared for the amount of awesome packed into this newcomer to the Halifax hotel scene. It got our trip off to such an enjoyable start that I can't imagine not taking advantage again in the future. Aside from the airport location, this would be my number one recommendation of places to stay in the city. (Dear ALT: open another on the peninsula?) The lobby alone sets an incredible tone for your stay. Instead of having the obligatory 'waiting for your cab' couch, they've packed it with unique seating areas ranging from comfy couches to swinging chairs suspended from the ceiling, art installations and fireplaces, and a pool table. We couldn't help but pop down later in the night just to hang out there - something I've never done at other hotels. You'll also find a grab-and-go cafe and bar in place of the dreaded 'hotel restaurant' but you can easily pop across the pedway for a sit-down bite. And the rooms? I would gladly live in one. They're compact but beautifully designed so that you have everything you need in a sleek, hip setting. The bathroom, in particular, was gorgeous although you may want to reconsider sharing a room with anyone you're not quite 'intimate' with given the inherent sexiness of the frosted glass wall between the shower and the bedroom. I'm not sure if that's consistent across all rooms though. It would take quite the hotel to make such an impression from just one night, let alone to stand up against the five days of Manhattan adventures that followed, but the ALT delivered. This hotel is super handy if you have a really early morning flight and are not a morning person. It's awesome to just roll out of bed and pretty much land right at your gate a couple of minutes later. The rooms are quite small but functional. There's a small bar/espresso bar in the lobby that has some snacks and is very expensive. The hotel decor is really stylish and modern. Definitely with some European boutique hotel influence. It's really not bad for the price and I've only had good experiences here. read more

BACKGROUND I was in Halifax with a 5am flight to Toronto, so I popped into the ALT Hotel Halifax for the night. This ALT Hotel is directly attached to the Halifax Airport, so there's no need to fight the cold Halifax climate to catch your flight. EASY PEASY. ALT HOTELS ALT Hotel are the newest and greatest in ultra modern chic travel experience; with eco-friendly buildings and a high tech, self-serve, self-sufficient vibe. Once checked in, you have full access to the gym, indoor pool, lounges and café. Welcome to the future of travel. SERVICE EXPERIENCE Honestly, there is minimal interaction with the staff required. Check in and you've basically got free reign of the place. The only other interaction I had with the staff was at the café check out. I actually had more interaction without the the guests, which were mostly pilots. CONCLUSION The future of travel is FUN!! The past of clunky rooms with ugly bedspreads and TV's chained to the wall is over. This is the best airport hotel I've stayed in, and it ranks high overall. I chose to stay on both my way in AND out of Halifax. It was quiet, had convenient and fresh food options, had a great bed, and was generally quick and easy. It's in the contemporary/European style, so it's on the smaller and more minimalist style. That's appealing to me, but more importantly, it allows them to fit more rooms at this attached-to-the-airport location. That's very useful with an early or a late flight. The 3.50CAD/ 1 hour bus to downtown Halifax is downstairs too. There are a 24 hour gym, pool, and seating area downstairs, though I didn't use them. My room had the needed hair dryer, iron, and toiletries, along with AC/heating and super comfortable bedding. I ate an Indian butter chicken dish, a cauliflower/garbanzo salad, and a chocolate flourless cake (all gluten-free). It was good quality for the airport, clearly-labeled (for dietary restrictions and date of prep), and reasonably priced. The staff was very nice, efficient, and friendly too. read more

This is a very new hotel at the international airport in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. And it is precisely what an airport hotel should be. It is physically connected to the airport via a walkway. You can check out and be at check-in in minutes, literally, no transfers required. It is very functional, which is probably what you want in an airport hotel, where you're almost certainly staying only one night. The rooms are quite small but they make excellent use of space, including drawers under the bed and room under the table surfaces. The bathroom somehow feels quite roomy via the use of glass and mirrors. It is very modern in design, if you like that sort of thing (and I do). The furniture, the windows, the artwork, the bathroom, the concrete walls, it's all quite stylish-industrial. Front desk staff are friendly and efficient. There's a funky lounge and seating area at the lobby level. There's free wifi everywhere, no password needed. Note: 1. There's no hotel parking, just the airport parking. Long-term (and outdoor) is cheaper. 2. The lounge only has light snacks. You can go into the airport terminal for a full meal at the Alehouse. read more

Location location location. Hipster hotel, clean , comfortable QUEEN size beds (I don't know if they have king), decent gym and a small pool. Modern decor (IKEA flavour of the day) - very European flavour. They have a 24 hour convenient store cafeteria style bar. Fresh cold water 24/7. Charging ports in desks in room, decent body soaps and shampoos, Parking is included in a one night stay! (At the airport street level outdoor parking - get directions and instructions first - do not go into the airports parking first before checking in). There are a number of street level spots to park in while checking in if you have driven there. I was extremely impressed - I had missed my connection and had not arrived at midnight as originally planned - I didn't arrive until the next morning at 11am. I didn't lose that night of paid accommodation. The reception reinstated my room and I was able to stay for the night the day I arrived. Nothing like putting $200 back in my pocket that I had already shelled out and wasn't expecting to get back. Although I had to drive back and forth to the city that day it didn't matter as I had a rent a car anyway. It's only a 30 minute drive. Great little hotel at the airport. Let's face it, you wouldn't stay at the airport unless you had to - or had an early morning flight and wanted to drop your rental car off the night before. It's very clean... nicely decorated. Loved the lobby area where you could get a drink at the bar (all of us were the same - middle aged white dudes sitting alone watching the game on TV). They have a nice pool table too. The gym and pool area looked amazing, although I doubt most people would ever use it. The room was very nicely decorated. Great TV channel selection, etc. Bed was very comfortable. Overall a great hotel. would I stay there again? yes, if I had a 6:30 am flight. Great find at the airport. If you have even an hour to kill - cross the pedestrian and escape to a non-airport experience. Staff are friendly and helpful in multiple roles: front desk, behind the bar or just checking on things. The food is prepackaged - but the best in the airport! There are craft beers in tap, happy hour and premium spirits. Staying the night and enjoying the pleasure of a short walk as opposed to a taxi or shuttle is a great way to feel the luxury of air travel. I was lucky enough to be gifted a free night's stay in this hotel, and the perfect opportunity presented itself in August when my bff visited from Alberta. We decided to stay here her last night in town because you really can't beat rolling out of bed and heading right to your gate! Things I liked: I was impressed with the decor - very modern and chic, European-style. Something different for Halifax, which is nice. The beds were really soft and comfy. I loved the colourful wall mosaic made up of social media photos. I also loved the staff, they were all exceptionally friendly and professional. The lobby has several cozy sitting areas, and even a "board-room" style area if you need an actual table to get some work done. I liked the pool - small, but nice locker rooms attached and loved the tilework. Finally, the pedway directly from the lobby into the airport is super convenient - you wouldn't even need to wear a coat in the winter! Things I didn't like: Although I liked the "look" of the hotel, I felt that some of the decor was a bit cold for my taste (e.g. cement floors). Although the lobby cafe is convenient and the food I had tasted good, I found it to be a bit overpriced and while pre-packaged stuff is great if you're on the go, it was disappointing that there was no restaurant for us to have a sit-down meal. Especially since the airport is pretty much in the middle of nowhere and most restos in the airport are either a) crappy, or b) open limited hours. We had to order food in, which was fine but not ideal. Also, although I liked the pool, the room was very cold! Cold air + cold water was rather uncomfortable and we couldn't stay in there long. This place is clearly catered to businesspeople who appreciate "expensive" touches, and are on short stays, which makes sense for an airport hotel and I would definitely recommend it for that. But I wouldn't recommend it for a longer stay or for someone who actually wants to explore Halifax (get into a hotel downtown for that). Overall, I had a great experience though. OMG!!! Exquisite furnishing, tasteful technology. The tv has desktop HDMI, composite and USB ports. Lights are controlled by your proximity room cards. Bed has underneath storage. The decor is industrial with a touch of Copenhagen - almost like a futuristic sci-fi movie. The bed is the most comfortable bed ever! Plenty of comfy pillows. Well worth the money. Why can't all hotels be like this? All Groupe Germain hotels I have stayed in have always been very clean and pleasant. This one is no exception to that. Modern, clean and comfortable. The bed is amazingly comfortable. There is coffee in the room (Keurig). This is the only place I stay when I am in town. The little food place downstairs has a few healthy options like hard boiled eggs and a quinoa salad. Exercise room is well equipped and there is even a pool. read more

It's all very mod and chic, but misses the very basics that a hotel should provide. Very dark, cold and mysterious corridors, god help you if you are colour blind because the signage was designed by an art student hell bent on making an impression. The common areas are specifically welcoming if you plan on not being there very long. The over emphasis on 'modern' design utterly undermines any concept of hospitality at the Alt, and by the way the 'concept' name suggests something akin to 'alternative right' & nazism, something I'm sure was not intended. The staff, although very pleasant, seem embarrassed by the lack of warmth offered in the hotel. The designers have clearly never had to use the hotel or they would surely have noticed the plumbing fixtures that spew water onto your feet. Nor have they suffered the imposition of Cold War concrete in the bedroom, a cheap and very lazy design feature!! There is a vulgar, but exact expression that sums up the 'Alt' ........ "It's all Fur Coat and no Knickers". I.e. Great on the exterior but little substance. read more

After a cancelled flight at 2 a.m. we called the hotel and they were super friendly. Had to check our rebooking and went there around 3 a.m. At this time there were approximately 6 other check-ins because of the cancelled flight but it all went totally quickly. The room was really nice and the hotel itself too. Breakfast not included but you can book it or have it at the airport. Easy access to the hotel from the airport without going outside. read more
