Very good Franconia restaurant. I would give them 4.5 if I could just not quite a 5. Ordered potato pancakes (a house specialty) sparglen with a vinaigrette served with Grilled Nuremberg sausages. Order of sparglen was kind of messed up had to be returned for a redo. The potato pancakes were tasty but luke warm as I tried waiting a bit for the asparagus to arrive. Thought that the potato pancakes bring a specialty they would have had homemade applesauce served either them not out of a jar...I was wrong. The asparagus were wonderful. Better than our last time eating here in 2019. Great going. Highly recommend. Also recommend a booking. Will definitely return Love the atmosphere... and service was great read more

As two Americans visiting , I was nervous about ordering. Thankfully the waiters spoke English and were happy to recommend some popular plates for us. We were more than satisfied with the portion size and flavors! The ratler beer was tasty but my Hugo lacked flavor unfortunately. For dessert we ordered their apple dessert with vanilla ice cream. It was so flavorful without being too sweet. Wished we could have gone back during our stay to enlist their food and company once again. read more

For Im Keller- This experience was amazing! I found the Knights Feast by accident, which does require reservations. Luckily I had 6 days left on my trip and was able to reserve a spot the last evening. It will be a 3-4 hour event and meal costs $36.90 per person for the 7 course meal. Drinks not included (with the exception of the horn of mead). Also, you eat with your hands, for that extra medieval feel. We arrived and there was not host so we were a bit confused. We eventually found someone and they directed us to our table. They had really great drink selections. The knights feast was amazing. I don't even know where to start, but I'd say skip the bread because the stuff that follows is out of this world!! They serve radish salad, jellied meat (this sounds and looks gross... but was really surprisingly delicious!), soup, bacon wrapped quail (so good... it just fell off the bone), pork leg & ribs (the skin was perfectly crunchy and those ribs were to die for), mixed salad, potatoes, stuffed apple pastry, and a cheese plate. Throughout the dinner there was entertainment and singing. We don't speak German but didn't make a difference, we had a great time and tried to play along. read more

Showed up unannounced on Christmas Eve for a dinner. All of the tables were taken, but I suggested to the bar tender to sit at the bar. Restaurant is super cute, historic with great selection of local Franconian food as Franconia is part of Bavaria now. Therefore very very localized. Staff was very pleasant, they speak English for the most part, but do not expect the US style service. They will deliver food and leave you alone without checking on you-which is the name of the game. Staff is neatly dressed in local traditional clothes!! There is a good deal of local beers on tap, but as I was getting over a cold, I opted for a tea. Food wise I ordered potato soup which was great but came in a super tiny cup, and for 5 euro or so it was disappointing. However roasted shoulder of a piglet which was roughly 12 euro was to die for, and it was a lot of food!!! Lastly I finished off my meal with Apple strudel and vanilla sauce which was all I was hoping it would be!!! If you are looking for a local fare, look no further. A bit cramped with typical German service as downfalls, the food and ambiance cannot be beat! read more

Actually tried their food at the Altestadfest. The spareribs bbq and potato salad are great. Update: the next day, we went to the Im Keller location (their cellar part of the restaurant). The interior decor is so cool. We had the meat platter. Wonderful. read more

Came here for dinner because we wanted to eat something with cracklings! On top of that we proceeded to order way too much food which was ALL excellent! We started with a couple of Hefeweizen! Which were delicious! Then as an appetizer I had Backers (potato pancakes) with onions and bacon which incidentally also came with a salad. His could have been a meal by itself. My parted had the Backers with Nürnberg bratwursts and Sauerkraut. For dinner we both had the Schaufele (pork shoulder) with had a deliciously crispy cracklings on top. These were served with potato dumplings and gravy along with a green salad or sauerkraut. All in all the dinner in Alte Küch'n I'm Keller was delicious and traditionally Bavarian. If in Nuremberg definitely seek this place out for an authentic meal. read more

Great classic Franconian food! They offer a wide range of drink options. Even better, unlike a lot of Nuremberg restaurants, they take credit cards and are open on Sundays. Excellent service. You can sit outdoors or inside. read more

We really wanted to go to the Im Keller and eat because of the history of the cellar; however, they are closed on Sunday. We then made reservations to eat at the Alte Küch'n. My son ordered the French onion soup which had a German twist on it by frying the top of the cheese and setting it on top of the soup. The soup was delicious with the fried cheese and changed the perspective on broiled cheese usually placed on top of the soup. It did not have bread under the cheese, just a few croutons on top. He ordered the Veal Schnitzel which was tasty as well. My husband had the peppercorn medallion pork with potato pancakes. The cold potato salad was good that they served with the schnitzel. The potato pancakes were a disappointment. I love potato pancakes and growing up, my grandmother who was Pennsylvania German would make it all the time. They should be crispy on the outside and have a tasty center. The potato pancakes served did not taste fresh, were burnt and served with way to much dill on top. They were also super greasy. I would give the restaurant a four if it wasn't for the potato pancakes. The prices were also expensive for what the quality of the food was. The desserts were very scrumptious, especially the raspberry with cream and my son did enjoy his apple strudel with cream. Note that the liter of water was really expensive at 7.90 euro for 1 liter. I wouldn't mind paying these prices for the Im Keller, because of the cool ambience and experience, but in my opinion, not worth the price for the Alte Kutch'n. read more

Oh gosh what an unpleasant experience. Yes we are America tourist and I completely felt like we were just a problem in the way. It was midday we were in this city for the day and of course wanted to experience some food from this area. I am not sure why we stayed here ...but we did. I noticed there was plenty of seating in the back however we were crammed in a table really close to 2 other parties. I get it if there were reservations but there was no one showing up Wait staff was rude and we had to wait a long time for beverages and refills. I wanted to just try a potato dumpling however she said it only comes with meals and I can't get one alone. Ok. I ordered potato cakes and they were fair. Maybe they are just tired of tourist. Not on a list to visit again. read more

I do not recommend the place. The service was slow. I ordered meat and it was so hard that it was impossible to chew. I could not eat it. The waiter was informed, but he did not care that the dish was returned full, the bill arrived the same. read more

This place is really cool! They have a medieval cellar for dinners, events etc - we didn't eat down there, but went down to check it out. Definitely worth a visit! Maybe sometime we will eat down there. But the std restaurant area is pretty neat as well. We just had some beers and the apple cake - which was fabulous - but I definitely want to go back and try other things. Apparently they are famous for the potato pancakes. read more

Food is fabulous! Service for foreigners is horrible! I couldn't tell if it was because we were Americans or something else, but 2 hours 45 minutes for 3 meals is waaay to long! The server came to our table after 40 minutes and our drinks arrived 20 minutes later, while the table next to us "speaking German" she served them and their drinks within 15 minutes .... You go and judge for yourself, just don't expect to get done within 90 minutes! read more

Very characteristic: we ate in the back room nearby the kitchen and the grill (an old firewood grill in cast iron and ceramics), and everything spoke of authenticity. Likewise, the food was simple, authentic, extremely tasty and cooked to perfection. I could do without the Nurnberg schnitzels, but I absolutely recommend the crackling pork shoulder: the cracklings were amazingly good (difficult not to), and the meat slowly roasted for at least 6/7 hours melts in your mouth. By the way I do not normally love sauerkraut, but in this case.. please try them. I also suggest the potato pancakes (appetizers) with cranberry compote. The bill was absolutely reasonable, the service was nice (little english spoken, but the menus are all subtitled). Finally, I suggest to eat outside on the street (very pretty) even though the back room is very pretty, it was hot and muggy an air conditioner would have helped. read more

Great authentic German dinner spot. We enjoyed our meals very much which came out fast enough and large servings. We hadn't come across the bread with the pork fat which was nice - until we were told what it was!! Good price too! Recommend for an authentic German meal. read more
