I am extremely disappointed in this place. I haven't had alterations done here in years but thought I would give them a second chance. I paid over $20 for the straps on a dress to be shortened by an inch when I only paid $18 for the actual dress. They never called when my alterations were done and when I called them to see if they were done the lady acted rude and made it clear that they don't call when alterations are ready??? I will teach myself to sew before I go back here. read more

$37 to hem a brand new pair of suit pants and add belt loops (this did NOT include dry cleaning). It took almost a week to return, and when I went to pick them up, the pants were handed back to me on a hanger WITHOUT a plastic bag. Expected a little more, but oh well. read more

NEVER, EVER, FOR ANY REASON, TAKE YOUR CLOTHES TO ALTERATIONS BY SARAH. I am going through positively the worst experience with alterations I've ever had. I bought a very nice new designer coat, long black wool, very straight "reefer" style. I took it to Sarah's for alterations, shorten the sleeves, add shoulder pads, tack down the side seam pockets since I didn't need them. (The coat has other pockets.) When I picked the coat up, everything was fine except the pockets had been pushed completely inside the seams and sewn completely over, ruining the line of the coat. I took the coat back and asked for it to be fixed - I couldn't understand how tacking shut side seam pockets could have been so horribly misunderstood. However, apparently they removed part of the pocket when they sewed over it. They un-hid the pockets and left the seam open, but the bottom of the coat had been altered to be straight down from the mutilated side seam pocket, and now the coat, when I tried it on, looks like I'm carrying canteloupes in my jeans pockts. The sides go straight down, then bow out, then come back in and go straight down even narrower than the top of the coat. It looks horrible. I have repeatedly called to speak to the owner, who is an attorney. He refuses to return my calls. So now I have to file a suit in small claims court just to get my money back for A) the $179 I paid for the coat, and B) the $55 I paid for alterations. NEVER, EVER go to Alterations by Sarah for ANY kind of alterations. Not if you value your clothing. Seriously, don't do it. read more

Ok, So here is a review of our experience at Alterations by Sarah near 21st and maize in Wichita. My wife went in and said that the tailor their made her worried because she said that the tailor seemed a little off. Also we were using a groupon and my wife was worried that they would try and burn us on the groupon. With that said, here is our experience and an honest opinion of things there. I'll break it down to a few categories, ownership, store(appearance and customer service, price/value, overall experience. Ownership(1/5): having never met the man, I'm assuming that Abdul is a lawyer that owns this business as a second form of income stream. Also, I think his rules are ok, but when not properly displayed and not an active part of the business. He is setting himself up for possible lawsuits(possible class action if enough people). The ownership said that they would not accept groupons after jan 1, 2012. I personally did not like that rule, but he has every right to do it. I think he did this because he figured that he was going to lose money with groupon and tried to make changes as quickly as possible. The problem is that the signs in the store do not reflect the policy that was on the groupon. Nowhere on the groupon does it say that the full value of the groupon must be used at one time. There have been stores that have done that and with Alterations by sarah not putting that in the groupon I believe that they intended on people not using the full value and not getting their intended benefit. Also, knowing this they should have put up a sign in the strore explaining that the full value of the groupon must be used when presented. Also, when trying to get in touch with abdul, I was constantly sent to a voicemail that was full. Therefore, I can only make the assumption that he is so busy that everyone wants to talk to him. What about I don't know but I'm sure at least 1 or 2 would be about the policies and the groupon. So for bad policies and not properly putting signage in the store without being able to contact the owner he gets 1 of 5 stars. Store(3.5/5): The store was clean and not overly professional but was ok for an alterations place. The signs in the store were all printed on standared paper and taped to walls and the front desk. No explanations of possible policies that would offend people, but then again they don't have to do it if they don't want to. You could see the sewing machines in the back and some of the work that they were to be working on. In my opinion, it was unprofessional for us to see that and should have been walled off in order to give the customer a better view. However, nothing wrong but nothing to wow me. So this section gets about 3/5. Customer service is a difficult thing to evaluate. So here are what I liked and what I didn't. I was unimpressed when the employees were being confrontational and told me the rules even though the rules were not posted. So they could have just made them up and blame it on the store owner. However, here is what I was impressed with is that they never said that I was being mean or yelling(which I wasn't but I could see some stores thinking that). They tried to act calm and put all the blame onto the ownership(which is probably the right place to put it) and when push came to shove, they explained what happens if things are not done 100% correctly(out of their pockets not owners). So if they were to accept the groupon on multiple orders they would be out $9 to 11 per groupon. If everything is true then I think it's an ownership problem. I did notice that one of the employees was trying to stick up for the other which is nice and I'd have no problem working with either one so they get 4/5. Average the two out and you get 3.5/5 not impressed and not horrible. price/value: So my wife had a pair of pants and all she needed done on it was to shorten the legs. To me that it seems a bit on the high end for it to be about $10. Granted the last time I had it done was a couple years ago, but I only paid $5 for it. Wouldn't think that prices would have gone up that much in a few years. Overall, I'd say that for the quality of the work, it's about average not a wow and not a horrible job. No one would notice or ask about the shortening so that's ok. Overall they did the job but wasn't a great value. If it was a taking in of the waist or changing the look it would be a good to phenomenal value at $10. but to just shorten it's ok. 3 out of 5. Overall experience I would say it's ok. not great and not horrible. just an ok experience. Here is where I would show caution. First of all, a business is a reflection of its owner. With what I know.
