A quaint, quiet wee street with a slight Dickensian air to it. The small, independently run salon was a breath of fresh air from the faceless anonymity of the big chain salons I've patronised in the past. It was obvious from the outset that Rick knows about hair and he took a good look at mine and had good chat with me before whipping out the scissors. The result is that I'm now delighted that my hair no longer makes me look like Tina Turner circa 1990 and is very pretty, and I'm ever so pleased. Moreover I feel confident that should I ever have any further hair disasters or even small queries; I know exactly where to go. I will certainly be recommending the Rose & Crown to whomever shall listen and I will definitely be returning whether for a new do, colour, manicure or massage (yes, they do all that in one cosy wee place! I have quite curly and awkward hair (as a guy) and Rick managed to cut it in ways that didn't make me look like a complete idiot. They dropped combs and scissors on me repetitively and at one point did not put a gown on me so the hair fell all over my clothes and stuck to them.... they also cut way more off of the length than I had requested, after making a clear point that I was growing my hair. As for the colour, I was at first quoted around £90 which somehow after totalled to over £100 - I ended up paying about £99 because I had been previously quoted 'wrong'. I specifically asked for the yellow tones to be taken out of my hair, and a more natural blonde, I even showed photographs but when the colour was finished, it was more yellow and brighter than I had originally came in with. This is due to their poor skills and cheap dyes they use. Being terribly unhappy, I came back again to have a toner put in to darken it. They charged me for this toner. The colour still was not correct - it had turned orange. I then went back a 3RD TIME and after a fuss over the phone, they agreed to sort the colour out for free... despite this, I gave up and was still not entirely happy with my hair. This place is awful and deceiving, I should have trusted my instincts when a lady next to me in the chair was already complaining about their service. The staff are friendly and lovely, they really know their stuff and are happy to help with anything. But onto the shop itself. Belli Fuori display art-work from local artists completely free of charge, and allow them to sell their pieces. They also bring clothes over from Italy, which are on sale around the store. In terms of products, they use ammonia-free where possible, and are very conscious of keeping your hair in good condition. Basically, I can't recommend them enough.

I messaged them on instagram and showed them my sister's hair and after a simple message of trying to understand how they can take that dark colour out and change it to the lighter colour she requested in the first place without bleach the person got very defensive and rude. Initially they were refusing to refund any part and they were rude in their replies. Then they ignored me, I sent multiple voice notes talking in a calm and respectful manner and asked to resolve the situation and they ignored that also until i messaged them more sternly. Then they said they can refund PART of the hair colouring money, separating blow dry from the hair colouring, which btw they barely dried her hair when she left it was still wet, they tried to do everything to make it difficult for us. I tried talking to them nicely and honestly have never seen anywhere treat clients this way. so unless you are ready to gamble your hair, do not go to this place. because if you hair does not turn out the way you asked or if you have any issues instead of being caring to the clients they will treat you badly and lack communication and accountability! Please read carefully through the conversation we had. I will be taking legal action because this is ridiculous and absolutely outrageous to treat clients this way. A salon who works on peoples hair for a living should be more sensitive and understanding to how precious peoples hair are to them! Not ruin it then act entitled.

I have been to far better hairdressers They didn't seem to have sophisticated hair styling tools at their shop, only heat tongs, she didn't not even use the hairdryer much to add volume or curls to my hair. Enter: my visit to J Moriyama, a local branch of Japanese hair salons. At £35 a cut (with none of this increased-price for 'redesign' chicanery), the price was a happy medium between Supercuts butchery and Vidal Sassoon highway robbery. I came in with a picture of something slightly anime-looking, explained the stylist could do whatever he wanted, and left with a great new funky 'do. This place is seriously Japanese, and I enjoyed every minute of it. When I arrived, I found that my name was written in the appointment book as 'Rarissa' (bless). My stylist, Soichi, was really congenial and upbeat throughout the entire cut, and even though I gave him free reign on my mop he verified everything he did to it with me first. After the third or fourth time I told him he could do whatever he wanted, he divulged that the Japanese are very particular about their hair and that requests to take 2mm off the fringe aren't foreign to him. So I suppose if you're the polar opposite of me and want something really particular and technical that j.moriyama would also be right up your alley. So, yeah, my hair is truly fab and it was only £35. No drink or fancy treatment, but the hair wash was brisk and invigorating, the facility was posh and had a current array of magazines and I wasn't charged anything extra by surprise. (Did you know that Vidal Sassoon salons charge you for a blow dry on top of your cut? Cheeky! Who's going to leave with a wet head?)
