I had Rachel today for treatment on my poor back and she is amazing. She is generally very pleasant but she can take out those knots like anything...I need to go back again to sort out my neck and back and she gave fantastic advice on what to do to avoid problems. The treatment room was spotlessly clean, smelt good and the music was very relaxing I could have easily fallen asleep! Now that I have found a great masseuse she is a keeper and I trust her fully. Amazing service. Urban Retreat continues to remain first class. I recently had red vein removal using diathermy and although I had booked 45 minutes - Margaret immediately said that 30 minutes would be sufficient and informed the receptionist to charge accordingly. Urban Retreat has cubicles for privacy and everything is immaculate. Diathermy isn't painless but Margaret is very experienced and makes vanity as pleasant as possible when your face is being pricked with a hot needle. This is cheaper then laser and just as effective. On the 5th floor, of the Iconic Harrods. I was given a gift certificate for a hair treatment in the salon so made the appointment as soon as I could. Going in, the biggest thing is the 'shop', which i found a little rude, as you tend to go to a salon to get pampered not to buy the things to do it yourself!! Once id got over the sight of all the ladies doing nothing, enjoying themselves immensely, I was sat down by my stylist. I thought he was Rude, and arrogant to be honest, and i personally dont understand how the salon can make money with people like him working there! The assistant lady was lovely, and did everything she could to distract me from the ignorance of the stylist! I thought the treatment was average if i'm honest, and the staff could do with some personnel training. I enjoyed my day in London, but will not be going back to this place ever again! read more

I was very disappointed by my treatment at the hair salon at Urban retreat. After having an excellent hair wash after my colour I was left waiting at the station for over 20 mins with no explanation of where the hairdresser was. Eventually when she came it was explained that she had to service a client in the private room. She rushed to complete my haircut in time for my massage (scheduled at 2:30pm). She told me I would have to come back after my massage for my blow dry. No regard was paid to my schedule for the day and I was expected to accommodate just so that the salon could make more money by attending to another client on my time. Once I did come for my blow dry I felt so uncomfortable because the hairdresser was rushing to blow-dry my hair whilst the next client was next to me. I could see her attention on the next client (understandably) but it meant that throughout my session I felt rushed. I did not drive all the way from Berkshire and pay £40 for parking to be treated like a 2nd class customer. After this experience I have very little confidence or reason to come back to Urban Retreat for a relaxing and high quality session. I will be sure to alert my circle of friends that it is really not worth the effort or money. read more

I was deceived by all people on yelp giving this place high reviews! I went there today and yes every one seems nice and colour stylist was OK, but manicure and blow drying are complete waste of money and time !! after leaving highlight colour in my hair for over an hour (which is weird- shouldn't take that long) and after stylist saw it she immediately told me 'you can come back for a tone down of the colour'!!! who would do his/hers job properly and ask client to come back for a change unless they realized they have done a mistake!!! manicure lady has no idea what cuticle tidying means!!and the French hair dresser who I waited for 30 minutes to get on his chair, left me looking like a poodle!!!! he didn't even style my fringe in a decent form !!! when I got to the cash (check out station) to pay. I didn't say a word for £35 lousy manicure and £250 high light ( I was aware I am going to break the bank) but when I heard that the blow dry of my medium length hair was £65 !! I had to say something- I had to complain- and I did what happened? she brought the French genius to ask me why don't I like it!!! because it is massive and not nice !!! to be honest he asked me to get back and he will fix it - but after 2 hours dying my hair and 30 minutes waiting for him to get ready for me (blow dry itself took less than 10 minutes) and 15 minutes waiting at reception after I complained- I has wasted enough time and money, all I wanted was to flee that place as soon as possible going back? never again - I am not an idiot any more the sweetest thing in there was the cloakroom lady who did her job perfectly read more

I was on holiday when I happened upon Harrods Urban Retreat. I work as a massage therapist by trade, and needed a massage. I walked in, and Tupac was blasting from the reception area. Really?! I emailed to complain about the music, but basically was told I was TOO OLD to appreciate it....Baby, I'm from So. Central LA, and when I want to hear GHETTO music, I'll visit the hood. The massage I got here was okay and interesting (lava shells) but the overall experience is just not what you'd expect of a top spa in London. There are so many better options (Earth Spa in Belgravia, Elemis in Mayfair, etc.) that I just can't recommend this place. First, there's the horde of tourists you have to navigate through to get to the spa. Then, when you walk in the emphasis is totally on products to buy rather than relaxation -- there's a check out till area and a check in till but on the Sunday I visited, there was no one at the check in so I had to wait about 10 minutes behind people buying loads of make up before I could register for my massage. The waiting area is tiny with one wraparound sofa -- again, the emphasis is on products to buy rather than relaxation so 2/3 of the room is given over to products. A few brochures on treatments you can have but no magazines and the water machine is a tiny, office-like contraption. The massage was fine but, again, small chair in the treatment room and just no overall relaxation feel. Once you're done, it's back out to the check in/out area. There was now someone at the check in area (10 minutes before they closed when no one would be checking in) who refused to take customers from the spa so I waited again behind someone another load of make up... Overall, there's nothing relaxing about it. read more

I went to Harrods Urban Retreat to by a wig. I have cancer and am loosing my hair to chemo for the third time. I've been to wig shops and they tend to be geared to ladies "of a certain age" or a little creepy (something about all of those lifeless heads). Vikki Ullah's wig boudoir was anything but old and fussy or creepy. Vikki herself helped me and it felt like trying new hair styles with a girlfriend rather than trying to conceal a disfigurement. She was certainly sympathetic to my situation, but didn't make me feel like I had one foot in the grave. I had enough privacy to try things on without feeling like I was on display but I didn't feel like they had shunted me off to a corner away from the healthy people. The wig I bought is FABULOUS! No one knows that it's not my real hair unless I tell them. There are many subtle shades of color so it doesn't look flat or dull. It's chic and easy to care for. While it wasn't cheap, I've seem wigs of much lower quality for much higher prices. read more

London causes quite possibly the WORST hair day you could ever have. It was muggy, hot, windy, rainy, and damp alllll in the same week I was there and it made my hair one giant frizzball. I was literally sitting in my room on theth day in tears of how horrible it looked so I promptly had my concierge book me a blowout and manicure, for extra measure,at Harrod's Urban Retreat. The manicure was lavish and done by a very well rounded technican, she was such a doll, she talked but not too much, and above all she did an awesome job. Then I went downstairs to a completely bustling area of gay men running around, gorgeous, mostly Arab hairdressers, and prissy clients....I was met my Emine who was such a sweetheart and she understood my plight and said she would fix me right up. I was taken by another arabian princess to the "spa" like washing stations where I got a 15 minute head massage, shampoo, and condition which I still fantasize about. Then Emine took over, she whirled my hair into Barbie-like hair and I explained to her my disgust with the haircut I recieved right before I left for the UK (see dreadful Mario Triccoi review and HEED warning) and she said she would try her best to fix my bangs and make it better. I read a magazine and we chatted whille she did her magic (I found the cutest limited edition Chanel compact in there that I almost sprung out of the chair to track down, found it at Selfridges hidden in a drawer BTW.) Emine did A WONDERFUL job and I immediately felt fabulous with normal beautiful bouncy hair again. Upon paying I realized she didn't even charge me for the basic haircut and bang trim which was so kind of her. I left paying much more for a blowout than normal, but gladly. I am dying to return to this place absolutely immediately, I can spend an entire day in here. read more

they do amazing work on brows using both wax and threading. the threading is therapeutic and not painful at all. i would recommend just sticking to one aesthetician since swapping once due to scheduling = different shaped brow. minus one star since i had to wait +15min twice. added bonus is they carry ALL lines of shu uemura hair care in their salon. read more

My sister and I went for a make up lesson with the Laura Mercier ladies and couldn't have had a better time. They were so friendly and really took the time to explain what they were doing and how to do the techniques ourselves. They wrote down all of the products they used and we weren't pressured into buying anything at all- in fact the price of the lesson was redeemable against a purchase anyway, so totally worth it. We came out looking and feeling fabulous and am still able to remember many of the tips they told me. read more

So I admit it, I went to Urban Retreat to find out about a fix for a sun spot. I decided to take a small step towards resolution and just went in for a chat and to find out how much it would cost. I'm not a particular fan of Harrods and so navigating the hoard of tourists and the old design of the shop didn't leave me inclined to warm to the Urban retreat. However, I will say that the staff were good. Helpful and all polite enough to help me past any embarrassment. Seemed to be reasonably priced considering the location and the reviews of other people I sought out prior to the appointment. I've still got another couple of clinics to assess but I was impressed enough to write a review to suggest to any other men that the Urban retreat is worth a visit. read more

I usually go to Vidal Sassoon, but for a treat and to try something new, I splashed out at Urban Retreat. My first impressions were great, the colourist was friendly, but things quickly started to go wrong. I was getting balayage done, and I'm 100% sure they left the bleach on too long. The colourist seemed to want to drag out the affair because the lady who was cutting my hair was still with another customer in a private room. Then they put all of these treatments on my hair to stall me, even though I didn't want them. And.... I then still had to wait 50 minutes sitting in a chair with wet hair waiting for the hair dresser who was cutting my hair to arrive. I nearly walked out, but I had work in the afternoon so really needed dry hair before leaving! In that time, they offered me two drinks, I thought this is great, at least this is something for sitting in this chair bored. But no, I was charged for it all at the end. After all that wait, the hair cut only took 10 minutes! And it wasn't anything spectacular. I've had better. This was 4 months ago, and now where all the bleach was in the ends of my hair - all the underneath of my hair has fallen out and the underneath about 4 inches shorter than the top layer. I do like urban retreat, Im there for several things. I mostly like their eyelash and brows services. The reason I gave just 1 star is because I wanted to review 1 service specifically that went horribly wrong. I paid 2k for my bleached hair to be transformed to the resident trichologist Ricardo Vila Novo. He said that the new hair will be much thicker and I will have lots of it. Ive had whats called medical needling package. Every time I would come out from there my hair would look amazing but few days later it would lose its lustre. After about 6 sessions he has assured me that it will get better. Truth is, there was 0 difference. I tried to get my money back to no avail. Biggest scam ever! Just wanted to world to know. Another service I tried there was spray tanning, I would give it 4 out of 5. Harvey Nichols spray tan is better definitely! Urban retreat is generally a good place, bit overpriced but good. read more

God, hate this place. Used to visit it often, and then stopped because the service become so bad it really pushed me away from them. There is just so much fuss about the top quality of everything they do, but in fact they burned my skin more than 2 times (on different occasions) I visited them. They just so careless there, I think its due to the clients who are prepared to pay the price but change frequently as they are not the residents in the area. read more

If I could give no stars I would. Truly awful for two reasons: 1) Booked a 50 minute massage, when I arrived the masseuse explained to me that they could only work on two areas in this time. What? Why?! I have never experienced this before, everywhere else 50 minutes is sufficient time to have a full body massage. 2) My wife purchased vouchers for me to use in the spa as a gift. Having been out of the country for a while, she asked if they could extend the expiry date of this voucher for my return. They said categorically no. After speaking to Harrods customer services she was informed it was discretionary and that they were able to extend the date if they wanted to... but clearly they wanted to pocket the money and not have a returning customer instead. Have been extremely happy with Agua spa at the Sanderson, Cowshed at Selfridges and Neom in Wimbledon, will be returning to these places in the future. read more

For a completely indulgent hour or so, book yourself into the Creme de la Mer facial at Harrods. OMG. I literally had to will myself not to fall asleep as the very friendly and professional technician smoothed fabulous products onto my skin. I love the Creme range, but try not to buy too much of it since is does cost. However, I have booked my mum in for her birthday as a treat! And I'll probably find some excuse to return myself within a couple months.... This could get to be a habit. read more

The store itself is very over the top and extravagant but it does has it's own charm. The urban retreat is the in-store salon and they have a Aveda hairdressers salon as well as a nail bar and treatment rooms with lots of treatments on offer. I've only had my eyebrows threaded (Farida is very good), and it's a nice novelty to mingle with the ladies that lunch in their natural habitat. The staff are friendly and not snooty or pretentious, and you might even bump into a celeb or two! read more

The woman at the front was lovely and nice and the shampoo and head massage was super relaxing and Michael did one of the best blow drys I have had in a while! Loved everything about going to Harrods for this and got my shopping done as well! Would highly recommend and I am picky about my blow drys! read more

What can I say? This was the WORST experience I have EVER had in a salon. I was SHOCKED and APPALLED by the rudeness of the staff. I spent a total of about 5 minutes in 'Urban Retreat' after being told by my 'stylist' (if he can be called that) that my hair is a mess and there's simply nothing he can do, the haircut that I want is the one I already have so he didn't know why I wanted my hair cut...oh! yes and when I said that I eventually wanted to grow my hair longer, his response was 'well grow it then.' Yes, well done - you are an absolute genius. I AM NEVER GOING HERE EVER AGAIN. After leaving, I went into a hairdressers just down the road and he saw immediately what I wanted done and had absolutely no problem cutting my hair. I don't even want to give 'Urban Retreat' one star, but apparently I have to rate it. read more

I had my eyebrows waxed a few months ago. It was a very nice setup, the atmosphere was relaxing and I didnt feel rushed like I sometimes do at the more expensive salons. It was pricey but it is a convenient location for my work. read more
