Booked a meeting two weeks in advance to deal with some business banking. Arrived today and…read moreadvisor was unprepared, didn't know who we are or what we wanted. It was like a cold contact and as such we ended up leaving without conducting our business. This lack of effort forced us to make a one hour round trip for nothing. When it comes to business banking this is the normal operating mode of TD these days. We have business accounts elsewhere and the experience is vastly different. The personal banking bar is low these days and by that low standard TD is acceptable but for business banking, my own experience would suggest that other banks offer a much higher level of service.

I seldom have to wait for a teller. Customer reps are friendly and efficient and I like the "greeter" who chats you up in the line-up. The four stars here are for TD's new coin sorter service. Today I brought in a medium-sized baggie of coins and it turned out to be $88 worth. Better yet, with a personal account, there is no service charge for converting the coins to cash or debiting your account. The only, only downside is that the coin machine gives you a credit slip that you have to take to the teller to complete the transaction. However, the "greeter" told me that by the end of the year, you will be able to swipe your debit card on the coin machine and get the money deposited directly. Woo hoo!

This RBC branch recently opened and it is big, bright and clean. They are open on Saturdays and…read morelate on Thursdays (until 8pm). Customer service is excellent. Since they recently opened they sent a flyer to residents in the neighbourhood inviting us to come in and take a look at the new branch and if we brought the flyer we would also get a free $5 Tim Hortons gift card - no strings attached! I was like, I like doughnuts and I especially like free doughnuts, so needless to say, I went with flyer in hand. When I got there I was impressed with the way the branch looked and the various services they offered there. They told me though that they ran out of the gift cards, but if I left them my name and mailing address they would mail one to me when they got some more, so that's what I did. That was back in early December 2016. By late January, I still hadn't received anything from them and figured I probably wasn't going to get anything, but whatever. What a pleasant surprise it was when yesterday I got in the mail, a $5 gift card for Bridgehead from them with a note thanking me for my patience. I guess they switched to Bridgehead cards from Tim Hortons cards (makes sense since there are no Tim Hortons in this neighbourhood, but lots of Bridgeheads.). Anyway, I was most impressed with their professionalism on this matter. It shows accountability on all their services, even their promotional offers!

The associate was completely thorough with his explanations every step of the way. He even gave us suggestions/advice on how to save more, and get assistance with our daughter's upcoming college expenses. He gave us warnings about possible audits we might expect from the CRA and assured us that he would take care of all communication with the CRA should they have any questions. I've often wondered why anyone would pay to have their taxes done and now I can see why.
