After many tests and office visits, a neurologist simply told me that there was no apparent cause for the widespread numbness I was experiencing and I should come back to see him if it got worse. On a whim, I decided to try a private yoga session with Brook Longobardi, their certified yoga instructor. I have a rare congenital hip issue and osteoarthritis, along with resulting body compensations so I thought it was possible I wouldn't be able to do many poses. Brook showed me that anyone can do yoga. Within a week after that first session, I was stronger than I have been in years and I have continued to experience improvements both physically and mentally. What I thought would be one session turned into several because Brook intuitively works to understand me as an individual and has shown me that I am capable of so much more than I ever imagined. My symptoms have greatly subsided and my overall wellbeing has improved immensely since the first visit. I had been advised to have surgery in my lower back as I have four herniated discs in the lumbar area. Being a nurse and aware of all the issues that post back surgical patients have had I did not want to make that choice. I also have depression from sever pain . Tried PT sorces and I only got worse. You know the type they tell you to do 10-15 of a exercise and they will be back. Never are there to see how you are doing or check your pain level. Complete Bliss....a result of the Bamboo-Fusion massage experience at Atlernative Therapy. I was experiencing knee pain, around the kneecap and shared this with Nathalie Cecilia, the massage therapist. Strangely, she concentrated on my hip, above the knee for this issue and my pain was reduced over 90%! She explained to me that often where our bodies experience the pain can be due to tensions in other places of the body. It made me a believer! Not only did my pain greatly reduce, the rest of the massage left me feeling completely relaxed and tension free. The scalp massage and warm towels on my chest abdomen were a very plesant surprise. When I came to Alternative Therapy for the first time I was in constant pain, barely functional and I thought I was too old to ever feel any better. Boy, was I wrong! A yoga class with Brook is unlike any I've ever experienced. She educates you on which muscles you should be using and which should remain relaxed. Her gentle adjustments, attention to detail and amusing antidotes relaxed the class and helped us to feel emotionally safe. Her experience working at a physical therapist's office shows in her knowledge of the body and her intuition when a student is not comfortable in a pose. This is my family doctor, not only did he help heal my broken wrist, he taught me about mental health, and how to apply different techniques of meditation to my everyday life.
