There are definitely a lot of stairs so you should know before you opt to walk! I would not recommend walking up. There is also a Sita bus stop right across the street which makes it totally convenient to go anywhere in Positano. We stayed in room 10 which had an incredible view from the balcony. It was clean and comfortable and they made up our room every morning. They give you free breakfast in the morning which is just some croissants and pastries with coffee but it is beautiful sitting and enjoying them with their incredible view from the dining terrace. Barbara helped us out the entire time during our stay and she was great- whether it was getting us reservations at restaurants or answering our million questions every day. Upstairs, there is a bar and coffee shop owned by the NICEST and most helpful man in Italy. It was truly a pleasure to see him every day. I would definitely recommend staying here. I believe they have a two night minimum stay- it is worth every penny.

They are so friendly, accommodating and made our trip extremely enjoyable! We also had dinner at the onsite restaurant. You must make a reservation and be one time. Menu is extensive with great prices! Barbara was our host and did a wonderful job! The spaghetti with bolognese, capri salad and local wine were all amazing! Walkable distance (3 minutes) to ferry ticket office and to Maiori port (2 additional minutes). Maiori port allows for you to easily go to Minori, Amalfi, Positano, etc. for €5. Maiori is the perfect town if you want to be relatively close to Amalfi without being overwhelmed by tourists. I would definitely avoid staying in the city center.

Great location on the main drive with amazing views of the sea if you're lucky to get a room on one of the higher floors. Conveniently located across the street from the ferry ticket office and short walk to the pier where you can easily hop a boat to Amalfi (just 3 euros), where you can transfer to Capri, Positano or Sorrento. Very friendly, attentive waitstaff during breakfast service which included eggs, croissants, fruit, sliced cheese and yogurt and more. Enjoy a beautiful cappuccino before heading out for your day. We found this hotel, tried to book it twice (even though it was not our first choice) and were told the payment was NOT processed and the reservation was not made. So, we found another hotel and booked that properly instead (it was a MUCH more reasonable rate as well, and such nice owners!) then later, I received a confirmation that villa gabrisa confirmed our booking. I immediately responded and said that we had in fact not made the booking, included the screenshots of the "payment not processed" screens, and asked that they kindly cancel whatever booking they seemed to have on file. The owners said no, the rate was non-refundable and they would not cancel it. I explained what happened and they still said no way, we had to keep our $1700 for two night booking even though we did NOT want to stay there. They were being so rude, we decided it wasn't worth it to deal with them. The other hotel owner was so incredibly kind and when we explained what villa gabrisa was doing, they cancelled our reservation at no cost to us (even though that was a nonrefundable rate as well - the difference in kind and considerate ownership). On site, it was obvious the owners were being rude to us based on this situation. We tried to interact with them as little as possible, but it was still so disappointing to spend so much money for such an unpleasant experience. I would never recommend this hotel, all based on the poor customer service and rude ownership.

When we checked in to the hotel, the first room they brought us to was okay, but based on their advertising of the room we thought we'd booked, we were anticipating something larger with a bigger balcony. This first room was on the top floor and had a baby balcony. We if we could switch to another room that had a bigger balcony. They were so nice and said we could for 40 euros more... we looked at the room and UH YES-WHAT A GREAT DEAL. This room was HUGE, with a giant bathroom that had a jet spa tub overlooking the mountainside, and a giant balcony that made us feel like we were royalty. This was BY far the MOST magical part of our trip in Italy (Amalfi, Rome, Orvieto and Venice). Amalfi itself will take your breath away, but having such an accommodating and patient staff was the icing on the cake. And when I say patient I mean Paaaaatttttiiiiieeeeennnntttt, as shown by their lack of frustration with my travel partner who earned the name American princess (ugh...I know). So if you have someone in your group who is high maintenance, have no fear- they will be graciously catered to here! After getting in our room-we did not even unpack, we were transfixed on the balcony which overlooked Positano and the Amalfi coast. The staff brought us a bottle of Franciacorta and a BEAUTIFUL assortment of Italian meats and cheeses (upon arriving we made a mention of how hungry we were and they went above and beyond). We arrived around 2pm, so it was too early for getting Aperitivo and too late for lunch (places close in between). Every morning, Gabrisa puts out a complimentary breakfast- usually meats, cheeses, and breads. The real winner was the cappuccino that I enjoyed at a small table across the street overlooking the mountainside and ocean below. One word AMAZING. We walked down to the beach each day, which is about 20 minutes down, through charming little shops and restaurants. Since it was March not much was open, but the beach made it all worth it. The walk up is definitely not fun, as it is almost completely vertical, but hey it helped us work off all the pasta at least... It was very difficult leaving Amalfi and we almost stayed one extra day.. but we had to move on to Venice. I would suggest on your way out of Positano stopping to see Pompeii. This is something we STILL wish we had done. I also suggest looking at my photos, because they really do speak for themselves and embody what words cannot regarding how great this experience at Villa Gabrisa was.

Our room looked out over Naples Bay, and the little time we spent in our room, we opened the terrace doors to the sights and sounds of Chiaia. Naples is gritty, but Chiaia is lovely. The pedestrian area in front of the hotel was very welcome in contrast to the rest of the bustling city. Restaurants, gelato, little fishing boats, several beautiful yachts at anchor, leisurely strolling by the water day and night. There was a bus stop on the next street over which put us in touch with the rest of the city. The staff was very helpful at every contact. The breakfast was a bounty of breads, meats, cheeses, glorious cakes and pastries, fruits -- and yes, scrambled eggs and bacon for those must have Americans. The gentleman working on the morning we left to catch a very early flight to Palermo had cappuccino made for us, called a cab for the airport and escorted us with our luggage. There is much talk about safety in Naples, but we never felt threatened in any way, and if you take the necessary precautions as in visiting any big city, you will enjoy your visit as we did. 1/4 of my Italian heritage is Neoplitan, so it was a must see for me. While we found many, but not all, in Naples a bit "angry" and sometimes rude, we laughingly chalked it up to living under the volcano.

I requested a quiet room, and booked a king bed sea view suite, which was definitely the right move. Some of the rooms are quite small, but we felt like we had adequate room to wander about. The bed is so comfortable and I loved the heated towel rack. If you get the lavender suite, you won't be disappointed. The views are stunning, and the property grounds are well-maintained and evokes a sense of peace. Apparently, a small orange cat popped up a couple of weeks ago and decided to become the unofficial mascot of the Monastero. Gym is open-air and gets pretty toasty since there's only two small fans. You can get a decent workout in, but don't expect a full-scale gym. The spa is also a treat. We booked a couples massage package and were given a two-story private spa area for 2.5 hours of bliss. Transport to/from Amalfi is super convenient, and Pierre is a fabulous driver. You just need to give them an hour notice, but it's very nice having a private driver. We never had to share the car with anyone. Breakfast came included with the booking and we left stuffed each morning. I do wish there were more savory vegetarian options, but since I was only there a few days, I didn't get bored of the offerings.
