This is a beautiful multi floor library that is shared with the nova university. The library has a lot of light mini books and different computers to use. There are several floors of seating. The library itself is pretty quiet but gets louder throughout the day so I like to go in the morning. They have a pay by phone parking lot just a few blocks away. read more

Absolutely beautiful library. This is a massive private university library located on campus at Nova Southwestern University in Davie. Although it's a private library, it is available to the public. My friend told me about this library as her middle school son volunteered here during the summer. She said it was really nice during the summer when it was quiet and they had the library to themselves. I went during the weekday last week. In the midst of back to school college students everywhere! Lol. They have security by the main entrance and college students are asked to scan their university IDs. All other guests will be let in by the guard. You must have a Broward County Libraries card to check out books at this location. The nice thing is, you can return the books to any Broward County Library and they will ship the book directly to Alvin Sherman Library. So convenient. When you walk into the library, the circulation desk is on the left, there is a computer working lab area on the right, and if you go straight, you'll find the children's book location, there are new books located on the spinning racks next to the stairs, and there is also a hidden bestseller books room located next to the circulation desk and entrance/exit. I believe there are four floors in this library. Tons and tons of tables and rooms for study areas for the college students. My favorite part about this museum is the Chihuly display on the second floor, they fancy! Another fascinating thing about this library, are the moving bookshelves! You heard me right. They have digital buttons where you can move the actual bookshelves. It's such a smart way to save space. Brilliant. Unfortunately, they don't have any Friends of the Library books for sale at this location. But the librarian did mention they have two big annual book sales per year. You can sign up for newsletter on their website. There are also two book returns at the roundabout outside of the library in case you don't want to park and get out of your car. There is a parking garage but you have to pay for parking using the park by mobile app. I believe it was $1.61 per hour. Students park for free with their NSU parking stickers. read more

Don't sleep on your public libraries guys! We attended an East Indian traditional dance event that took us across India's country in the form of the many different dance styles. Bonus, food and drink were included . Catering from an Indian company to be exact. All you had to do was sign up in advance. All of the staff at the library were friendly and assisted us in finding the ticket booth. Their vendors were the same and very willing to share the love of their food and culture with us. Also this came right in time for this month's celebration of Asian American Pacific Islanders Heritage Month! read more

The less intelligent spoiled, rude students who for some reason think a library is a place to hangout like a bar. Instead of going into a study room to study, they go in to gossip, make phone calls and hang out and make sure nobody else can focus. I get it they are young and should have fun -- just don't understand why they use the library to do as its literally the only place in society to try and get some peace and quiet to focus. read more

This establishment truly stands out! The team members are incredibly friendly and assisted me with acquiring a library card during my visit. Situated within Nova University, this library boasts five stories, although only two are accessible to the public. The presence of numerous college students immersed in their studies adds to the vibrant atmosphere. Additionally, there are two museums housed here--one dedicated to Holocaust History and the other showcasing local art. Through contributions from the community, the library has been able to enhance its offerings and improve its environment. Notably, the presence of seating and mobile bookshelves enhances the unique experience. Whether or not you are a student, exploring this place is highly recommended. I have come to this library hundreds of times over the past few years and really enjoy studying here. The 4th floor is the best to focus as it is quiet most of the time. The 10 person study rooms are also really good and have a nice view. The only issue with the library is that it closes too early. Studying at night is my preference, but I am forced to move afterward. read more

Funny-I was a doctoral student at Nova for 9 years and have been to the library maybe 5 times. I regret now not taking advantage all those years since this library is really cool. I was in the Marriage and Family Therapy PhD program and we had our own librarian, which I thought was pretty exclusive. But i might have used her services like only once. This library is open to the public as well but I believe there are more options and freedoms with students and faculty. There are 5 or 6 floors if I remember correctly. Attempting to locate what you need is difficult at times due to limited maps. In my opinion, I think a map of the library should be right by the elevator on the first floor. My last two visits were my last two visits as a student. The chair on my dissertation told me to utilize a reference that was only available as a printed book so I had to take the time to late it and check it out. I also found other references that may be useful and checked those out as well. I believe I was on the 3rd floor, where the bookshelves are powered by electric and you can press buttons to move them. This is to save space but my favorite thing about this library. If you know how to use the Dewey Decimal system, then you should be able to find items quicker. I did place my book on reserve the day prior to picking it up. The instructions on the website were to wait for a confirmation email. Unfortunately, I was on a very tight deadline and couldn't wait for that email. I went into the library and took my chances and I was in luck because no one removed it from the shelf. The checkout counter is right by the entrance and exit doors. Checking out was easy and quick. I was informed of what to do if I needed an extension with the books and told the due dates. I was also provided a bag to carry the books in without any extra charge. Now that I have a lot of freedom, I may visit more! I think my only bother is the parking situation. The closest parking is in the garage and you are mandated to pay no matter your status. read more

LOVE this place! I've been coming here since grad school -back in 2011! This library is ALWAYS clean and quiet. When your chakras are aligned just right you find an available table by one of the window on the second floor. This creates natural light (my FAVORITE!) and it allows you a great view of the events field (when you take your eyes off your studies every now and again). I would totally recommend this place for studying, a quiet space to finish some work, or even bringing the family during one of their many, many family friendly events! read more

Rating: 4 I live here essentially. This library has nursed my tears, mental breakdowns, and nervous laughter. Although it's Nova's library, it is also open to the public. It has five floors and soooo many books. On the third floor, you have the Collaborative Room, which I don't go to often because I like silence so I stay on the fourth floor in a cubicle most times. This year I noticed that there a lot more tables and that is probably because so many more students come this year compared to last year, on a regular basis. In order to do certain things, you need a library card. It's free and easy to apply for. With the card, you can book study rooms for hours, borrow books, laptops, phone charging cables, print, and during finals season, you can get free coffee and a snack with it. More on finals, the library is open until 12 AM, only 30 minutes more but better than nothing. The bathrooms are clean and the the phone zone is near it. This way you can have your conversations away from people studying. If you ever get hungry, then you can make your way to the cafe on the first floor. It's in the cut, so you have to look for it but you can get a snack or meal, or just warm your food from. This library has been very good to me. I am grateful for it. read more

As a nova student, I come to this library fairly often. It's a nice place to study from. The library itself is big and spacious, so there's always a place to study. I'm usually in the computer labs to do school work. The computer labs are clean and quiet. But sometimes it gets loud when students talk. Theres printers and copy machines available throughout the library. There's tons of books and activities available in this library. They sometimes have events for kids or families to participate in. The staff is pretty helpful and nice when you ask for help. read more

Best library every! It's a public library so everyone is welcomed. Very quite. Comfortable chairs. They recently took out the microwaves which is a bummer, but hopefully they'll bring them back soon. The building next-door has microwaves so I'll live. The hours are great, and they extend them when it's midterms or finals. They also do lots of events for kids here. With several floor options, you can definitely get lost, but in a good way. Being a library card member, they have a great variety of books to checkout. The Alvin Sherman library is situated on the scenic Nova South Eastern University Campus. The library, which is one of the largest in south Florida, is open to both students of the university, and the public who sign up for a library card. Featuring several floors of books, includes a children's book center, this library really has all the library essentials. Ample study tables, numerous public computers, printers, private study rooms, and comfy quiet reading nooks. Some pro tips include: There is a Starbucks open 24/7 in the university center right next to the library if you want coffee before you study If your feeling stressed there is a scenic walking path with many plants directly if you walk 400 feet in front of the library's main entrance. The library is fairly sized with alot of books to choose from. Additionally, the staff are very kind and helpful. The library also has a mini cafe within if you ever get hungry while studying and want a quick bite. I enjoy coming here to study because there's always tables for you to study. They also have a mini children's library on the first floor which is cute and kid friendly! The big con for me about this place would be the limited number of printers and the slow pace of printing. I printed only 10 pages but the printing job took about 20 mins to complete. I try to avoid printing here if I can. Otherwise a nice place! :) read more

This library is the most tranquil and motivating place to go to if you want to focus and get work done. It's a public library so all are welcome to get a library card and read until you can't read anymore. There are five different floors being one of the largest public libraries in Florida. There is a small convenient cafe located downstairs that sell sushi, sandwiches, salads, and other sweet treats to enjoy. There are study rooms that you can rent out for free if needed for maximum concentration. There is always a table to sit at. And to top it off they just got brand new comfortable chairs to sit at! The second floor is also brand new and renovated with amazing cushion seats as well. If you want to talk with a group they offer a collaborative room on the third floor which enables you to study and talk to whoever you are with so you dont disturb anyone else on the other floors. The staff is ALWAYS friendly and welcoming if you have any questions. The library frequently offers free children events such as story time and crafts on the first floor and sale events which they have sold various book for a cheap price. The library on Nova's main campus has been my base camp during bar prep. You may find me on the 4th floor every weekend from open to close, working through lectures, questions, and practice essays in hopes of passing the bar exam. The library is spotless, and has plenty of study space. It's also pretty high tech, and offers a lot of different resources that may help with whatever academic task you are there to accomplish. There's a cafe downstairs too! Their hours are fairly limited though, so check on Nova's website before you go. read more

As a Nova grad student I spend a disproportionate amount of time in libraries. The one over on the HPD campus where all my classes are is claustrophobically small. Convenient for me when I need to kill time between classes or print stuff but it's only one floor and gets VERY crowded during exam weeks. Since my boards are looming I needed to find somewhere else to study. I love the fact that the upper floors here have somewhat of a view. The back of the building overlooks the lake with the big shark fin which is nice to look at if you have to be stuck in a library for hours. There is a computer lab on the second floor, a children's library on the first and a cafe if I remember correctly. Classrooms as well although I've never been in them. This does function as a public library as well. The top floors are mostly stacks with movable shelves which kind of scare me seeing as you could get crushed if someone else tries to move them and you're in between another one. You can reserve the study rooms online or on the main level, or use the big tables or study caddies. The architecture of the building is really pretty-the entire center of all the upper floors is cut out so you can see down to the lobby. It kind of decreases the amount of floor space but it makes for an interesting floor plan. The grand staircase going up to the second floor is all marble and there is a gorgeous artsy "glass garden" near the computer lab. Definitely prettier than the HPD library although we have a skeleton that is dressed in seasonal attire :D read more

I was attending here when this was built and I have to say, it has held up well. The lighting is great and there are plenty of comfortable places to study. Good connectivity and study rooms that you can reserve as well. Not too bad if you need to go somewhere quiet. It is a public library, so no ID cards needed. There's also a nice little cafe downstairs, but its kind of hidden, so look around. Decent food and pretty cheap. Good soups. The library also houses a nice gallery with various museum quality showings throughout the year. read more

I love this library! I gave it 4 stars because I don't like that you have to pay for parking although there are few libraries that don't. So, a full day of studying for me, not being a student there is a no go. I do, however, take my kids there very often. They have many kids events and a huge kids area that my kids love going to. They have a very large selection of books and everything I look for is usually there. Highly recommend!!! read more

This library is great. I don't go to school at Nova but when I am on breaks from my college and need a place to study I go here. The floor plan is really cool but it does sacrifice the amount of floor space for people to study. The library is quiet and clean. BUT a few times a year there's a freaking kid's party/event with loud DJ INSIDE the library which you can hear clearly on the top floor. Studying is impossible. I absolutely have no idea who could ever approve of that. PSA: I understand that it sucks to pay for parking as a non-student but if one does some exploring there's actually free visitor parking on campus and you can be there all day. When I was home for the summer taking online courses for my college I studied in the library all the time and never had a problem with parking. read more

This library has little use for study/ research if your using the guest WiFi. I live in Weston and decided to try it out instead of driving to school in Miami. The speeds never exceed 2-3 mb/s and qbanks like uworld/Kaplan take what feels like an eternity to start. read more

The Alvin Sherman Library offers some great programs for kids, particularly if you happen to have an autistic child. However, it is also an excellent research library. The reference staff is very help for people with class assignments and research projects. read more

This is the best library I've ever been to its huge when I mean huge it's 5 stories wide and you can check out video games , movies , shows and music CDs. They also have good books that choose from but when you go in you loose your cell signal. On the fourth floor is where i like to check out the books they have everything from blues history to quantum mechanics for beginners of you want to go to a good library go to this one. read more
