Avoid this company if possible, I work for the state and this company is somehow offered in our OGB, and its terrible. The customer service is awful, most have no idea what they are talking about, and you have to go through so many reps to finally find 1 that even understands their insurance. They do not support their customers, they will side with the provider, and refuse to uphold their fee schedules they have in contract, allowing the provider to charge you more than agreed to, and have no point in using an in network provider. RUN from this company and find a better one. They pay nothing towards orthodontics, the least they could do is have the in-network discount, and they don't even ensure that is followed. I broke my femur on October 25, 2022. After hospitalization and surgery I went to rehabilitation for two months. The first month I was immobilized with pain and trauma and could not transfer money from savings to checking. As a consequence, when the automatic payment was declined, my membership was terminated. It was terminated on November 30th. On December 29 I received a letter from Starmount dated December 20, that if payment was received by Nov 30th I would be terminated. I was never given any lead time or a chance to correct the error. I'm assuming this company's sole purpose is to actually drive away paying clients. read more

My optometrist let me TRY contacts, but wrote a glasses prescription as well just in case. Turns out I can't wear contacts, so I go to get my glasses. They tell me they can't get an authorization from Always because my opt filed as a "contacts fitting". So I have to go back to my opt and pay $50 to reimburse for the mistake they made-understandable. 2 months later, Always says opt never paid them, but we BOTH have proof - and I STILL can't get glasses...!!! I'm so fed up with this place! I can't get them to contact my opt to verify the payment, nor will they give me authorization to get glasses filled! read more

This is a poorly run excuse for a business. If you need dental insurance, go to Physician's Mutual and select a plan. This company never contacts you once you sign up and doesn't even have plan information online. I was signed up with them when I went on Medicare. Every year, they take the entire year's premium out in one lump sum. But the best part is they never send me any kind of email or regular mail notification warning, they just do it. So surprise, right here at the holidays they empty my account of what I'd saved for Christmas. I've always had to pay most of the dental bill with this so called insurance. Since there are hardly any complaints, I guess most people have already dumped this company or quickly realized what a scam it is. I'm glad I finally found a reputable company. read more

By far the worst benefit provider. Website literally takes minutes to loadeach page. Does not accept photo claims, only .pdf scanned or faxed, denies claims without notification as to why, and as the insured you have to call them to find out they have denied a claim or need something different that what you submit. Oh, and know that they will need something different no matter what you submit. I can only assume people get frustrated And give up when dealing with this provider. All I can assume is that it is a tactic to make one give up. There is not a zero star review, otherwise they would get a zero. Simply horrible. read more

I've had Starmount dental insurance for 9 years and through the years I've been denied every single claim I've ever submitted. They blanket deny every claim submitted this company is a total rip off and when calling and talking to representative they can not ever tell me or my dental office the exact reason the claims are denied. read more

I see so many negative reviews that I needed to include my positive one. We have used AlwaysCare for several years through my work. While payment is a bit slow at times when using an out-of-network provider, it's not unreasonable. I have never been asked by my dentist to pay more than agreed co-pay amount. No insurance company is perfect, but we have never had any problems with AlwaysCare. They have done exactly what their policy indicates...so I have never had to call them. Give them a fair shake and not just base it off of some yelp reviews. read more

I would give this company 0 stars if it let me. I had a wisdom tooth removed in November of 2021 and they were supposed to reimburse me for a few hundred dollars of the $2300 procedure. I've been having to call them weekly for months because the first time they sent the check to an address I had removed from my file 2 and a half years prior. After that they told me that the check would be sent to my new address in 10 business days. I call back 12 days later to find out that it would be 15 days from the day that they send it and they would be sending it within the next 5 days. I'm on the phone with them as I type this and as of right now there is no record of the check having ever been reissued. Yet my monthly bill comes out of my account right on schedule. Horrible company to work with, slow processing, does not accept ERA attachments, have to email and fax separate of each other the attachments and claims. no way to look online or call to see status of claim or even if they received it. If you have the option, I would absolutely not recommend using this company for vision insurance and DEFINITELY not order any contacts/glasses through the website. My employer used this company & it was the only option for vision insurance. I had an annual vision exam (no difficulty with this payment on my end) and then made the mistake of ordering contacts through THEIR OWN website thinking it would be simple. Wrong. This occurred in September, it is now November, and a representative just said it could take 30 days longer for my claim to go through, then another 7 business days for the contacts to actually ship. Apparently, they contract all orders out to another company and just love to blame one another for delays. When I asked why they recommend using this company for products if it's so poorly run, she said they didn't. Even though it's entirely through the Always Care website. What?! Two stars because I have found some very helpful staff members that tried their best to help, mixed in with the other unhelpful, unapologetic ones that offered no explanations. read more

This place is absolutely horrible. I was on it for an individual plan and for some reason the payments weren't going through but they never let me know and all of my other payments were going through on their end and they dropped my plan and refused to reinstate me without notifying me. I literally had my dentist office call and make sure the service I was having done was covered and AlwaysCare said yes. Now they aren't going to pay for it despite LISTENING TO THE PHONE CALL AGAIN AND HEARING THE REPRESENTATIVE SAY IT WAS OKAY. They tried to act like they couldn't find the call because there were no notes. Well a rep slipped up and told me there were so I called out the supervisor for lying. Then they wanted me to call my dentist and said they couldn't cover it unless the random secretary I spoke to could remember the name of the random rep from the phone call... from months before. THEN I literally trapped them into finding the call-and despite the rep saying so ON THAT SAME CALL LOG....they still aren't going to pay their half ...they even said they're keeping every dollar I've paid in- despite telling me they wouldn't pay for a single service... ....it's so much worse than a scam. They robbed me. I'm now 1200 dollars out and no way to afford it. I didn't have enough money to afford the first half my service but... i saved up so long... and now they left me with another half to pay... I'm trying to warn anyone else from having their life so brutally damaged. They didn't care even when they verified they were at fault. I am so glad it is open enrollment so I can change dental insurance companies. They work so hard at not paying claims. I have been out of network and my son is always in network - but if you need any work done at all - the amount they pay is so minimal!! My son's dental bill was $745.00. They paid $235.00 and that was in-network. Pay a little more with another company and you won't be disappointed. This insurance is not really insurance! I elected for AlwaysCare Dental insurance for a year and a half and never had an issue! For the cost of my premium, coverage was good and they have a good selection of dentists. When I received employer sponsored dental it was easy to cancel by calling them. The only huge con is their website is abysmal. read more

They failed to process the payment, then sent a cancellation notice four weeks later with a respond date that had already passed. Horrible service! When the young lady answered the phone, she answered as if she didn't want to bothered. She asked for the DOB of the member so I gave it along with my daughters name. She then ask the name on the account and I stated it and gave mines as well. She then asked, how could she help. I simply asked if she could tell me a dentist thats in their network in my area for my daughter and she told me that she couldn't give me ANY INFORMATION ON THE ACCOUNT being that I wasn't the account holder and then stated that she could refer me to their PUBLIC website to check. I would give a zero if I could. This company's vision claim service is terrible. You send them in, keep checking your online account and it keeps saying no claims pending. You send it a second and third time. Same problem. They are absolutely horrible. Then, when the claim is finally processed, assuming you haven't died of old age, they pay so little it was hardly worth the effort or the premiums you've paid year after year. Ugh. I've now had AlwaysCare Vision insurance through my employer for 3+ years and I dread having to submit my claims every year. First, I get an auto-email saying my claim was received. Second, I never hear anything more until months have passed. They seem to conveniently lose my annual contact lens reimbursement claim every year even though it's submitted electronically via email and I have proof it was submitted and I got the confirmation email of its receipt. If I'm lucky, I get my reimbursement check back 4-6 months later after fighting with their Claims Dept. Every. Single. Year. I'm seriously beginning to wonder if these guys are sheisters who just try to delay payment as long as they can to see what they can get away with NOT processing. You really have to call and email and badger them to get any sort of response. If you have a choice, do NOT go with this company! I only suffer through it because it's an employer-paid benefit. read more
