During a mid-week trip to Liverpool, myself, my mum and my sister decided to check out Amalia Italian restaurant close to the city centre. We were having a belated mothers day trip away (for my Mum!) due to her obsession over visiting The Cavern Club in L'pool during the week.
We chose Amalia as it was en route from our apartments to Matthew Street - where all The Beatles themed bars are. We didn't book as it was a wednesday evening, but mark my words - please book! At 7pm it was really busy, and we were very lucky to only have to wait for 10-15 mins. After we arrived, a queue formed at the door and some groups were waiting at least 30 minutes for a table.
So this place ia a real authentic Italian, with an extensive menu providing soooo many dishes. We shared a Caprese salad starter along with Chicken Croquettes, which came fried with a garlic mayo dip. The croquettes were delicious, but came on a plate of 5, which were large in size and very filling. For the mains, they feature a huge list of pizzas, calezones, pastas, fish dishes and meats, so much so that it took me ages to decide. 10/10 for menu choice - something for everyone.
I almost went for the Chicken Milanese - breaded chicken italian style with spaghetti napoli on the side. But last minute I went for the sundried tomato ravioli with prawns and a white wine sauce. My sister went for the 4 seasons pizza, my mum the lasagne.
One thing myself and my mum noticed is that with it being a real family ran place, the pasta was really thick. Like real traditional Italian pasta. Which was great, but so so filling. The ravioli also came with around 15-20 ravioli pieces, which made it impossible to finish. But at least it was value for money!
The pizzas look the best choice here, and they also do a calezone challenge (not too sure what it involves but seems this place is popular for it)
A glass of sauvignon was fairly pricey - around £6.50 a glass. But really really tasty!
Would recommend if you are looking for an Italian in Liverpool, just remember to book, don't order a starter if having pasta, and buy a bottle of wine and not a glass! read more
