This is a beautiful restaurant in an unexpected location. My husband and I were visiting family in…read morethe local area and got a recommendation from a Hunter Valley winery so we took my parents there for a special dinner during our trip. We were certainly not disappointed! All of the tables look to be in perfect locations, beside the river and with unobstructed water views. We received great table service from our waiter, a secondary waiter and both the front of house and chef owners. We started with some incredibly delicate local scallops, roasted garlic bread, beef carpaccio with an Australian twist, and a variety of oysters. We moved onto roasted duck, local cod with lemon risotto, veal mignon. Both of the veal dishes were meant to be medium rare but one came out much more cooked, so they promptly recooked the dish and made things right. With such a small kitchen staff, I certainly understand the chance things won't go right and appreciated how quickly they fixed the issue and how open they were to remaking it. We also enjoyed their wine list, which was compiled of boutique Hunter Valley wineries rather than just the big names. The owner let us know she visits all the wineries and makes choices based on the authenticity and building partnerships in the local region, which helped create a memorable experience for us. At the end of the day, this is a beautiful restaurant without the extreme costs associated with many of the restaurants on the other side of the bay! They created a warm and inviting environment and I'd certainly visit again. We've been to several hatted and Michelin-starred restaurants and the experience was on par with those but still quintessentially Australian.

We went to the take away side thinking we would bring pizzas home to eat but after waiting a few minutes for people ahead of us to be served, a lady came in and told us we were welcome to eat in the restaurant. The menu was extensive, with traditional & a few more diverse choices of wood fired pizza. We chose 2 large pizzas for the 4 of us: a BBQ chicken pizza and a ham, olive, mushroom & artichoke. They were both delicious with a crispy thin base and a generous but not thick covering of cheese & topping... my idea of pizza perfection. There was a good selection of wine & beers too. After we had eaten most but before we had finished, the lady who served us came to say she was leaving but we could stay as long as we liked and just to pay the fellow on the take away side when we were ready. Fabulous service & delicious pizzas... can't ask for better than that!

I found my pizza a bit oily but not unpleasant. My wife on the other hand thought it looked like all ingredients came from a jar, so much so, she could actually taste the jar. :) The service was friendly but a bit funny. We asked for olives on half of the kids Margherita and, after the face the server pulled, we settled for a bowl of olives on the side. Then the pizza arrived loaded with oregano, which isn't bad in itself but, given we told the server the kids would share it, it would have been nice if they had toned it down a notch or at least asked about it.
