I started with coffee, bread and dips and progressed to a Rum Diary cocktail once the coffee had worked its magic on my migraine (along with my own prescription meds!). In the back there's an eatery / bistro area with a menu heavy in burgers and hot dogs and parmies and schnitties and everything fried and American and good in this world. Anything fried chicken is seriously great. I had the southern fried chicken burger with fat fluffy chips and I've never been so happy. We started with some incredibly delicate local scallops, roasted garlic bread, beef carpaccio with an Australian twist, and a variety of oysters. We moved onto roasted duck, local cod with lemon risotto, veal mignon. Both of the veal dishes were meant to be medium rare but one came out much more cooked, so they promptly recooked the dish and made things right. With such a small kitchen staff, I certainly understand the chance things won't go right and appreciated how quickly they fixed the issue and how open they were to remaking it. We also enjoyed their wine list, which was compiled of boutique Hunter Valley wineries rather than just the big names. The owner let us know she visits all the wineries and makes choices based on the authenticity and building partnerships in the local region, which helped create a memorable experience for us. At the end of the day, this is a beautiful restaurant without the extreme costs associated with many of the restaurants on the other side of the bay! They created a warm and inviting environment and I'd certainly visit again.
