The bridal boutique that I bought my wedding dress at recommended Amazing Alterations for all of my dress needs. Because I bought a sample dress I needed not only alterations but a cleaning. I was able to call Amazing Alterations and get my appointments booked with ease. I scheduled three fittings, it started about two months prior to the wedding date and the last appointment was two weeks before the wedding. Overall I would recommend Amazing Alterations. The seamstress I worked with was extremely knowledgeable and gave a lot of insight to things I hadn't considered. I would give her 5/5 Yelp Stars. I do wish they would have been a little more Covid conscious as there were no mask guidelines despite how close you are to someone during the fitting process. The only reason I did not rate this establishment five stars is because on both my first appointment and second appointment I was charged incorrectly and I was the one who had to point it out. Being overcharged happens but their system appeared a little wonky because it took a while for them to figure out the mistake and how to fix it. I didn't feel 100% confident in what I was charged for either time. So while I recommend the shop I would also recommend checking over your bill and making sure you know what you were charged for. I searched high and low in the Twin Cities to find someone who can do vintage restoration- I've been wanting to restore my Grandpa's letterman sweater for years. I finally happened upon Amazing Alterations. Elizabeth took such great care and time with my grandpa's sweater. When I brought it in, she took the time to sit with me and talk about my hopes & wishes for the sweater. She was clear & transparent with timeline and pricing. It was finished almost two weeks early. They were able to repair all the holes, affix some patches that weren't previously attached, new buttons, and elbow patches. The staff was amazing with altering a dress for my daughter. It turned out beautifully and done within a pretty short window of time. The one criticism I'd give is the lack of faith put into my daughter's suggestion about color. The tailor felt she knew best and the end result, although is beautiful, would have looked even better had my daughter's color choice been given a true consideration and done. I'm late writing my review, but after looking at my wedding photos again, I need to. I decided to wear a black wedding dress for my Halloween wedding. I found a dress on Amazon that I liked, and I knew it would need to be altered. I was referred to Amazing Alterations by a friend. The dress (when it arrived from Amazon) didn't exactly fit like a glove, and I knew the seamstress would have their work cut out for them. I needed to have a bustle added to my train, the sides taken in, and it shortened by a few inches, etc. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They listened to what I wanted and were happy to help. They quoted over $500 for alterations..... but hey, most dresses cost thousands of dollars. My biggest issue..... they used clear buttons for my bustle. This wouldn't be an issue on a white dress. But it caused them to "glare" and reflect light in almost all of my wedding pictures. I was really bummed about that. It made it look like I had cheap snaps attached to the back of my dress. I will still give them a decent review, but would like the seamstress to know - next time a black wedding dress comes in, use black buttons for the bustle. I went in for my initial fitting, was given the itemized bill, and paid the deposit. When leaving with my dress after my final fitting, the new bill had an additional $200 charge that they had forgotten to add initially. No one called to notify me of this, and it was quite a shock to see the new price (3 days before my wedding). Also, during both of my appointments, the staff talked about themselves the WHOLE time and did not seem interested in how I felt in the dress. As far as alterations, the bust cup they put in was not tacked down very well (even after we asked them to fix it) and I had to use a lot of fashion tape on my wedding day. I had a different experience than the other Yelpers. Positives first: - Nice atmosphere. They tailor (harhar) to brides and try to make it an "experience" more than just a trip to the alterations place. Its nicely decorated and cozy. Kind of antique "shabby chic". - Prices seemed reasonable. - She also offered jewelry, hoop skirts, headpieces, etc. in the shop. Negatives: I brought my wedding dress in a few months before it had to be ready. I didn't have anything very difficult that needed to be done, but it took FOUR visits (plus a fifth to pick the dress up) to get everything done. I still had plenty of time, but I didn't appreciate having to run back so many times. I had to have a bustle, halter strap alteration, length shortened and bust cups put in. - Bustle. Seemed to be fine, but the night of the wedding the (short) train kept coming unhooked. Someone had to wrap the hooks around the button a few times to try to keep it up. - Half way through the night one of stitches of the bust cups came out and it fell halfway out. These did not seem to actually be sewn in to place - rather just some loose "basting" type stitches. - The length. Ugh. THREE TIMES at fittings I complained about the dress being too long. Each time they tried to "fix" it - and I'd walk around the store and they told me "oh, you won't be walking that fast that night. It'll be fine." Well, it wasn't. I had to lift/carry the bottom of my dress around ALL NIGHT. People were stepping on it (and it ended up tearing the back of my dress where it was bustled!!!!) and it was a PITA to dance in because I had to hold it up. Completely disappointed about this - not only did I look ridiculous, but now my dress is torn. I showed up to one of the fittings (I think after the first time I complained it was still too long) and they had sewn a "tuck" right smack dab in the middle of my dress, front a center, through my chiffon skirt. It was in the COMPLETELY wrong place, and TOTALLY noticable. I have NO Idea how such a horrible mistake could have been made! Even a novice would have known not to do that. My mother also brought in her dress for alterations. She needed to have the shoulders taken up. They did it, but seemed to just fold the extra fabric back in, instead of cutting it out, and it looked like she had lumps on her shoulders. All in all I was pretty disappointed after everything happened. I have a dress now that is torn (probably cannot resell - which was my plan) and memories of tripping over, getting stepped on and carrying around my dress on my wedding night instead of being able to just ENJOY it. So....if you want an "experience" where they ooh and ahh over how pretty and sparkly your dress is - this is the place! But if you want some good solid alterations, you might want to try some place else. read more

I cannot say enough about Amazing Alterations. I wish I could give ten stars!!!!! I bought my wedding dress from Annika bridal in Minnesota. I then shipped my dress to Philadelphia (where I live). I got alterations in Philadelphia where I was told that the only way to bustle my dress was to remove all of the layers from the back of my dress and just leave the top two layers. I was heartbroken when I received my dress with the alterations. It looked completely different (see photos) and the woman basically laughed when I asked if we could sew the layers back in. This happened on the Monday before our Saturday wedding in Minneapolis. I called Amazing Alterations on a whim, nearly chickening out from making the call because I felt so ridiculous asking for a Thursday appointment for a Saturday wedding (THREE DAYS before). They didn't bat an eye and made me an appointment for Thursday after our plane landed. I brought it in just hoping to feel better talking to people who cared-and they did care-SO MUCH! They were so nice! I would have left happy to just talk to them about the dress. But my mind was blown when Lindsey looked over the dress and said, "So, time is not an issue." She explained they would just sew all the layers back in. I came back less than 24 hours later to pick up my dress-completely restored to its original look with a new bustle design that held up all its layers with absolutely no issue-and it looked cute! They honestly could have charged me whatever they wanted at this point-but their pricing was reasonable too. WHO ARE THESE MAGICAL DRESS WIZARDS??? I'm in love. Please take your dress here. I had 2 wedding dresses dropped off to get cleaned and preserved. One for my sister, and one for myself. It has been over 2 months now so I figured I'd call and check the status of the dresses. Every single time I call, no one answers. I have now tried calling every weekday for the last week, and no one has answered the phone. I have also left 2 voicemails in the last week, and still.. no one has called me back. Also sent an email today, maybe they know how to work that since clearly they do not know how to use a phone. I bought my dress at Kleinfelds in NY and wanted a place that would not only give the same quality of work, but same customer service. After reading a ton of reviews I decided to try Amazing Alterations. My experience was up and down but over all the work they did was superb. Customer service, on other hand can use some work. I'll first say that the ladies who work in the salon surpassed my expectations.. Especially Therese and Jean. My first appt was great and I was happy I chose AA to work on my dress. I came into second appointment feeling super overwhelmed and alone as I am not from Minnesota and didn't have anyone to take to appointment. I'm in my second year of law school, had finals that week, the wedding was in 14 days, and I was petrified my dress wasn't going to fit as I have lost almost 100 pounds from the time I purchased it. I came in just super overwhelmed. But my amazing experience from 1st appt with Therese and the fact that they deal with stressed brides everyday, they would be able to handle the situation in a professional and compassionate way. Right from start when I got into the room where they cut the tulle, I felt super disrespected by the woman working on my dress, who I now know is the owner. When I explained I was uncomfortable and didn't like the way the dress fit (my back was hanging over dress). She was extremely rude and it was as if I annoying her by asking questions. She kept talking down to me like I was a child for expressing emotion. She was not compassionate and kept getting more annoyed and then it gets better- She would have me walk down the hallway to make sure I wouldn't trip and every time I turned around to walk towards her she was texting. Call me crazy but a little compassion to a clearly overwhelmed person, much less customer, goes along way. My 3rd apt 2 days before the wedding went great. Everything went perfect. When I noticed the veil was a different shape (they had to change the way the cut it so it changed the shape). Not a big deal but I asked my consultant about the difference. It wasn't a huge deal but it was clearly different. The owner in the next room rudely chimes in saying "We wouldn't just cut your veil without your permission" not knowing what we were talking about. Which in fact they did have to make a change but just the fact she tried to intervene just to start trouble. The consultant came back and explained yes they did have to change it because it wouldn't have looked right. Glad I will only be married once and would say the work is not worth the experience. That, AND the people who work there are extremely nice. The woman who worked with me to do my alterations was funny, down to earth, and made me feel at ease. She was talented and professional yet I never felt she was trying to sell me extra things I didn't need. The service is great until after they get your money (which, conveniently, is BEFORE they do any alterations) and then they treat you like an inconvenience when you come back in for another fitting. Whoever the seamstress is was rude, impatient, and condescending. My mom sewed all of the clothes for me, my brothers and sisters when we were growing up, so I know a thing or two about sewing - clothes included. But when I tried to ask her questions about ways to address the issues that were still persistent with my bridesmaid dress at my "final fitting" she dismissed me like I couldn't possibly know what I was talking about and, surprise surprise, my dress STILL doesn't fit right. read more

I had a great customer service experience here. 7 weeks before my wedding, I called around to 5 different alterations places and left messages for my wedding dress needs and Amazing Alterations immediately called back and set an appointment for the next week with me. I got a great vibe over the phone an it only got better when I arrived at their location. It is very cozy and a total girl haven. Brenda was very receptive, it was my mothers dress and I needed to do a reconstruction. I had the sleeves removed, the dress re-bustled (a complicated process with the very long train that she made look fabulous!!) some bling added to give it an update and she turned the sleeves into a garter!! I had told her going in that I was on a pretty tight budget and that worked out just fine because her pricing is soooooo reasonable. I also bought a hoop skirt from her and had her attach bust cups to the dress. The work looks great and I feel like I got a steal with this place. I was recommended to Amazing Alterations by a bridal shop and wish I did not take that recommendation. For the first 2 appointments I had to wait an hour before I was able to be seen. I felt that they were careless with my time and should have been ready to see me when I had scheduled an appointment way in advance. After my second appointment I knew I had went to the wrong alterations shop. There were several times that they wanted to alter my dress a certain way that I did not want. I had to say no to there suggestions over and over and over. I'm assuming they wanted to alter it this way because it would be easier and less time consuming for them. They seemed to be extremely busy and did not have the time to spend with me that was needed in altering my wedding dress. When you are spending thousands of dollars on a wedding dress you want the alterations to be perfect. At the second alteration the straps were rubbing the back of my arms and causing the skin to be raw and red almost bleeding. The suggestion was to sew fabric to the straps and it would cost $18. What a waste of $18! The fabric did absolutely nothing and the straps cut my skin through my wedding day causing it be very painful! And I had to wear band aids on the back of my arms which wasn't the look I was going for in my wedding pictures. If you are looking for a tailor that will respect your time, respect the look you are asking for with your dress, and alter it correctly I would not recommend Amazing Alterations. read more

My first experience with Brenda and the team was when my BFF asked me to be in her wedding and lo and behold, I find out I'm pregnant. Everyone assured me this wouldn't be a big deal as most women supposedly don't gain that much with their first pregnancy. The team at Amazing Alterations kept close tabs to ensure the dress would fit as I packed on over 65 pounds. As the wedding date neared it became apparent that the dress was slightly too small, and they were able to work up a solution to ensure I could still wear the dress. I was still able to be in the wedding party and the only thing that stuck out was my huge belly! My second experience was a few weeks ago when red wine was spilled on my favorite dress. I sent it to the dry cleaners twice, to no avail. Dejected, I brought it to Amazing Alterations to see if they could possibly alter the dress to work around the stains. This was not going to be possible. Brenda came out to take a look and had some ideas, one of which was to have her team see if they were able to lift the stains. I left my beloved dress with them, hoping for the best. Convinced there was no way the stains would come out and not quite ready to say goodbye, I subconsciously blocked out my pick up appointment. A few days later, I received a voice mail. "Hi, it's Ashley with Amazing Alterations. I have your dress ready for pick up, and I think we were able to remove all the stains". I couldn't believe my ears and scheduled the pick-up for the next morning. I apprehensively walked into their beautiful space and wondered if this is how grooms feel when they see their bride for the first time. Had my bridesmaid dress altered here because the bride was having her dress altered here. As far as I know she had no problems. However, my dress was made wayyy too tight. As in we barely got it zipped up (I needed help from 2 other bridesmaids... extremely embarrassing). Once we did, it was tough to breathe. The dress was way too tight around my shoulders, so much in fact that I had red marks all around them and they were sore for 2 days afterwards! Also, the hem was not done as short as I requested (to end right above the knee). The shop was cute, everyone was pretty nice however I certainly won't be going there again. Unfortunate since I have my wedding coming up next year and I'll just have to chance it with someone else. read more

I was excited to work with this tailoring shop after reading good reviews, and my first two appointment seemed to go fine, but my final fitting was a disaster. I came in on-time for my appointment and waited almost 30 minutes before being taken back, after asking the receptionist. Then, I was disappointed to see only an assistant as I tried on my gown, not Brenda herself (who I had worked with at the first two appointments). I asked if/when I would see Brenda, and was told I could see her if needed. She finally came out about 30 minutes later. The hem length seemed too long, and the hem also looked uneven. The sleeves were still not attached at that point, even though we had confirmed sleeve fit at the second visit. Brenda started cutting the hem right there with me in the dress, shorter than I had wanted it - not confirming the length with me in the moment very well. I was stressed but tried to just trust her judgment. I was told to leave and get coffee and come back when everything was done. When I came back an hour later to pick up the dress (finally), the hem seemed a little off but okay, and the sleeves appeared to have been sewn on for me in a rush, with messy handiwork, beads coming loose, and bunching/wrinkling and an uneven appearance. Brenda told me to just use fashion tape. It wasn't until I got home that I realized I needed to get a second opinion, and when I tried on the dress once more, I found the underlayer was not serged - it was just the raw unfinished edge, already fraying and getting stepped on! Thankfully, I found another tailor who was able to fix all of these mistakes and re-sew my sleeves for me. The one saving grace for Amazing Alterations was that they did complete the bustle correctly for me (French under-bustle), and Brenda did give me a refund for the pieces of the dress that were unfinished/incorrectly done, after I called to complain. I appreciated the refund, but I will not be coming back to them in the future. read more

I had a rather delicate wedding dress (lots of lace and beading) and brought it to Amazing Alterations less than a month before my wedding to have the shoulder straps altered, create a bustle, and to tighten it a bit around the chest area. They completed the alterations in time and it only took two trips total. The dress fit perfectly. The bustle was gorgeous. The wedding coordinator at my venue, who used to work at a bridal store, was helping me with my bustle the day of the wedding and kept saying that this was the easiest bustle she's ever seen given the intricate detail.
