As I arrived, a gentleman stepped out of the back of the office claiming he'd been there over an hour and hadn't been seen. I didn't pay much attention until I'd sat in the waiting room over 45 minutes, finally asking status and saying they're 45 minutes past my appointment time. The desk lady (think Monique?) was extremely curt and said she had no clue. I pressed asking her to check with a nurse in the back to give me some idea, but was told she wouldn't do that and it could be a while still. After pressing a few more times she finally admitted the doctor was in with a patient and still had another new patient to see before me...so it could still be an hour. An hour...after being already 45 minutes late? I asked if she had my phone number, she said yes, so I said I'd go run an errand or two and text me when they're getting close. She claimed she could not text, to which I replied you're welcome to call me or send an email. Desk lady was having none of it and told me she's "not going to do that". I tried reasoning with her saying it's extremely unprofessional to be that far behind and to not give other appointment patients a heads up, using analogies of dinner and flight reservations. She couldn't be bothered. I told her to refund my money and I'd go elsewhere. I'm sorry...but as a retiree who built a professional career on setting proper expectations, communicating effectively, negotiating efficiently, etc, this was unacceptable! As that was the "level of service" they were willing to offer, I highly recommend people take their medical business to an office that does care about the client experience.

When seeing her for sick visits, she reminds me of the wellness and up-keep types of things: the things we tend to forget : flu shot, bone-density, mammogram, skin check, etc. Surprisingly, she will attend to all of my problems in one visit, instead of giving you the schpiel that the insurance company only lets them solve one issue per visit, which I have heard from other doctors. I came in urgently needing a same-day chest X-ray after a positive skin TB test. Before going in, I asked very clearly about their X-ray process and was assured multiple times that they could do it same day with same-day results. That turned out to be completely untrue. Because of the misinformation from the front desk--who clearly did not listen to anything I asked--I ended up waiting an extra day for a time-sensitive test required for my work. I was misled about their protocol, given incorrect answers, and treated like my questions were an inconvenience instead of important medical concerns. Then I was told I had to see a doctor before getting the X-ray, which led me to Dr. Mina Abazari. That visit was just as disappointing. She told me her assistants would "pull her out of the room" because she only had a limited amount of time with me--an incredibly unsettling thing to hear when you're there for something urgent. The whole appointment felt rushed, dismissive, and unhelpful. To make matters worse, when I asked for a referral to a cardiology specialist for preventative reasons, she discouraged it and essentially told me I didn't need one. It's honestly shocking in 2025 to encounter a physician who minimizes preventative medicine. The mindset felt outdated and completely out of touch. Will the times ever change? Here's the real kicker: after losing a full day because of Hoag's misinformation, I ended up going to Surfside Urgent Care--and they completed a chest X-ray and gave me results within an hour. Quick, clear, efficient, and zero runaround. I wish I had gone there in the first place instead of wasting time waiting to see a physician at Hoag. I'll be going to Surfside for all my future needs. Bottom line: I came for answers and left with delays, misinformation, frustration, and no sense of being heard or cared for. If you value communication, timely care, and a provider who actually listens, I would avoid this place.

She actually listens to my concerns and has never once made me feel like she was in a rush to end our appointment. I'm a bit of a worrier when it comes to my health concerns and she always helps me to feel at ease and talks me through options and concerns with a patient and calm demeanor. It is very clear that the well being of each and every one of her patients is important to her and that is rare to find. I feel so grateful to be under her care and confident I am in great hands with Doctor Sweetser. To add, I'm so happy with her new location at Hoag Medical in Foothill Ranch. The lobby is beautiful, the patient suites are clean and stylish, and the service is helpful and friendly. Going to the doctor has never been more fun!

So I was connected to Dr. Sweetser who was. She listened patiently to my concerns and asked me what the test results were. In a soothing manner she assured me that there was nothing to worry about. She's an old fashioned family doctor that as a medical professional I find completely competent. There's APA there or an NP by the name of Michaela who is just as sharp. She caught an issue on my high blood pressure meds that no one in the last 15 years has caught and by simply adding something to my meds it dramatically helped improve my blood pressure. I've read comments about not returning phone calls. She's called me twice already on some lab work. The first time she called Without me asking her to call she reviewed my blood work left me a voicemail. There was a issue with my fasting insulin which got me a little nervous I called back within 48 hours she rang me back and got me on the phone personally to address it. I asked her to create some new lab forms so I could have it tested again and she did it without question. I don't know what people expect from a doctor in today's world. There's the real world and there's the hypothetical world In the hypothetical world the Doctor will spend an hour and a half with you and find that every single issue that is of concern but in the real world to be able to survive financially a doctor cannot spend huge amounts of time with each patient and still stay in practice peter I ran a medical practice I could not spend any more than 10 or 15 minutes with each patient or I'd be out of business. I have nothing but good experiences to say and I've been there 4 months now on three separate occasions. My refills are easy to do there's been no argument about running prescriptions for me I would give it a 10 out of 10. I'll add one other point that you might want to take into consideration when looking at these negative reviews. A doctor that has a six week to 8 week waiting list is a popular doctor, and he or she is a popular doctor for a reason. Think about that.

This doctor may be competent but the practice is a complete mess. She lets an x-ray tech run the place because that person will be rude, confrontational and dismissive. So much for patient care. There are serious issues with professionalism, patient communication and follow up. There is no patient portal; phone calls are literally never returned; there is constant staff turnover and beware if you ever have to deal with the so-called medical director who is named multiple times in the reviews as in need of replacement. I second that. The doctor will not respond to calls or walk-in appointments. Even if your insurance covers it, they will not hold tele-health appointments until you put in your credit card number. What if you have no credit card or donʻt want the world to have your cc number when it isnʻt used? "Itʻs our vendor, we have no control over it." Change your vendor. This is health care, not profit care. The Physicians Assistant will not consult on the telephone. So either find a way to get to the office no matter how sick you are, or forget about it. When I did put in my credit card for the tele-health, the PA prescribed a medicine without noting that it was off the formulary. The co-pay cost me $430. The place is dark, dingy, completely unwelcoming and looks unsanitary. There is no written material to explain to new patients how to navigate the crazy way the practice operates. Staff are polite but depressed; check out Glass Ceiling to see what the staff really think about working there; it is not good. Find another doctor. This place is a nightmare.
