On busy days they require pre-booked reservations which can be made at no cost. I suggest planning 1.5 hours to see the highlights or recommendations found on the free map at each entrance. As with all London museums, there is security checking all backpacks, but this museum was checking for alcohol! When you see all the school teens sitting on the stairways (perhaps waiting for parents to pick them up?), then the alcohol check is understandable. Out of all the displays, my favorite was the dimly lit Treasures room. Each piece exhibited tells an important story beyond what you actually see like an Iguanodon tooth from the Mesozoic strata and found by Gideon Mantell (or his wife) and the rivalry that ensued between Mantell and Owen, who later usurped Mantell's contribution in discovering the first known dinosaur species and shaping the early understanding of dinosaurs. While I find the digital text for each display as being the true treasures, only 1-2 people can read at a time so you feel a bit rushed if you're a person (like me) who reads everything, yet people are behind you waiting their turn. In addition to the wonderful displays, there is a photo booth whereby you can have 3 photos taken against a green screen depicting a dinosaur encounter. What they don't tell you upfront is that the photos are NOT free and can be downloaded (depending on the package you choose) from £12 to £22 pounds. When I asked the staff for information on particular exhibits, I found them to be more than helpful and friendly, too. Allow time for this expansive gem.

When I went I saw online if you arrived by stagecoach (bus) and kept your tickets you get 50% off admission. We took the bus #60, picked up in front of cathedral. It is about 25 min ride and a 5 min walk from bus stop to museum. It is only once an hour when we went on Monday so keep an eye on timing. Nice on-site Cafe when you entered. I had a nice egg salad with streaky bacon sandwich with side salad for about £8. Hearty and tasty sandwich. Plan about 3 hours if you want to go through all the buildings. Some volunteer docents in the buildings and they film a BBC show on site as well. The coolest thing is they grind their own flour which you can buy at the store, 3.5 kgs for £3.50.

The staff stayed behind the desk but they were friendly and greeted everyone that entered. So, on our last day in London, we took the Underground to the South Kensington area to see the Victoria and Albert. It was well worth the effort of getting here. The V&A is awesome. And, like most of the museums in Britain it is FREE. We spent about 3 hours here and barely scratched the surface. You could easily spend a day (or days) in this museum.

This is a small and mildly diverting museum, probably best for fans of local history…read more The museum has its origins in the Littlehampton Natural Science and Archaeology Society and opened in 1928, housed initially in the town's library. It moved to a house in River Road in 1965 and to its present location in Manor House in 1991. It was refurbished in 1998. It's nicely laid out, with interactive elements to the permanent displays such as audio points, LCD visual displays, audio sound bites and an interactive touch screen. The collection probably won't, however, take more than half an hour to browse, unless you are a dedicated local. The galleries (more showcases, actually) cover the town's origins, some geology and prehistory, its links with the sea, railways, and the history of the town in the World Wars. Exhibits include some geological items, Victorian paintings of the town, artefacts from the Bronze Age to Roman periods, items rescued from wrecked ships, local war memorabilia, and a wide range of other miscellaneous items. One room hosts a changing series of exhibits such as local arts and crafts, and there is a small play area for children. Perhaps the best collection is that of small model ships, some of them displayed in a 'model harbour'. Free entry. The museum is open from 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday, and 10.30am to 4.30pm on Saturdays

As with the library, I found staff here outstanding in their assistance to our team. It is very much a local studies venue but covers an extensive area. The building is an absolute picture from an architect's view. Parking ok and close enough to town centre for lunch. Great fish and chipper round the corner!
