My experience with Amberton University has been very strong. I did extensive research before I decided on a master's program at this school. There were a few aspects of the university that made me decide to go with their program. Top of the list was excellent reviews by current and former students. Next, I wanted a program that would be extremely challenging, as I wanted a high quality education from a regionally accredited university. Last, I needed flexibility within my work schedule to be able to do my writing and research when I wanted. For me, Amberton fit all of these requirements. I am about halfway through my MS Human Resources, and I have been extremely pleased with the professors, and the education I have received. My GPA is high, but I have worked very hard for it. This school is not for the faint of heart, so be prepared to dedicate a lot of time to your class on reading and writing papers. Also, you must receive a 92% to achieve an A grade, 82% for a B, etc., and during undergrad I was on the standard scale of 90-100% being an A. The only reason I did not give Amberton five stars is due to their current online interface. Although they have made large strides in the past year to upgrade the online experience, there is minimal use of multimedia and interactive resources. Being a smaller school, I understand it takes a large budget to get there, but in my opinion this is the one area their programs are currently lacking. Once they fill this gap, it will be a five star experience. All in all, the education I have received has been extremely valuable, as I can apply it in real-time at my current position. I recommend this program to anyone who is serious about their academics, and wants to use their degree to succeed in the future. Amberton University is a school for working ADULTS. It was great to go to school with people my own age. I liked that this school didn't have excessive fees for things I didn't need. Parking is free, there is NO gym, and everyone is a commuter. All classes are in the evening, on Saturday mornings, or online. The professors understand that they are teaching working adults, and sometimes the demands of work or family cause us to miss class. They were ALWAYS willing to accommodate me. I had terrific professors at Amberton. Most of them have been there a long time, and I only had one adjunct while I was there. Classes were not huge, so I felt that I had the opportunity to get to know my profs. They were always available for office hours, which I frequented often. Best part about Amberton--the price. It is so much cheaper than other schools around. I got out of graduate school with no debt. Study groups were abundant. The book store was terrific about buying back my books. The staff was always helpful. The campus is not pretty. There are not a lot of degree choices or elective choices. This is truly a no frills university. Great for busy working adults looking to earn a business or counseling degree. Also great for those that do not need the extra frills of larger colleges and universities such as fraternities, sororities, clubs, and socials. Classes are held evenings, Saturdays, or Online. I earned my BBA in Information Systems and Technology 2005 taking 13 of 14 classes online. I will earn my MBA in project management in the Spring of 2015 by completing the entire 36 credit hours (12 courses) online. The online coursework can be fierce and requires as much dedication to your studies as attending the on-campus courses. The professors are gifted educators. Tuition is by far the most affordable of private colleges/universities in the DFW area. The semesters are 10-weeks long, so they go by pretty quickly. While I have kept a slow pace of 1 course per semester, I do have classmates that have taken 3 courses in a semester along with working full-time jobs and having active family lives. I find the diversity of classmates in the distance learning classroom to be one of the things I enjoy most. I have had classmates from all over the US and the globe with a variety of life experiences to share in the classroom discussion forums online. read more

Amberton is a great university. It is not your typical university because it is designed for working adults. I graduated with a Masters of Science degree in 2017 with the Human Resources Training and Development major. I have not been able to get a job in HR yet. It is not the school, but the major. Soon after graduation, I quickly discovered that the HR field is like a secret society & you get in because of who you know or you must have prior HR experience. Spoiler Alert.. you don't need a degree to enter into HR. It is best to get a job as an Administrative Assistant, move into the HR field, then get a degree to advance more in HR. I have spoken to 100s of HR graduates who can't get an HR job although they have a degree. Do YOUR RESEARCH on an industry BEFORE YOU PICK A MAJOR!!!!! read more

Amberton University is, in my opinion, a fantastic school to complete your undergraduate or graduate degree. I myself completed my MBA in Strategic Leadership and also earned a post-graduate certificate in Change Management. I was a traditional undergraduate student for about two and a half years after high school until my scholarships ran out. I went to work, intending to go back and finish my bachelor's degree, but did not do so for nearly ten years. In all I attended a community college, a huge state university, then finished my undergrad degree at a small state university taking night classes after work. I therefore had an opportunity to see how traditional trappings of college worked at three different brick and mortar schools. My full time job requires business travel, and therefore a traditional college evening or weekend class structure would have never worked for my MBA. Interestingly enough, the various in-state universities were all steering me into their online programs. Therefore, online degrees do not have the stigma that they had even ten years ago, as long as they also have a brick and mortar program as well. My state has particularly high tuition rates compared to many other states universities. Since I would be completing my degree online there was little reason to take my classes at an in-state program other than name recognition. The whole "branding" of universities, outside those of ivy league, is ridiculous. Far more important was the return on the investment. Attending an in-state university program online would have cost me between $69K - well over $100K. How many years would it take to pay that off? In my case Amberton's regionally accredited program was under $20K. Checking the quality of their online program it is rated for value in the top 10. Overall quality of the program was in the middle of all universities, in close rating to some of the schools I considered. These ratings met my needs. Regarding the effort - I liked that the books were often available either online or used. You do not have to use the school's bookstore. I rented most of mine, which saved me a lot of money. Be prepared to write. Be prepared to put in 10 -12 hours a week for each class you take. I typically took two classes a term. One term I took three classes, which in retrospect was nuts. You will need to spend more time during the mid-term week and towards the end of the term. You will be given requirements for papers. Many times they may say "write a paper of at least 3 pages that covers the following". Unless your Prof tells you "do not exceed 4.5 pages" or whatever, consider that a minimum requirement for a C grade. Writing more in depth will earn you a better grade. You also have to participate online. Read the requirements and do not short-change those. Contribute online making sure that you proof-read your submission thoroughly. I strongly recommend this institution for adults returning to finish an undergraduate degree or masters degree. It does not have the trappings of a huge state university, which I did not feel the need to have bundled into my tuition. I was there to learn, and felt it was a great value. You do, though get out of this program what effort you put into it. read more

Took an online class from Amberton on 1997. My professor didn't know the difference between a text document and a word document and dinged my grade because of that. I dropped that class after the drop date but had prepaid the class in full. They sent my accout to a collections agency even though the account was zero and paid in full. They said that it was their practice to automatically send accounts to collections if a student drops a class and doesn't reenroll or graduate. Things may have changed since then but they left a bitter taste in my mouth. read more

Very friendly and professional office staff and professors! I did not have problems with any of my professors once I figured out what quality of work they were looking for. I took one classroom course and the rest were online. Communication with the professors was efficient and meaningful. The degree plan was easy to follow, priced reasonably, and I was able to graduate sooner than I had originally projected. I really enjoyed the student diversity and the ease of scheduling time to study. This is a great school for the working adult. They accepted the majority of my transfer credits. Vey few of the used books required for my courses were priced over $100. I feel so much more confident having a college degree and I now have the ability to apply for so many more jobs. read more

This is an exceptional place to receive your education. One of my professors said repeatedly "A degree will get you a job, an education will make you successful in that job." Amberton has fulfilled my dream of both earning a degree in higher education as well as receiving a well-rounded education. My degree has set me apart from others during my career search, and during the interview process I confidently held my own against "Ivy League" graduates (who graduated with six figures of debt). In fact I was hired at a firm above thousands of applicants, at which I was more than prepared to lead in a middle management role. After befriending the HR manager who had interviewed me, out of curiosity I asked why I was chosen over graduates from more "reputable schools" her response was "Amberton is a reputable school, I've hired a handful of Amberton alumni and have always been impressed with their job performance." Amberton is a common sense approach towards an MBA or any comparable flexible education, after all you will not graduate with six figures of debt and the education is unsurpassed. read more
