Ambleside Beach has that quintessential Vancouver mix of ocean, mountains, and community. You can paddle board and play volleyball during the summer or enjoy a quiet and peaceful stroll during the winter. One of my favourite little spots is the pond along the edge of the beach, where I've spotted beautiful swans. It's the opposite of the busy seawall and a perfect place to watch nature. I especially love the nighttime here where you get to take in all the glory of the Lions Gate Bridge and the sparkling lights of the city. Really nice park along the coastline in West Vancouver. Parking is available along the coastline. Best to come early before the hordes show up. But the spots are free. Yay! The park is a fairly decent size and goes partially behind the back of Park Royal. Lots of random art exhibits along the coastal walk, as well as a random totem pole (Squamish Nation Welcome Figure). There's also a concession stand selling overpriced food. Can't comment as I was too poor to try. read more

Luckily we could find free parking spot near Earl's restaurant. But nomally finding the spot maybe challenging here. What a pleasant and beautiful park! When I compared the beaches in Vancouver, here is more family, elder people and disabled people friendly. And people behave so nice. No trash and nor loud music. I felt more peaceful than in Vancouver. There is a wheelchair accessible spot on beach. It made me cry. Good cry. What a great idea! This is a beautiful beach walk in West Vancouver. Take in views of the west side of Vancouver, Lionsgate bridge and the shores of West Vancouver. There are a variety of child friendly areas with playgrounds and sandy beaches. There are several washrooms located along the beach walk. If you are looking for a dog friendly area, there is a large area on the south east section of the park along the waterfront. There is a mini golf course nearby and The Boatshed, a great concession stand with a variety of breakfast, lunch or snack items. A must visit! read more

I really like this park, it's really beautiful and the people are quite friendly as well. I'm rarely in West Van but decided to bike here the other day. I know they used to allow bonfires here back in the day but not sure about now. There is a big field in the back as well as tennis courts. Parking is decent but like anywhere in the lower mainland when it's summer it's gonna be tough unless you get there early. There is also an off leash dog park as well. Why wouldn't i give anything less than 5 stars to this side of west Vancouver. this place has little bit of everything. Lets begin; Courts to play games- Yes! First of all there are tennis courts, football court, hockey court n few more stretching out on all long road that leads to the entrance of the park. Park with greenery spread along the pedestrian pathway to walk n to cycle( two separated lanes ) - But let me tell ya , its not your regular park. In fact the whole edge of the beach has green pastures spread to small little gardens along the walking pathway. Its dog friendly. I would say regular dogs are buddies to each other n they enjoy beach too as i saw many of them in groups playing with each other. (Another adorable sight apart from the horizon of ocean) Residential property along with shops to eat or to purchase beachside munchies- many different places to grab a bite are walking distance here. Nice restaurants like carmelo restaurante , chef michel are pretty close by too. Very busy whole time but especially summers. Washrooms and beach side shop to purchase food are on the beach stretch which is gravel going down n then gets sandy along the water waves. Bring your food, get a chair or spread a mat n just enjoy the sun. Maybe plan a beach workout or making sand castles and just come , visit here yelpers n non yelpers. I remember walking the length of the beach here once. It's quite a walk. If you have the time to spend here, it's worth a visit. My last trip here reminded me of just how lovely this place is. It can be quite serene at times. There is the large wooden dock (a few have mentioned this in their reviews.). For some this is their dream place. The beach, the park, the dock, the West Van-ness of it all.. I used to have a business here years ago and I can still say that the people in this neck of the woods are very very nice. Come and enjoy an afternoon stroll and just relax. Or re-live your youthfullness and take a swing on a swing! There is ample parking and wonderful shopping just up the streets. You could literaly spend a day here and let all that work week stress wash away. I'll post up some pics. read more

At the end of 15th past Bellvue there's a perfect little park and the west side of Ambleside beach. Benches overlooking the beach with a view of the Lion's Gate bridge to the East. I sat on the flood wall watching the Salmon fishing boats scatter and part as a HUGE Cruise Ship passed, and then a smaller one less than 10 minutes later. This is a wonderful spot to wander around and feel the pebbles under your feet. Just up on 15th, (1 minute away) is Crema. One of the best cafe's on the north shore. read more

The highlight of this park is its view: open water, a lovely point of view of Stanley Park and Vancouver skyline crawling from behind it. The off-leash dog area is nice, although the big rocks and pebbles don't seem to be very comfortable to the doggies' paws. Some sand is closer to the side walk which is busy all the time. Ambleside Park gets lots of points for its location, views, and amenities. It has a huge beach, plenty of grassy fields, decent parking, and a seawall trail that is a link in the bigger waterfront seawalk from Park Royal Mall all the way out to Dundarave. Ambleside also has lots of rules: no riding bikes or rollerblading on the seawalk, and dogs must be walked only in specific areas. These rules tend to be enforced not by cops and bylaw officers, but by scowling West Van matrons, making it all the scarier to risk a transgression. But beyond all that, there are few better beaches to hang out on to listen to the waves roll in, and to wave bu-bye to yet another cruise ship heading out into the sunset. Ambleside also features a large welcoming statue that will surely provoke titters when you look at it from the right angle. What is it with the North Shore and these statues? I mostly come here for the off-leash doggy beach, which is big and features lots of logs and sandy spots where you can lounge while your dog tires itself out. For this, it's best to park behind Park Royal and walk down the trail; the restrictions on actually parking at Ambleside and being able to walk to the dog beach are too Byzantine. read more

Almost 4 stars. Just a bit short compared to others in Vancouver but for West Van, it is nice enough. Not my usual habit of pulling here unless looking for parking on side streets here. Not overly crowded or rollerbladers or cyclists. Small sanded beach off to the left. Found more of an adult crowd but being a weekday, who knows if kids come out on weekends. Didn't notice any public washrooms. But what a view of Lions Gate and the water, as my pic deftly shows ;) read more

The dogs that visit this dog park are almost always friendly. That makes for a relaxing visit with our dog running and playing with the other dogs. Our chow loves swimming (yes, not a chow thing), and the last time we visited it was a high tide so the water was very close, making it an easy entrance. During low tide, we find that the water is too far away (over many rocks), so the swim is not as enticing. For other dogs though, the rocks are no problem. Especially on summer weekends, parking can be a problem at Ambleside (http://www.pansy-paws.com/dogwalks/ambleside-park/), so we leave our car over at the Park Royal south parkade and walk in towards the eastern end of the dog park. That removes a major hassle factor. The views of the ocean and Stanley Park are always a delight. read more

Another reminder why I live in this place called Vancouver. Stellar views of the downtown skyline and stanley park. Look at the people around you. You won't find a grumpy person. What a gorgeous park. I'm not from West Vancouver and I rarely cross the bridge except occasionally for work, so I had never been here before this weekend - I'm sure glad I discovered it though, as my boyfriend and I (and Indy our boxer puppy) had a wonderful time here. The weather was not great to say the least - gray and rainy, but even that couldn't take away from the loveliness of the park. It's right on the water and you get a spectacular view of the Lions Gate bridge descending into Stanley Park and the water in between. There are a lot of areas in the park that are not dog-friendly/dog-off leash, but there is also a lovely offleash walkabout along the water that is unmatched anywhere else in Vancouver that I know of. It's great to walk along the path with your pup and meet so many other people with wonderful doggies for him to play with as well! All the dog owners we met were very friendly, and the puppy had a wonderful time with them all. Next time the weather is better, we'll be back! read more

I like this place as a thinking spot. But there's also many activities here as well. The path along the beach is a great place to stroll and just be lost in the setting. Watch the clouds move past and tide roll in... There's many logs to sit on and catch a daydream. For the more active type, you might prefer to run, play golf, take your dog for a walk, let the kids play on the playground, eat some ice cream... Definitely a lot of families enjoy coming here. But I find that it's a big space, and I can usually find time to sit back and enjoy the view. read more

Grew up here so my review might be biased but this place is perfect -- get a nice 5K run in, checkout the dogs living it up at the dog beach, play some golf at Par 3, grab a green juice or latte at the nearby juice bars or cafes... This place is perfect. And if you want to stroll at night, it's perfectly safe to do so here. I've gone on tons of late to midnight runs on the seawall. read more

My husband is an avid Chrismasaholic! Me, I was a wee humbug this year because of construction going on in my house and not being able to decorated. Oh I digress. As part of his Christmasaholic trips we went to see the Christmas trees and I was quietly impressed. The different themes were great and the photos I was able to take were beautiful. Since it was the dark I wasn't able to see much of the area but what I did see was so serene and peaceful that it put some Christmas back in my step. I will definitely be back next year to see the new trees. Just have to make sure my Puck doesn't decide he wants to "own" all of them by peeing on them. read more

First, my review would be a five star but a lot of people do not poop scoop here. Particularly near the west side of the beach. I believe that this would be less of an issue if the beach had bags offered on posts like other dog parks. However, the view is beautiful!! The park on the beach offers something for all dogs. If your pup likes to swim the beach is there, a lot of sticks to fetch, a large grass field for ball tossing. Trees for shade and there are a lot of dogs off all kind to brighten your day and socialize with your dog. If you love dogs but can't own one then a stroll through here will raise your spirits. I take my little dog there and he loves it. It is extremely safe for families and single women to go to alone. But, I have never been there at night. There is a lot of free parking, it is handicap accessible, it is very child friendly, a cute idea for a date to walk your dogs. Not to mention you can grab a bite after in West Vancouver where there a lot of good places to eat. read more

Arguably the best place to socialize your dog in West Vancouver. I have never been to the designated off-leash area and not encountered more than a few furry friends for puppy play-time. Friendly dogs of all shapes and sizes, running, swimming, digging, fetching... Most of the dogs are well socialized, and the ones that have issues are usually kept on leash. I wish I could say the same for the people... Being a Doberman owner, most small dog owners pick up their dogs as we approach. That's doggy racism. When I have children, I am going to pick them up and give you dirty looks every time I pass you and your small dog on the street and see how that makes you feel. read more

I bring my dog here almost everyday. She loves the big open fields and the beach area. Best part is that it's offleash! Worse part is that the no biking or roller blading signs need to be replaced and visible. I came here at least once a year as a short stop over when my best friend and I go across the border for shows. F***** sea lions!!!!!! Beautiful park here! The view of Vancouver is simply amazing here! I love fishing/crabbing at this locations mainly for the scenic very on a clear sunny day! There's a large wooden dock were many people trap crab and a few fish off of. I would watch were I sit on this dock though cause all the lurking birds around crappy everywhere. Not a bad spot for crabbing, but not the best for fishing. Oh getting back to those darn sea lions.. they are thieves!! They steal your crab bait and sometimes your fish if you don't reel them in fast enough. Grrrrr nemesis! read more

My favourite park and doggy watching place, this dog park and human park combined offers the warmest summer walks and the most though provoking winter and fall excursions one can take. The vast ocean is dotted with sail boats, kayaks, cruise ships and other marine vessels, as seagulls soar over your head and children play and run around in the background. If you're into Pitch and Putt, the Lawn Bowling Club offers an exciting selection of activities and events. For joggers, the long sea walk either starts or ends here. The Lionsgate is a large and beautiful orange structure that you can look at while you're breathing in the sweet stuff. read more

This is the most beautiful and clean and big off leash area's for dogs! We traveled to Vancouver with our dogs, so we needed a nice 'dog park' to let the pooches run free for a bit. The views of downtown, Lions Gate Bridge, and Stanley park were gorgeous. And to top it off, the day was beautiful and sunny. This place has fields of green grass, woods, and even a beach. We were happy and the dogs were happier prancing along the paths and playing with the tons of other dogs here. read more

Ambleside Park is a litle park in West Vancouver. There is a sandy beach with really coarse sand, so I wouldn't run around it with my bare feet. There is a large wide wooden dock that was constructed in the late 80's. The dock is popular with fisherman and crabbers. Unfortunately, the dock is very dirty with tons of bird droppings and the City of West Vancouver should spend some time cleaning it at least once a week or more. This is a nice park to spend some time after or before shopping at Park Royal Shopping Centre. read more

We stumbled upon it by accident when we were too early for check-in at our hotel. As we drive past we were attracted to the artwork displayed on easels so we found a place to park. As we walked left towards the bridge we stopped to watch young people on skateboards and others play volley board or just resting on the beach. I walked to the edge of a pier to get a photo of the totem pole. We thought the park ended with the beach until we turned and started walking to the right. There was the loveliest and most interesting playground I have ever seen. There was a unique sprinkler for kids and climbing and swinging activities that children of all ages were enjoying. Then I saw a huge cruise ship passing and when I went closer to the other side of the park I saw tops of white tents in the distance. We got in the car and drove to see what they were. There was a lovely festival there last night. Stalls with interesting and beautiful jewelry as well as pottery and some artwork were all lined up side by side. There were also food kiosks and we chuckled when we saw the Asian man selling Greek food. (Our family has both cultures so we were amused.) The Argyle Village Garden was down an alley and I'm glad we didn't miss it. We chatted with a couple from Scotland and we took photos for each other. In the background there was a stage with live music playing. Our introduction to Vancouver was an evening in this park and we enjoyed our unexpected walk tremendously.
