I absolutely hate that they have the tickets and concessions together and only two people max working the registers. It slows the lines down so much. I get they want to make money off concessions, but this system of only taking paper tickets is archaic. If I buy my ticket online, I want to be able to scan and enter the theater, otherwise what's the point of purchasing ahead of time? Took my daughter to see a movie tonight and when we walked in the door at 8:04 (previews began at 8pm), the line was all the way out the door. We got in the theater at 8:42. read more

A good place in the country to watch a movie. The screens aren't super big but you know what the price is right and I've seen quite a few movies here and it's never too packed. The people are always nice. Workers are always nice. It's a huge parking lot so for what it is I think it's just fine. If the demand was there, it would be nice to have an IMAX theater. Sure, could there be maybe sometime will there be? I don't know, but in the meantime, I've seen movies here. I've taken family. I've always had a nice time. It's a good safe place to enjoy the tradition of watching movies on the big screen. read more

On Thanksgiving Day went to go see the new Disney movie. The movie was supposed to start at 7:45. At 8:00 (while still watching trailers) we decided we wanted more popcorn. As they were scooping popcorn in the trash they said the concession stand was closed. Movie had not even started yet. During the movie the entire theater realized we had no HEAT!!! It was 18 degrees outside. After the movie the kid said he forgot to tell us the heat was broke in the one theater. WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN! read more

This theater was built when I was just a kid and it looks like it hasn't had an ounce of money poured back into it since then. I went to a movie while I was visiting family and friends and was honestly astonished by how far it had degraded. The ticket price was about average that I would pay in the city and the concessions even pricier. I opted out on getting anything because the prices were just to ridiculous to even justify spending the money. With some price adjustments to the concessions, I am sure they would see more people grabbing some popcorn and a soda with their movie tickets because it's always so hard to resist if the prices are reasonable! While they play the latest movies, the decor is outdated and showing obvious wear and tear. The bathrooms are absolutely filthy. Large chunks are chipping off from the counters from the years of water damage. Paint would dry faster than the air driers would dry my hands. And the seats are just small and uncomfortable. Overall the prices and drab, outdated interior make for an unpleasant visit. I can see why people travel a little further for a better movie experience. Pouring a little bit of money for some repairs and to renovate would go a long way to bring the community back to the theater. read more

Girlfriend and I decided to catch a quick movie and dinner one night, since this theater is closest to our house we went here. This theater is very run down. The seats in the theater we were in were stained, and I don't want to know by what, the smell was of must and mold, seats are uncomfortable and a tight fit. I've gone here many times the movies are good the candy and popcorn are tasty and the soda is delicious. One major problem though is the chairs are kinda uncomfortable and you really feel it after a while, but usually, the movie is worth it. read more

This movie theater has gone down hill and fast. Needs major renovation and clean up. I would not recommend - go to the downtown theater.

Honestly I read the comments and thought it wouldn't be that great. But being there for the first time, it wasn't that bad. The people at the counter were helpful and kind. While there's room for improvement, it's helpful to remember that this theater is located and providing service to a small town community. It's not realistic to expect the top-of-the-line ambiance. Travel to Chicago or New York and pay accordingly if that's your preference. Sauk Valley Cinemas provides first run movies at bargain prices in a convenient location. Let's hope it remains economically viable into the future or we could be driving to Clinton or the Quad Cities. read more

My boyfriend and I are really mad about what happened last night. We had plans to see an 8:00 PM movie, and went to dinner before. We know there is about 25 minutes of previews so we weren't in any rush. We got to the Theater at 8:08 and all the front doors were locked and they would not let us in. We wasted a trip and didn't even get to see a movie... So stupid that they wouldn't let us in even tho the movie hadn't even started yet... There is no need to sit and watch 25 minutes of previews, we will find somewhere else to watch movies from now on. read more

Went to see the 7:10 showing of Logan and got there about 6:50. The line for tickets was to the outside door(about 30 people). After standing there for 5 minutes the announcement was made that Beauty and The Beast was sold out so some people left. After a while I realized what was taking so long with each person at the register, they were pushing for people to sign up for their rewards cards. Why you would do that with a line out the fort I have no idea. At 7:15 with the line down to about 10 people they finally opened a 3rd ticket register. read more

When this place was built in 1997, it was great; today, it's pretty much the same as it was then, only dirtier. They do show all the current movies but the owners really need to invest in some remodeling and cleanup, especially the bathrooms. I think they charge way too much for everything, especially refreshments, and their staff is usually less than friendly. I much prefer the other theater in town and I know of others who travel out of town to see a movie rather than give Sauk Valley 8 their business. read more

I've been here a few times. There movie selection is usually good and the staff is OK (if not understaffed at times). However, the theater is usually a little on the unclean side. Between shows, people need to do a better job of cleaning out the theaters. The bathrooms are usually filthy. I'd much rather go to the Midway,but they aren't open year-round, so Sauk Valley Cinemas it is! read more

Supposedly they close at 8 now? Even though their hrs say 11am-11pm on google and they don't have hrs posted on amc.com. Either way I was pretty annoyed that I couldn't purchase tickets for a later showing, even though the employees were there, and customers we're clearly watching movies. read more

The women's bathrooms are dirty and in need of repair! The counter is warped and falling apart, the hand dryers emit very little heat, and the hand towel dispenser has no towels in it. Several sinks have no faucets! The floor is dirty and grimy. In addition, the pre-show, before the actual trailers begin, had only audio, no video on the screen. The young man I spoke to said they are having trouble with a couple of screens, or projectors, whatever. I am visiting from Wisconsin and took my mom out for an afternoon movie, and was disappointed at the lack of cleanliness in this theater. Who is managing this place?! read more

This place should be closed. It was dirty, and smelly. Also they should be ashamed of themselves for charging so much at the Concession Stand! I mean really $4.15 for a box of stale candy?! We didn't even buy the popcorn, we could smell old butter, and it was not looking fresh at all! Don't even ask about the broken down bathrooms, I mean when a person has to look at more than three stalls for paper/ and non-broken seats, it is time to end the business. The staff was not doing anything, they were not busy, and there was no excuse to not be cleaning the place. Oh wonder people sneak in things to eat, it is safer not to mention cheaper. Just get a self serve area, pop machine, and bags of popcorn, they don't make a person sick, and are a lot fresher!!! Management needs to go!!! Clean it up, make it reasonable for families to actually see a film and enjoy the experience. Or just CLOSE IT DOWN! read more
