I come here when I'm back in the area visiting family. I'm old enough that I remember when this theater was first put in. This is an older theater that has been renovated a couple times in its history. It has been brought up to the current AMC standard which means large reclining chairs and a small bar inside. It is still a modest sized theater relative to what you would find in larger cities, but overall I think this does a good job. Prices are what you would expect these days, but that is pretty much theater standard rather than something unique to this location. I would recommend buying tickets ahead of time since there is assigned seating. It makes a huge difference to be in the center seats all together rather than be on the sides or too far forward. You can also order your food ahead of time so it is ready to go when you arrive. I thought that was a really nice feature. I have never been to a theater where the usher were so friendly. They registered me for the movie club. The seats were reclined. Movie was funny. It was a great experience. Plus reasonable priced. read more

We went to a movie this afternoon and unfortunately, this theater is not what it used to be used to be. They were completely out of Coke on one side and the machine wasn't working at all on the other side. We were told to get our soda at the bar--the manager didn't look at us or say a word, just grabbed our cup and handed it back after filling--extremely rude. The recliner seats are still great and we love that, but the place wasn't extremely clean, and we got hot during the movie (usually it's quite cool). As we were leaving, we asked the usher if there were any after-credits and he loudly said, "NO!." A little customer service goes a long way, and this place no longer has it. read more

This is my favorite movie theater in southern Illinois. I love the fact that I can choose my seats why? Choosing my seats means I don't have rush and beat the crowd to get a good place to sit. Also I can always pick the right view for me. Prices are pretty fair you get a very comfy chair that reclines. My husband and I go on Tuesdays when is cheaper plus we get special discounts when we use our AMC premier stub card. The times that we've gone it's been very clean and the temp FOR ME it's perfect but I do see people take their blankets with them. Also the staff always seem to have a smile on their face. read more

AMC University Place 8 - Love the seats! - Cinema Near Me - Carbondale, Illinois

Let's start with they have redone the seats that was nice. Now to why I put it at a two star... The first is this is a family place where I use to take my kids but no more. They are serving alcohol there now. I'm not one to tell you, you cannot drink but I don't think that the cinema is the place for it. Then I get in to the place and no sign on the front doors but on the inside doors that you cannot carry in there. So I had to walk all the way back to the car to lock up my gun. I understand they have the right to say you cannot carry but it would be nice to put it on the outside doors. Then I have never had to choice my seats before I go into the movie. I'm who is to say I may not like that spot and want to move. I was waiting for them to say please no laughing durn the movie because clapping is disruptive. read more

Love this place for movie going. Great comfy recliners in pairs. You can even bring a blanket throw. I appreciate that I can choose where to sit when I purchase tickets online. The alcohol doesn't bother me. I've never seen anyone buy it. Might be due to the movies I see. Refunds are easy right up to showtime. AMC Stubs has decent rewards. read more

I bought tickets for a 10pm showing of the Nun. We drove 20 miles to see the movie. When we bought the tickets we were the only 2 with chosen seats for that movie. When we arrived we were told there wasn't a 10pm showing. It was at 10:40. They even accused us of buying tickets for a 10pm showing at a different theater. I was not happy about this as the staff had tried to insinuate I was the idiot who chose a time at a different theater and I wasn't happy about the 40 minute wait to wait for the 10:40 showing. This being said while other customers chimed in that they too saw the 10pm movie time and then it was gone from the movie times. While sitting in the theater waiting for the previews to start I noticed the time was getting strangely close to 10:40 without anything on the screen. At 10:47 I made my way up front and asked what was wrong with this theater for its timing issues. I explained everything I'd been through with them that evening and even another customer in line chimed in that there was a 10pm showing and they moved it. He did give me 3 movie passes to compensate me (which didn't do anything for the 20 mile drive we made to get to the theater? Finally at 11pm the movie started. Complete ridiculousness. I usually am very happy with my experience at this theater, but this time ...not so much!!! The smell in the viewing area smelled like a boys' locker-room and the temp was uncomfortably hot and humid. Second time this summer I have been to this cinema and been disappointed. It was nice and cool in the lobby .......BUT, the Theater we were in was hot, very humid to the point of being difficult to breath!! I requested let them know how hot and uncomfortable it was they said they would tell management. It did cool down but still very humid and honestly just barely. I plan on watching movies, at least for the rest of the summer, in my own home or another cinema!!! read more

Really terrible movie experience. You have to choose your seats when you buy tickets. Won't go till they change it, stupid.

Three of us went to the movie on Sunday Eve to watch Death Wish starring Bruce Willis. Usually one of the three of us can be slightly unhappy at something. We all were so pleased with the seats, friendliness of the staff as well as the movie we watched!!! Not a fan of the bar, but until it is noted to be a problem, I just ignore it. Love, love, love the seats & the roominess of the arrangement!! Better still, you get to pick your seats, fantastic idea!!!!! They definitely have our business!!! On the other side of the spectrum, they need to be a little more tidy, maybe also include some wipes to use on the area where you lay your head on the recliner. read more

I love this theater. The staff are Great!! Always helpful and knowledgeable, Concessions are hot and fresh. I love the soda selection. The refillable bucket is a great value. And the A List is so much fun. The reclining seats are comfortable and make every seat a great seat. read more

I love how they've redone it! I love that I can reserve specific seats for a Sat night show, so we aren't stuck in the first row. Plus we are going for our anniversary and I want to make sure we have seats together. Speaking of seats, they are big comfy seats! It's excellent now! Highly recommend this movie theatre. read more

I prefer the seating but every time I go I have to take blankets b/c it is so UNNECESSARILY cold in there. I hurt by the time the movie gets out from being so cold, summer and winter!!!!! read more

This theater is lousy. One of the soda machines is broken so everyone is backed up in one line. The machine that is working is so full of spilled ice you can barely get your cup in it. The theater is filthy, obviously no effort was made to clean the theater between shows. The floor is full of popcorn and trash, as well as popcorn on the seats. I expect more for $12 a ticket. read more
