Recently, however, Delta Air Lines started offering direct flights to Hilton Head Island Airport (HHH), which has been a major convenience and a terrific way to save time reaching our destination. Currently, the airport is quite small, but they are already expanding it to better accommodate travelers. The only issues we encountered during our flights were related to the in-flight amenities. The plane we flew on did not have active Wi-Fi, and the electric outlets were not functioning on either leg of our trip--both going to and returning from LGA. Interestingly, it was the same aircraft both times, as our tray tables and power outlets were inoperative. For wellbeing reasons, I decided to upgrade to first class because my partner preferred sitting closer to the front of the plane, hoping for a smoother, less bumpy flight. Unfortunately, the overall experience was frustrating due to these inconveniences. However, I reached out to Delta's customer care about the issues we faced. They responded promptly and generously compensated us with a considerable number of miles on my SkyMiles account. I found their response to be commendable and appreciated their effort to make amends.

Prices were sufficiently reasonable that we went first class, though first class on an Embraer regional jet is somewhat oxymoronic, it's about the same as extra space seating on a standard jet (let's say a 737 for example). First class "breakfast" on this 2 hour and 10 minute flight consisted of Cheez-Its and a small package of two biscuit cookies. In other words, no breakfast. One might hope for a hermetically sealed muffin or something more substantial with a first class seat, but let's keep expectations in check! That said, we got there on-time and without issue, so that's a solid performance for this vacation, for any airline.

Best part was the adventure of exploring the island and having the beach to a small crowd- felt like our own private beach! There was a Scoopasaurus ice cream place we enjoyed on the way back to the marina. Wear your bathing suit- the only restrooms are at the marina. Highly recommended!

First, the ferry staff were wonderful. The captain and mate were both friendly, professional, and knowledgeable, and they truly made the boat ride enjoyable. However, the website information regarding ferry times was very confusing. Based on the schedule posted online, we believed we would have from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on the island, as it advertised: 9AM to 4PM 11AM to 6PM 1PM to 8PM *Seasonally 7 Hour Round Trip Unfortunately, we later learned we actually needed to be back at the dock by 7:15 p.m. This significantly reduced the amount of time we expected to have on the island. Several other guests on our boat also seemed confused about connections and return times, so clearer communication on the website would be very helpful. The most disappointing part of the trip was the golf cart rental. Our cart only traveled around 12 mph, making it difficult to fully explore the island within the limited time available. We were constantly being passed by other carts all day long, and the slow speed prevented us from seeing as much as we had planned. I would strongly encourage the golf cart company to better inspect, maintain, and update their carts so visitors can fully enjoy the island experience. Daufuskie itself is beautiful, and the ferry crew provided excellent customer service, but clearer scheduling information and better-maintained golf carts would greatly improve the overall experience.

I ignored the Surfwatch email on Preferred Owner check-in as another marketing ploy, but was given the notice at guard date; still skeptical, my experience was pleasant. Owners of multiple weeks at Surfwatch are taken to an agent in a private area, and are quickly checked in.... Yes, there is a mention of the obnoxious sales presentation, and my decline is readily accepted. Good news is that at 2:00 check in, Our villa is ready and we are presented with keys. This is a Great Service, and we hope that it continues. As usual, Surfwatch has been updates; fresh paint, new furniture, coffee pot, and other. In our view, we find value in our maintenance fees.... Surfwatch is well-managed property. Our practice is to lunch at Hudson's on arrival day; travel tip - skip the on-water deck and enjoy the views and lunch from A/C tables at windows. Surfwatch is home for the next two weeks; we have been visiting HHI for 60 years, and are HHI Marriott Vacation Club members for 20+ years - Our membership has resulted in Marriott exchanges to nearly all US Marriott Vacation Clubs including Hawaii. We like the mid-island location, and while we also own two weeks at Grand Ocean, we do enjoy Both properties. An advantage of autumn and spring ownership (especially autumn) is the mostly child free environment, and the many, many opportunities to converse with fellow senior citizens. My informal poll has yet to discover a discontented Marriott Vacation Club member. We agree owner fees are high, but bring good value.
