Here's something to keep in mind. I purchased an itinerary from Delta originating in the US and…read moreconnecting at Amsterdam on Transavia to Lisbon. But because Transavia is not a SkyTeam carrier, I was denied access to the KLM Crown Lounge. This, even though I am a Diamond Medallion (Delta's top tier elite), I'm flying Delta One (upgraded through certificates) and I have a SkyClub membership. So do not expect access to a lounge if you're on Transavia. So to solve this little dilemma, I reached out to Delta and did what's called a "Same Day Change" and switched over to the KLM direct flight. Now I'm sitting in the KLM Crown Lounge with a glass of wine, some snacks and a comfy seat with power and wifi. [Review 16552 overall - 70 in Netherlands - 62 of 2022.]

These damages were observed under real conditions of use, particularly during my return flight on January 2, when the suitcase could no longer be properly closed or secured. Despite repeated exchanges and clear, factual evidence, the Baggage Claims Department maintained that the luggage was "functional." Describing as functional a suitcase that cannot be secured, whose zipper is blocked, and which exposes its contents to a real risk of opening or theft reflects an assessment disconnected from the actual experience of a passenger. My request was nevertheless limited, reasonable, and proportionate: coverage of the zipper repair costs, based on a quote or invoice, without requesting either a replacement or a full refund. This request was rejected, without any independent assessment or alternative solution being offered. Furthermore, I wish to clarify to other customers that Transavia's response provided to me in a private message was strictly limited to the following: "On my end, within customer service, I am unfortunately not in a position to take this matter any further." In other words, no solution, no intervention, and no concrete progress was proposed following this private exchange. The public response therefore gives the impression of active handling, whereas in reality no operational follow-up was provided on the case, despite a simple and proportionate request. In light of this rigid handling, the poor customer experience that resulted, and the many similar reports from other passengers, I simply wish future customers to have complete and accurate information. As such, I strongly advise against traveling with this airline in the event of a baggage issue, given the evident lack of consideration for the customer.

Delta Air Lines - Over the wing on a Delta's Airbus 330 AMS-ATL

My fifth time catching a Delta flight out of Amsterdam. Two to Boston, one each to Detroit and JFK…read more Now I'm flying to the mothership, Atlanta. And unlike the first four times, I'm no longer a Diamond Medallion after a job change and significant downturn in my personal flying travel. This is how most passengers fly. My train to Schiphol was delayed so I didn't have time to hit up a lounge and I didn't have time to pick up anything along the way to the gate. It was a fast walk from the train platform, a priority queue at the ticket counter to check my bag (a ten day trip that was too big for a carryon plus two bottles of French wine), a rush through security and then more fast walking through terminals to the gate. I arrived in time to watch the Delta One cabin board. Fifteen minutes later, everyone was on the aircraft and the doors closed. It was organized chaos as too many passengers standing in the way ("gate lice") but the ground services team doing their best to keep an aisle clear. On board my Airbus 330, we pushed back on time, spent some time on the deicing pad, and then we were off on one of the closer-in runways (not the famous Polderbaan that seems halfway to London). On board service in the cheap seats was good from the flight attendants. We had drink services, lunch (I chose a decent cheese ravioli over a chicken curry hoping to avoid spilling it) and a light dinner (a cheese toastie). The wifi worked well, the power outlets worked well and while I didn't manage to sleep, I did get a doze in between movies on this ten hour flight. Improvements? Not much that's within the airline's control. The terminal could be roomier. The passengers could sit until it's time to board. Europe could be closer. Flights could be cheaper, I suppose. This budget airline *will* nickel and dime you to death if you don't pay attention. The bag fee…read morepolicy is convoluted and weird. There are distinctions between a "carry on" and "hand luggage" that dictate the charge for the bag that you bring on the plane. In other words, a regular carry-on bag may be rejected at the gate and force you to check it at additional expense plus a fee for the inconvenience of inconveniencing you. Sure, ticket prices are low so a weekend haunt to here or there with a small backpack (or similar) is a great deal. Once you start having to bring more than clean underwear and your toothbrush, things get dicey. The line to check a bag was long and tedious but paying online prior to arrival at the airport results in a significant discount (50%) and is worth the effort. Do not expect anyone at the departure counter to be happy to see you. Should you want to choose your seat rather than leaving your fate up to an algorithm that is apathetic to your constitution or general ability to tolerate being sandwiched between strangers, the cost will vary. The back of the plane is cheapest. The closer you get to the cockpit, the more it will cost. I mean, you may get lucky and get assigned a seat in the front of the plane. It's more likely that you'll get assigned the toilet, though. We paid around six euros each to choose a window seat in the back. The front row was around twenty euros each. That's each way. So, in some cases, the seat assignment cost and baggage fees could be more than the actual fare. Consider these points when choosing the airline. The seat pitch is only thirty inches so anyone taller than a hobbit is going to need to be a yoga master to be comfortable. While we were in line to check bags, multiple people were turned away from their flight to Barcelona. It was canceled. No reason was given. Apparently, cancellations are frequent and nobody at the airline seems concerned about the impact that such things have on the lives of their customers. If your travel plans are inflexible, I'd suggest booking on another airline. You'll pay for *everything*. There's no free beverage or tiny bag of pretzels. But, there is a menu allowing for purchase (at some hefty markups) of drinks and snacks. Cash and cards are accepted for that can of soda at almost three euros. Just stop at one of the airport shops and buy your own snacks.

We did have to wander around quite a bit to find the bar that contained liquor, but we were persistent! Airport was clean and all employees we encountered were pleasant. We waited about an hour and a half in a very hot line to clear immigration. None of the self-service kiosks were open. When the Schengen line was totally clear, I hoped they would start taking people from our line; no such luck. The gentleman who helped us was nice, but it took way too long to get to him. It is very convenient that the train station is right there in the airport, though I wish the platform system was made a bit more clear no the kiosks when buying tickets. For those of us who don't have this type of transit in our home cities (Los Angeles), it made transportation tough. In fact, we got on the wrong train and what should have been a 15 minute ride from Schiphol to Centraal became an hour-long detour in the broiling heat.

I was traveling with my family, including my 22-month-old son and another young child. We waited in line for well over two hours, and by the time we got through, we were literally running to our gate and barely made our flight. The stress was overwhelming. What made the experience even worse was the lack of air conditioning. The terminal was extremely hot, my toddler was exhausted, crying, and struggling in the heat, yet there was no assistance to be found. When we tried to ask for help, the staff we encountered were rude and showed very little empathy. I understand that airports can be busy, but families traveling with small children should not have to endure hours in line without support, especially in uncomfortable conditions. This was by far the most stressful airport experience I've ever had, and because of it, I will avoid connecting through Amsterdam in the future. I sincerely hope Schiphol takes these concerns seriously and improves the experience for families and other travelers.
