Wow the new 737s are clean, spacious, offer ample storage for carry-ons, have in seat USB and electric as well as a neat pop out shelf for your phone/tablet to use as a TV screen for free movies and live TV. Flight attendants were great, no food, coffee & soda for drinks, pretzels for a snack. Appreciate while electronics have received a major upgrade I sure miss real food and drinks. The next plane, an older Airbus, forced gate check for carry ons, no in seat entertainment or charging and while reliable, just not top notch travel accommodations. But we got there safely and on time, coming and going. That's what really counts. read more

On my way back home, I first stopped at the American Airlines counter to check my bag. Since I don't have status on AA (like I do on United) - I had to pay a $25.00 fee to check my bag. The kiosks don't seem to work properly. I was going to attempt to scan my digital boarding pass - since the kiosk offers that as an option, but the AA agent advised that it doesn't work and they would manually check me in. I then dropped my suitcase off at the TSA station and went on my way. Later, when it was time to board my flight home - they began the "boarding" process. Once again I use that term loosely - as I did in my review of American Airlines at Reagan National Airport. When they let you past the gate agent to "board," - you are not actually "boarding." You then get to stand in line (again) - in a hallway waiting for whomever to deem that it is actually time to board, and then they come up and open the doors and let you outside to begin the actual "boarding" process. UPDATE: The follow up by customer care earned an additional two stars. Although I would have preferred a trip that went as scheduled and got me to my destination and clients on time, there was an effort made by customer care to compensate me through points on my account. Therefore, I am adding two stars. That does not change the actual experience of my flight day. Well, they've done it again. I'm having a difficult time justifying flying out of my favorite airport SWF, Stewart airport in Newburgh New York. American Airlines has left me stranded again. Important business meeting and function for a client in Philadelphia. Should be simple to get there from Stewart since all flights go through Philly or Detroit. Why did I think this flight was going to be uneventful? Arrived before the recommended time: company driver drop me off right in front of the airport, just as I walked through the revolving doors, I received back to back text messages from American telling me my flight was delayed, my flight was delayed again, my flight was delayed again, and my flight was canceled all within one minute. So I was stranded. The staff levels at Stewart are always skeleton especially in the morning. Nice as they are, they could not manage the complaints. I was made to wait another two hours before a "taxi " was to take me to Albany so that I could salvage what was left of my Businesstrip. The taxi. Van was very late, thenpacked to the gills with other passengers who couldn't decide where to sit and it reeked of cigarette smoke. As if we weren't late enough, the driver had to stop for gas along the way leaving me just enough time to run to my gate. Another disaster. Of the last 10 trips I've taken this year with American, only to have gone well. Most of the time it seems to be mechanical failure. This was no different. Mechanical trouble in Philadelphia resulted in my missing important business functions. read more

American Airlines located at Westchester County Airport close to White Plains NY. Very convenient if you live in the Westchester area and don't mind an extra stop on your journey. Saves a lot of time and is much better than having to start your journey at JFK. My only complaint with AA here was that when checking in, the counter attendant didn't want to honor my British Airways OneWorld Silver/Sapphire card with reciprocal baggage allowance, and wanted to charge me $25.00 for my luggage. Fortunately I had printed out the OneWorld benefits page and the attendant reluctantly waived the fee. read more

My son booked his ticket home for Christmas himself on American Airlines through my Travelocity account.  He didn't know he had to change the name in the booking.  He got to the airport.  American refused to change the name because it was booked through Travelocity.  They sold him a ticket for a flight 14 hours later and charged him a surcharge for buying the ticket at the airport.  Then, when the plane landed in Charlotte (on route to Grand Rapids) it sat on the tarmac after landing just long enough so that he missed his connecting flight, the last flight of the evening.  The flight attendants made absolutely no attempt to aid him, none.  They rebooked him for the next morning, leaving him stranded in the airport.  He asked for a hotel or meals but they said it wasn't their fault.  They gave him nothing.  I remember the days when the airlines actually treated people with respect.  But really, with all the lip service about being safe with covid, stranding a kid coming home from college in an airport for 14 hours on one end and then over night in the connection seems egregiously dangerous and downright cruel.  American Airlines, the worst airline there is.  They should be ashamed.  Oh, and ...Merry Christmas. PS I waited 2 1/2 hours for American to call me back. By then I had to book my son into a hotel myself. I told the customer service agent what happened and she hung up on me!! She literally hung up on me. This airline needs an overhaul, a good dose of humanity and a return to professionalism. They hold our health in their hands right now and they are not acting responsibly. Why aren't they being called out for their lack of concern for their clients? read more

American Airlines is the absolute worst. It took 3 days of pointless calls and four hours on "call-back" calls to alter a flight from White Plains to Charlotte to be White Plains to Greensboro. After the third try we finally the got the flight but were told it was about an extra $28 and change, not a problem. Maria came off great but then Grandma calls and says her card was charged $78!!!! What is this extra charge? Here we go with more calls to figure this out! When listening to the voice recording, it says there " may be" an additional charge for blah blah blah. HOWEVER!!!! MARIA NEVER SAID ANY OTHER CHARGE APPLIED TO US! It is disgusting that this company just took money without our knowledge AND from people who do not have that extra funding! They issued a trip credit that expires in a year, NO ONE WANTS TO GO ANYWHERE ON AA OR AROUND THESE TIMES! Hence why our grandparents moved back up here to begin with! Oh wait, they also issued the credit to the friend traveling and not the person who paid for the overall ticket and was scammed by the extra charge! This makes no sense! If your going to charge someone an amount, you generally tell them the amount. MARIA should pay that extra $50 since she did not tell us about any extra charges. A credit is not worth it and the rudeness we dealt with this entire situation would not help us come back to American Airlines. Ever! read more

The plane ride over all was good but the social distance was awful. Everybody was cramped up on top of each other. They would not provide no space in between customers. You also did not have the option to purchase a meal or a drink of choice. Very disappointed. read more

My sister was getting married in Tennesee on a Saturday at 5pm. My flight was leaving from HPN at 6am. If everything went to plan I wouldve had enough time to get there, shower, get dressed and head to the wedding with plenty of time to spare. Unfortunately things did NOT go as planned. Due to technical issues my flight was cancelled, (I prefer it when I fly to be in a plane that is technical issue-free) and I was devistated, I thought I was going to miss the wedding, luckily for me God sent an angel to intervene, her name was Sasha. She worked her magic, and booked a flight for me with a different airline and I kid you not, was literally able to sit in my seat at the wedding just as the ceremony began. read more

This was the worst trip ever!! The flight should have taken us 2 1/2 hours and ended up taking over 10 hours to reach our destination!!!! We were held on the plane and when we asked the stewardess about what we could do because we were missing our flight, she snootily said that she had no answers!!!! She told us to talk to the agent at our stop, but the agent was not very helpful . We were given an extra stop with our small kids, double the wait in the airport and dragged our luggage which we had as carry on!! The kids were crying, restless and to top it off, we missed the first day of our family reunion!!! I will never fly American again!!! Icing on the cake is that on our return flight we almost missed our connecting flight again!!! We were taken to our flight by a cobys and left in it to wait for the crew who were getting off another flight!!! The driver left us there alone for over thirty minutes and our son had to use the bathroom so badly that he wet on himself!!! If it wasn't for the kind passengers who helped me take the bags off the bus because my husband ran to the plane so my son wouldn't be wet all over!!!! My husband had to bang on the door to get the drivers attention so that he would come back to the bus to open the door!!! I am furious!!! This is not American!!! I am sure that if I flew Air China this would not happen!! I think that I deserve some type of compensation for this nightmarish trip!!! read more

DO NOT USE AMERICAN AIRLINES! They do not deserve a single star. I was booked on a flight on 4-6-17 at 1630, this flight was cancelled without my knowledge, I received no notification email, phone call, or otherwise. I found out it was cancelled by chance, called to re-book and was scheduled on an indirect flight on the morning of 4-7-17. That flight was then cancelled. I called back to re-book for a second time only to be told that there were no available flights from any airport in the area until the 0700 flight departing 4-9-17, I had no choice but to agree as I must travel. I went to check in for my flight on 4-9-16 at 0700 only to find out that I have been bumped to the 1630 flight. When I called to inquire about the unauthorized bump I was told that there was nothing they could do and I was required to take the 1630 flight on 4-9-17. My trip has now been shortened by 4 days and I payed over five hundred dollars to leave on 4-6-17. I am requesting a full refund for my ticket or a voucher for the equivalent value, but was told I would not receive it do to my necessary use of the ticket. I am livid at the mistreatment and disrespect of my time and money and the inability of the airline to get me to my destination. The ramifications of my absence are great. I am a frequent traveler and after this ordeal American will no longer be an airline I will choose to use. read more
